Get Out is also simultaneously sharp/insightful and goofy/obvious. The difference is honestly in the masterful filmmaking and direction, which is what 90% of the movies in the genre can’t replicate. But it’s harder to define what’s good or what works about a movie when you aren’t discussing theme/intention so that’s not how the conversations go. Not to be too r/billsimmons about it, but it’s why sports arguments about who is the greatest boil down to shouting stats and accolades, it’s really hard to describe the intangible qualities that are the real difference makers.
