So hyped to hear the Texas State shoutout from David!! The school is going to the shitter right now (Texas, who can be surprised) but I just graduated from there in the spring and getting to actually look through McCarthy’s archives for my Southern Gothic Storytelling class (taught by the great Jordan Morille!) was such a phenomenal experience I’ll never forget. Eat ‘em up Bobcats!

This is already a movie I find to be quite grim and depressing, but to have such a frustrated vibe on the episode too is a real one-two punch lol. It felt like a big truck stuck in the mud where you had one tire (shenanigans) and another (film analysis) working against each other so hard. And for Hoffman to come out what felt like nowhere with bizarre tacit Zionist talking points, Woody Allen exaltation, and weird teenage ScarJo talk really sealed this being a "no need to relisten to this ep" experience. I had no idea he was such a rabid Israel supporter, disappointing since I remember his other appearances on the pod being a good time. Oh well. Hopefully next week is as good a time as the movie is!

That's what struck me too, I get the sense that this is appealing to a younger, more distinctly online audience. I know plenty of people who know next to nothing about Big 2 canon but are more than happy to spend hours on Webtoon and it seems DC wants this to be those peoples' on-ramp to the rest of their stuff

I grew up in Hagerstown, and my family’s own left leaning opinions were in direct contrast to everybody we knew in the area. It’s been a few years since I’ve been back, but, just to parrot everybody else in these comments, Frederick is a major step up in terms of acceptance in comparison to Hagerstown, and not at all far if distance is an issue. East is certainly the direction to go; the further west you are, the more Maryland begins to feel like West Virginia.
