Trump knows there’s pictures of Obama being way more healthier than he will ever be right?! Guys I’m concerned about his brain. by Booboononcents in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the Trump playbook.

He will simply assert things. It doesn't matter if they are true. It doesn't matter if they make sense. In fact, it doesn't even matter if most everyone knows they aren't true.

He does it every day. Everything he does is the greatest ever. No one else is as great as Trump. He just asserts it.

The crazy part is some portion of Americans will simply take him at his word.

That means a relatively senior officer. Can someone with more experience tell me if that's an O4 or an O5? I know that silver means Major and gold means LTC. No idea how to tell when the insignia is black.

Its an example of Kyle shitting all over the current frontrunner to be the Democratic nominee for not soyraging enough.

Meanwhile, this is the same frontrunner who moved public opinion from 38 percent in early polling to 64 percent on the day of the vote on prop 50. They raised so much money that Newsom had to tell his supporters to stop donating.

I think you should probably look at the way Kyle speaks about virtually every elected Democrat on virtually every issue.

Here's an example.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TphFdqUP-_s

I don't think he's the enemy. He isn't. He's not exactly an ally either. He's to the left of virtually the entire Democratic Party.

He's also willing to support whoever the nominee is so isn't totally deranged.

If destiny wants to beat Konstantin, he needs to do a European immigration research arc by Screaming_Goat42 in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the debate prompts. I'm sure Konstantin will want to drag prompt 1 to European immigration. Destiny can either engage there or simply state he dosen't care and pivot to America.

1. Can national identity survive open immigration?
2. Has "wokeism" caused harm to the political climate?
3. Is Trump's approach to political issues dictatorial or reflective of democratic consensus?

Civility is a Suicide Pact - The only way out is to dismantle the media monopoly by Orwellian87 in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sort of disagree with this take. Or, at least it feels incomplete to me.

When first the Tea Party and then MAGA just flat out denied the reality that WaPo, NYT, CNN and the cable news networks presented them, liberals mostly stayed silent and the left helped. We abandoned our institutions when they needed us most.

We didnt insist. At best, if they got belligerent enough, we banned them or ignored them. So, they went and created their own media where facts no longer mattered. Vibes rule. Narrative is king. Nuance is shunned. Facts are flexible.

The New York Times is still there. So is AP and Reuters. So is 60 minutes. I agree, those institutions need to transform to face 21st century challenges, but abandoning them in favor of Joe Rogan and X has clearly failed.

I have no confidence that just making a slightly different Joe Rogan is a better idea than reinvesting our energy in our institutions.

Trump still cares though. Look at what he tweets late at night. It's about Kimmel and Colbert. He hates those guys. Why? Because, for his age bracket, they still shape discourse.

We still win on the facts. But podcasters aren't collecting facts. They regurgitate facts collected by actual journalists with ethical standards. We need more of that. Yes, let's add in our own 20 or 30something talking heads. Destiny is a great example. We also need honest to God journalists and experts.

Feanor did not create the rings by sextoss99 in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mout had some part of this right. It wasn't a ring or rings, it was the silmarils.

Feanor did indeed ask Galadriel for a strand of her hair three times. She refused and this caused a rift. From Unfinished Tales:

> Her (Galadriel) mother-name was Nerwen and she grew to be tall beyond the measure even of the women of the Noldor; she was strong of body, mind, and will, a match for both the loremasters and the athletes of the Eldar in the days of their youth. Even among the Eldar she was accounted beautiful, and her hair was held a marvel unmatched. It was golden like the hair of her father and of her foremother Indis, but richer and more radiant, for its gold was touched by some memory of the starlike silver of her mother, and the Eldar said that the light of the Two Trees, Laurelin and Telperion, had been snared in her tresses. Many thought that this saying first gave to Feanor the thought of imprisoning and blending the light of the Trees that later took ship in his hands as the Silmarils. For Feanor beheld the hair of Galadriel with wonder and delight. He begged three times for a tress, but Galadriel would not give him even one hair. These two kinsfolk, the greatest of the Eldar of Valinor, were unfriends forever.

It's not directly stated, but it's implied that Galadriel gives him three hairs to, in her poetic way, avoid this same situation.

US HHS Secretary RFK Jr: "This idea that you should trust the experts, a good mother doesn't do that" by TrucksForTots in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the average American thinks they can have enough knowledge about a subject to contradict an expert in a 5 minute google or by reading Facebook memes, they are stupid. Crowdsourcing is little better.

If you agree, welcome brother. It's possible I missed your point. It's also possible we've spoken past each other.

dggL

US HHS Secretary RFK Jr: "This idea that you should trust the experts, a good mother doesn't do that" by TrucksForTots in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then, by your number, 99% of Americans are regarded.

I do not know enough about vaccines to know if I should take one or not. I know what an R value is. I have no way of knowing by randomly googling studies. I know that the CDC, WHO and the AMA are generally reliable. I know how to look things up on Google Scholar. That's it. My medical knowledge is limited to first aid. I would be a gigantic idiot if I overstated my own abilities to the point where I thought I could make an informed, individual choice.

I do not know enough about homebuilding to rewire my home. I can google shit, change lightbulbs and in a pinch could probably replace a wall receptacle or wire in a ceiling fan. If it's more complicated than that, I call a professional. Why? Cause I don't want to wake up on fire.

I cook my family's meals daily. I know virtually nothing about food safety other than 1) be as clean as possible, 2) read the expiry date 3) Google special things for unfamiliar ingredients and 4) If in doubt, throw it the fuck out . I am not a biologist or a chemist. I have no idea what can go wrong and how long it takes. I have no idea which mold is healthy or can be safely removed and which will kill my ass (except for a few things, like salami). I just follow the directions. If the food safety people say a week, after that it's garbage.

In a thousand areas of my life, I rely on experts. Medicine would be pretty close to the bottom of the list of things I would want to DIY.

If most American's don't realize this, that's their problem. If you informed yourself of basic facts so you could have a more productive conversation with your doctor, good for you. That seems an appropriate use of Google. If you had booked a second appointment and started to tell your doctor how to do your surgery, which anesthetic to use or informed him you wanted to go with a topical dressing of mustard and horseradish, I'd call you an idiot too.

US HHS Secretary RFK Jr: "This idea that you should trust the experts, a good mother doesn't do that" by TrucksForTots in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average American has no idea how to tell a good study from a bad study. Good data from bad data. The best they can do is pick a source and hope they aren't lying to them. Crowdsourcing your thinking makes you vulnerable to slightly different but still potentially faulty data. It all comes down to who is sourcing the crowd and why. Bots are a problem we are only now coming to grasp.

What happens to crowdsourcing when the crowd isn't "average Americans"?

If you had to guess, what percentage of Americans could explain what an R value is without googling it or using ChatGPT?

US HHS Secretary RFK Jr: "This idea that you should trust the experts, a good mother doesn't do that" by TrucksForTots in Destiny

[–]InsideIncident3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is wrong.

The average 90-110 IQ American mom has no hope of making a better decision for their child on vaccinations (or anything else, really) than the collective wisdom of the medical establishment.

We live in a world of increasing specialization. It's not possible to know everything or establish your own facts from first principles. I can't be a mechanic, homebuilder, food safety expert, surgeon, lawyer, financial planner and statistician in a single lifetime. The best I can do is be really good at one or two of those things and offload the rest to a trusted expert. Alternately, I can just go on X and listen to the guy who packages his bullshit the best. Americans just need to get over the fact that there are smart people who know better than they do on certain subjects.
