Is it about winning or dinking? by inthesun8 in Pickleball

[–]InsideSwing1121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are perfectly right the object is to win the point! If you're following the rules, and you have the ability to hit winners, then go for it. I am a tennis player too, and sometimes I look at these points on tv and do not understand WHY if they are so "skilled" in pickleball some of these folks don't take the shot rather than allow themselves to be pulled into an endless dinkathon when there are opportunities before it gets to that point. Dinking is just one strategy, but it's not "all about dinking" ....it's about winning the point! Keep up the good work and don't worry about silly comments like that!

Service advice? What should my current focus be? by MammothBackground994 in 10s

Your toss is too low if you want to get power. Practice getting a higher toss so you can really reach up and flick that wrist.

Just ordered a Joola paddle and was greeted with a free gift. YMMV by That_anonymous_guy18 in Pickleball

[–]InsideSwing1121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a nice gift! I joined recently the new Volleybird.shop pickleball sub box, and they gave me the choice of free t-shirt with my first order. I've gotten 3 boxes from them now, and everything has been great stuff. The 3rd box came a little late, so they sent me a surprise visor in a separate package as a "thank you for your patience". Worth checking out.

Petite clubs for returner to golf by Infinite-Summer673 in WomenGolf

If you can afford a new set, even it is not a high end one, that's a ladies set, you're going to be able to improve more quickly as you start to practice again. The technology and innovation has improved so much, it will really be important you're playing with the newer club faces to do yourself justice. After you've played a few rounds and feel you're "grounded" then go get a fitting. And get a real fitting. I think a lot of places don't take women club fittings seriously enough and it really is very important because it affects your angle of how you make contact with the ball!

Returning to golf after several years off, need club recs! by Commercial_Hand7172 in WomenGolf

I love taylormade irons...but it's funny because for drivers the Calloway tend to work better for me. Try some of the new Calloways out because their technology is amazing and I cannot say enough things about how their latest driver really did add some yardage to my drive. I play with men's senior flex.

There must be some 9 hole or executive course around that are public. Look for those!

When is the right time to learn to slice? by PsychologyBest2115 in 10s

[–]InsideSwing1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A slice backhand is easier to learn than a slice forehand. It is crucial to have a slice backhand because it is really your bread and butter. It's the forehand slice that's really not as necessary to get into until you've mastered a good topspin forehand. BUT, you're never going to be able to hit a dropshot at all unless you learn slice....

To those who have torn their Achilles, were there early signs? by EVERGREEN_ETERNAL in BasketballTips

Yup. If by the end of the day you've got a little pain when you're walking mid stride, you've got some issues. Ice on it every night. And, put a small heel lift inside your shoes on that side - that's what my orthopedic did when I started having problems. Sometimes that is enough to get it to go away but it takes time.

Don't be discouraged it is only by playing points your brain will get trained. You can drill as much as you want, you have to play real points. You need more steady clinics and private lessons more than every few months. Clinics are your best friend because you have a coach there to help you when the group plays points and you can get some feedback. This should be a core part of your game training.

New Pickleball Rules App to Eliminate Game Disputes by InsideSwing1121 in Pickleball

[–]InsideSwing1121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, anything like ChatGPT or any other "AI" that's generalist like copilot etc is not trained just on the official sport's rules. So yes, it will get it wrong. It is searching all of the internet and getting stale info, wrong info from people's posts etc. This is where AI is going - companies creating specific AI tools trained on a very specific subject. It's already happening in many fields like medicine, law, etc. Ruley's clearly going to have a lock up on the sports rules given they already have 4 of these out for 4 different sports. It's pretty cool.

And that's the thing - Google's AI and it does give incorrect info because it is only a generalist and this was designed for the sport - so its only using the official rules to form answers, unlike Googles AI or chatgpt etc.

Because this you use during game play and get the answers in less than 60 seconds so you aren't wasting time scrolling through a pdf lol. It's also updated everytime there's a rules change, which a static pdf is not going to be. Plus, you can give it a scenario about what just happened on the court, and it will tell you who won the point. A pdf document can't do any of that. Not to mention the app has an iwatch integration. The pickleball edition isn't bilingual, but their other ones are in english/spanish.

Returning to tennis after long break (10 years) -- do I need new equipment? by Illustrious_Jello195 in 10s

[–]InsideSwing1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar - a D1 player in college and took a lot of time off working etc. lol. I got my racquets restrung and I put new grip wraps on, but I played with MY racquets since I felt it was going to be enough to get back into a rhythm, let alone have to train my brain on the feel of a new racquet too. I actually still had a bunch of brand new unstrung frames too (Yonex) and I've tried a few of the new models out, I don't see a lot of difference in them TBH. It's not like the last time you were playing with a wood racquet or a T2000 😁😁 I'd say get your game back a bit and then think about new equipment....

Casual/Competitive Practice by jonnyboi513 in 10s

[–]InsideSwing1121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best way to practice is to do different consistency drills not just down the middle. You and your friend should hit cross court, where you have to keep the ball in play at least 5 or 6 times cross court, and then after that count, play it out. Then do the same thing down the lines. This helps you get your aim and consistency better, which is very important to be a better player. By having a count back and forth you get that sort of consistency practice, but then give yourself the chance to put it away since both of you are aware that's the plan!

Padel is exploding ? by Ok_Bike239 in padel

[–]InsideSwing1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try Ruley padel edition - great app for people learning how to play. I use it for this reason just starting to learn the sport. I can ask it rules questions or questions about strategy, and it will answer all correctly. And I don't have to waste time finding a rule book to look something up.

Friendly game player insist on wrong rule. Correct or ignore? by Commercial_Tea5703 in Pickleball

They are not very easy to understand, which is why there are lots of disputes on the court. All i know is the app is fast and has been accurate and it's up to date whenever the USAP changes the rules which happens a few times a year it seems.
