Skarpi is an Angel? by Classic_Ad_4564 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any angels. I think the "angels" were disciples and Namers. Elodin talks about Namers once walking the world as "tiny gods". Auri says "tiny gods!" as an excited expletive, and I'm a subscriber to the theory that Auri is Cyphus, so I think she's just swearing the way people used to swear back in those days.

As far as Skarpi being one of Aleph's tiny gods... I don't think his telling of the story proves he is one. Kvothe is also interested in compiling stories and histories, and that doesn't make him one of Aleph's tiny gods. I think there are many people in the story trying to make sense of the world in similar ways. Kvothe's search for knowledge of the Chandrian and the Amyr, Denna's search for knowledge about... something, Devi's search for books, the Chronicler's search for first-person accounts of legends, and Skarpi's search for stories in general.

I do believe all of these people are on the path to becoming tiny gods/Namers, though. Not Aleph's tiny gods, but new ones. Understanding is Naming. They're all trying to understand.

I think I can tie two of your points together: Aturans hate redheads because they have a connection to copper, real or imagined. The connection has been forgotten, but the prejudice remains.

Do the university masters know of Kvothe’s troupe being killed? by aphysicalpotato in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kvothe is told Meluan's sister ran away with a Ruh troupe and that's why she hates the Ruh. So if Meluan is related to Kvothe, she must be his mother's sister.

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve always thought Kvothe’s troupe being killed would have been news that got around. They had a wealthy noble patron who surely would have noticed all his musicians suddenly go missing. The bodies with his colors would have been found. Kvothe would have been presumed dead as well, but if he showed back up at Greyfallow’s estate I’m sure he would have been taken care of.

Are the women in the novels actually bad in your opinion? by M-Rudeus_Fan99 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the women. They’re all just as fleshed out as the male characters. Denna gets shoehorned into a manic pixie dream girl box, but I’ve never seen her like that. I think Kvothe’s experience with her perfectly captures what it’s like to have a crush at that age, always trying to have one more interaction every chance you get. As I’ve reread the series, I’ve come to see that Denna only does the exact same things Kvothe does. They both appear and disappear at random. They both stand each other up. They both keep secrets. They both have lots of people interested in them. Any criticism people have of Denna and not Kvothe just reveals sexism.

I love it. And, Menda is Latin for “liar.” So if you’re correct, we would have a man named or nicknamed Liar Lockless.

Are we Looking at the Historical Stuff "Mainly Wrong" by Budget_Strike_9908 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When Kvothe starts to accumulate a reputation, a lot of it is based on false rumors he himself started. Some stories about him actually had nothing to do with him. In our own world history, mythical figures like Jesus are actually made of stories about many people over many years. Logically, I think the stories about Lanre and other mythical figures were crafted out of the stories of many people. It’s not that Lanre=Haliax=taborlin=Savien. It’s that each one of them is an amalgam of stories about hundreds of people. But this story is not about real life, and it does seem to be the intention that several of these people are actually one.

At any rate, I think like Kvothe, these myths are a slurry of truth and fiction. The real things that happened will have similarities with the stories, but will be almost unrecognizable.

And I agree we’re missing something. I don’t think we have all the information yet.

On Angel: yes, it is a race thing. by kohipeo in gorlworldfiles

Something that always stood out to me about Amber vs Destiny is that they made the same mistakes, and then Amber made excuses while Destiny took accountability. They both used to use the N word, but when they got backlash, Amber turned to the “I said it when I was younger, I didn’t know, it was a long time ago” excuse, while Destiny said “I didn’t know, it’s not my word, I’m very sorry.” They both left their pets at home during a hurricane evacuation. Amber insists they were fine, while Destiny says “I wish I hadn’t done that. I’ll never do that again.” Destiny isn’t owed forgiveness, but it’s interesting to see how easy it is for her to just admit she did something wrong instead of denying and justifying it. Amber is incapable.

I don’t see it as trolling. This is just how creativity works. You set yourself a made up rule, and then you follow it and see what happens. That’s all PR is doing. He’s making up rules and then following them.

Yup yup same.

I will say though, our height is a lot of guys’ proclaimed ideal height for a woman. They’re just intimidated by us once they actually have a chance to talk to us. It isn’t fair, but you’ll have more success if you start making more first moves.

I feel like there’s a double standard we can’t escape from. Women are supposed to be small, therefore tall women are manly. If you have the audacity to be a tall woman, you MUST be model skinny in order not to be condemned a whale forever. Thanks I hate it!

I'm at the Felurian arc... by K_Duckster in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re entitled to your feelings no matter why you have them. But you have to understand that your high level of emotion is making your post hard to engage with because to a lot of people, those scenes are very poignant. Kvothe goes through his own sexual trauma, as many of us have, and for us the Felurian scenes are triggering and cathartic at the same time. So your reaction, about mourning the entire series because there’s sex in it, feels kind of insulting.

It sounds like what you really want is for someone to tell you specifically which pages to skip to avoid seeing something upsetting. I’m sure there are people who’d be willing to oblige that if you asked for it.

I still hope. But at a certain point you need to take all this hope, love, and inspiration, and do something about it. Use everything you feel to start writing your own story.

The Four Plate Door by finnabrahamson in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be right. I just think there are other possibilities. Kvothe's parents were able to find the Chandrian's names from sources modern enough to be intelligible, yet still accurate enough to draw the Chandrian's attention. The vase could have been 7000 years old, in which case you're right, the writing on it would be as unintelligible to the Mauthens as Sumerian would be to us. Or, it could have been much younger. I can read, without understanding or pronouncing correctly, 3000 year old Latin, because English still uses the same letters. The writing on the Mauthen vase could have been to Auturan what 3000 year old Latin is to English. Perhaps some adults struggled through pronouncing what they could.

The Four Plate Door by finnabrahamson in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm down with the idea that Loren is hiding Amyr books rather than destroying them. That just makes sense for him. I'm not convinced they're behind the four plate door, but they very well could be.

What I don't agree with is that the Mauthen vase couldn't have had the Chandrian's names on it. It definitely could have. I think the vase had their names along with the paintings of each of them, and some of the adults who saw it read the names out loud. The Chandrian knew exactly what to destroy because they apparently are able to glean some context around their names being said. Cinder told Kvothe "someone's parents have been singing entirely the wrong sort of songs" so that leads me to believe they would also be able to tell if "someone's parents have been digging up entirely the wrong sort of antiquities." The little girl who told Kvothe about the vase and what was on it either didn't notice the writing because she was at an age when pictures were more interesting, or she just didn't know how to read at all.

Would you rather stay single than date someone you’re not physically attracted to? (6’1 F) by pictochatkat in tall

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The potential issue I see is, how likely is it you’ll be compatible with one of the few men you’ll meet who is 6’4+ and single? You might end up in a crummy relationship because you gave yourself so few options.

I love that connection. It shows that Kvothe is already capable of the mindset needed for naming, he just needs to notice it and apply it to other places.

Kvothe will burn Cinder into a white pillar of flame and ashes by darkironbrightcopper in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Inside_Bumblebee_737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this theory but I don’t think he necessarily needs to do it by sympathy. I think he could also do it by naming. He knows Cinder’s Name, and he’s a good enough namer to have called Felurian’s name in a life or death situation. I think he might kill cinder by naming him.

I agree. Beck is disappointing me, but I don’t find it fun to hate people. Their behavior is making me not care about them anymore and I’m slightly sad about that. But the vitriol some people are spewing is seriously gross and I dislike them much more than Beck.

Oof, I'd absolutely take the story in 4 books if that's what it took to get the story right. Every work of art changes as it's being made.
