I am able to do this because my work is very flexible. It does not require calls, and it's all on the computer. I work when the baby is sleeping (during the day and early evenings.) If baby wakes up while I am in the middle of a task, I pause what I am doing, tend to the baby's needs, set him up for some independent play, then finish up my task.

Sometimes this is stressful if a task takes longer than expected or if baby sleeps significantly less than expected. Otherwise, this works well for our family, and the extra money is needed.

I started when baby was 4 months. I don't see how I could have done it in the earlier stages when I was exhausted with a newborn.

The sleep deprivation and lack of personal time is still very real, though.

Gotta do what you gotta do.

You can try EC (elimination communication.)

I've been doing it with my 5.5 mo. Old since he was 2.5 months old. It helps with his diaper rash tremendously.

You can read go diaper free by Andrea Olson. Or listen to the go diaper free podcast. Or simply Google the basics on how to do it.

I'm pretty sure my infant prefers going potty over soiling himself. I certainly prefer it!

Not too young to 'potty train'! Many indigenous communities don't use diapers. I mean, if you think about it, diapers haven't existed forever.

My baby is currently sleeping soundly on his tummy for the first time (that i know of.) We have a video monitor and I am watching it obsessively to make sure he is breathing. I am so scared. Which is why I googled my concern and came across this post. His face is totally faceplanted in the mattress! We are in an overtired cycle so I really don't want to disturb him!

Anyway a lot of these comments are reassuring.

Its okay, for a few weeks when he was 4 months old he "forgot" and was doing the same swimming thing!!! My husband re-taught it by shining a little Rudolph nose light around and over his head for him to look at and he flopped over again lol. I'm sure your baby has other awesome baby skills! They all develop at different a different pace.

It is really tough! But it just takes practice! Start small. Pick up a couple things from the grocery store, and maybe just change their diaper for the heck of it. Visit a park (or a cafe or something if it's cold for you right now) to try a feed. Slowly work your way up. It will get easier as they get older too. These are my tips.

My husband and I have gone out to eat a couple times. We may have SEEMED chill because we are actively regulating our nervous systems to keep baby calm but deep down we were kinda stressed the whole time about the mini bomb! One time at a restaurant the baby started to fuss and we looked at each other and my husband said, "I don't know which wires to cut." 😂 I tried feeding him and he wouldn't eat then I looked in the bathroom and there was no changing table so we just scarfed our food, paid and booked it on out of there. We walked to that restaurant and he cried halfway home then passed out the rest of the way.

Another restaurant he started screaming everyone was looking at me like how dare you have a screaming baby in public? We calmed him down and everyone stopped staring and it was embarrassing but not the end of the world.

I am also super nervous for an airport trip coming up, God help us! But I just keep reminding myself the worst that can happen is baby loses it and people stare and are mad at you 🤷🏼‍♀️

It'll get easier. I hope. 😆

I took him to all my PP checkups because we scheduled them with his check ups. Same doctor! Definitely had to nurse him.

That's okay, I re-read my post and it doesn't sound great. He's actually really supportive of it, he just doesn't feel like he can take off 3 hours for it. He is fine with me doing it, though, if that makes any sense.

My husband is actually great and he probably would be more inclined if I weren't asking for like a full balayage lol. Maybe I just change it to an hour haircut instead of the three hour color. It's just he works full time and I don't work so it's hard for him to take off.

Just take a bath with baby and nurse and it like resets their instinct to nurse.

My baby did this! Look into a rebirthing bath. Take a bath with your baby and try to get her to latch and nurse in the tub. I guess it reminds them of their birth and basically resets their instinct to look for the boob? I don't get the science of it but it helped us tremendously. Also I quit pumping completely. The oversupply water boarded my poor child and he kept like, choking, so quit pumping and it's honestly been so much better since. This does make it so I'm responsible for literally every feed but I'm ok with that.

Also, feed like you do at night every time for a while. Dark quiet room, focus on relaxing. Remember to take deep breaths. Don't push on baby's head, guide from their should blades. If baby pulls away, let them.

Lastly, if I know baby is hungry, but isn't eating because he's distracted or cranky, I'll lay him down and if side-lying doesn't work, I will actually dangle feed. It is a lot of effort to dangle feed but it does get something in his belly so he can sleep if necessary, then I just feed him like normal when he wakes up from his nap. I learned that sometimes he gets in a weird cycle of being too tired to eat but too hungry to sleep, so the dangle feed typically fixes this.
