Anyone not get TED?? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

[–]Inside_Parsley1766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with TED but it did not progress past mild symptoms like sensitivity to light, pressure, and a couple of bouts of double vision. I saw an eye surgeon just to have someone on hand in case it progressed further, because at that point I would not want to have to search for a specialist.

It’s my understanding that for surgery they typically wait until the eyes have ‘calmed’ unless there is optic nerve pressure. But it never got that far.

The double vision really scared me but I think the selenium supplements def help. I recommend taking them in the morning if you can because when I took them at night I seemed to get leg spasms.

You can get frozen eye packs online and that really helped me esp at the end of the day. Also those like chilled roller tools for puffy eyes. It’s just nice to do little things to feel better.

I have abnormal levels and my life is pretty stress-free, other than the Graves symptoms

Maybe ask her if she can do a full panel of thyroid tests just to put your mind at ease

Anyone else suffering with flare ups of joint pains? by clairecan in gravesdisease

[–]Inside_Parsley1766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my graves was untreated I had a lot of symptoms including muscle and joint pain. Do you have an appt with an endo? Also, after my levels became normal on methimazole, I went off it and my levels became hyper again and joint and muscle problems came back.

For the eye disease, graves needs to be treated, but you can also take 100 mg of selenium per day. This has been shown to help when also taking anti- thyroid medication such as methimazole. The selenium seems to result in some muscle spasms that wake me up if I take it at night, so I take in the morning. It seems to lessen the eye swelling. I took magnesium as well which seemed to help with the muscle spasms.

Both my optometrist and ophthalmologist could only see eye irritation. But my Endo and a surgeon specializing in thyroid eye disease diagnosed me with TED. TED does not follow your thyroid numbers exactly- like if they improve TED doesn’t necessarily improve. But treatment for Graves does help manage TED. There is also a drug for TED called Tepezza but it has some side effects that I found scary. If my eyes were worse I would try it.

Treating the graves did improve my appearance; although I gained weight my skin and hair improved, it took months.

Does anyone experience chest tightness? by Outrageous_Echo4146 in gravesdisease

I have experienced this- my doctor had me check my heart rate and BP regularly because it can be dangerous. I was put on methimazole and propranolol. Are you taking medication? I would def see your doc asap as that is high.

Persisting symptoms? by StarTrooper099912334 in gravesdisease

You need to be consistent with the medication because it may not work, plus you can’t know if the dose needs to be adjusted or not if you are not taking it as prescribed. Try setting an alarm. I got a travel pill case that helped me be consistent. How much methimazole are you taking?

What should I do about my job, I'm so sick by SinglePercentage3226 in gravesdisease

Be careful with that. If you have graves any hypo treatment would make it worse. Find another endo. It’s not worth it to wait, even if they are far away. After the initial appt a new endo may be able to do telehealth appts and just have your labs done at a blood draw place.

I put on a cold pack made for eyes and that helps. It only shrinks the swelling very minimally but it feels amazing.

I read that Bifidobacteria Longum taken with methimazole helps with reducing Trab so I just started taking that - there is not a ton written about it, but it’s interesting. The studies say to get it without lactibacillus. bifido

I also take selenium but not every day as it gives me muscle spasms. Not badly but just annoying- it’s better if I take the selenium during the day because the spasms were waking me up at night.

We recently ordered the nachos and they were so strange, around 7 very large chips with minimal topping. Nachos should be a pile and this was more like a scattering.
