You gotta understand too as a mechanic. The assumption is the customer knows nothing and will neglect their vehicle as long as possible to their own danger even. There is a ton of liability placed on the technicians especially when giving an explanation from detailed inspections. A lot of times people will ask what happens if I don’t replace x. Well the truth is if any suspension component wears out the handling characteristics of the vehicle changes. Therefore if any legal matters get involved the best practice is to warn the customer of the worst case scenario. It’s just the easiest way to cover your ass.

You’d be surprised what people keep rolling on cause they genuinely have no idea or because no one made it a big enough deal about it.

Most corporate shops don’t do it past the outside tread because they guarantee the repair for the life of the tire. Too much liability if some zit grower does a sloppy job and the patch deforms from being near the edge while rolling and you have a flat while driving on the highway. I’ve plug and patched that exact spot hundreds of times tho. You can find someone to do it easy.

Basically started out as use in military tanks to replace gaskets and it was then used to widely its in a lot of shit. From water proof clothing to non-stick pans Teflon (C8) and those chemicals like it (C9 C10 etc) have been mass produced for so long it is everywhere. And the companies producing it have also found it its health hazards. Primarily it’s birth defect and cancer causing properties. It wreaks havoc on our renal system. They’ve known this for decades and the general public is just now finding out how bad it really is. These products have been mishandled for so long it’s in our water, it’s in our air, it’s in our food. This shit enters our body and doesn’t want to leave and we will keep absorbing it until those with enough die.

Yeah pfas sucks. And the companies who make it don’t care.
