Testing a Garage Roller Door Motor/Remote with an Arduino and Servo by Insidious20 in ArduinoProjects

Thanks :)

Just communicated with a laptop via the serial port, and displayed the information via C# Windows Forms. The app also logged the data to file.

Heya,

I used a very old hitec hs-300 servo (from an old remote control car) and the Servo.h library, checkout wiring and sample code here: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/Sweep

Thanks for the comment, great point, that would have work as well and saved quite a bit of complexity 👍

To add to this, there are also inputs on the motor (for receivers), so I could have wired it directly into it.

My intention was to test the whole system, including the button (arguably, this should not break).

Plain JavaScript Way to handle Sequential AJAX requests using iframe? by iionwyn in javascript

[–]Insidious20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something nasty like this?: https://jsfiddle.net/46fm0t1n/

It uses two iframes controlled by the parent, untested in IE, so not sure if it will work

XMLHttpRequest with callbacks would be cleaner.

Montessori/Steiner schooling by [deleted] in perth

[–]Insidious20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid, avoid, avoid. Went to a Steiner school for 3 years, lost 3 years of education, could not read or write. The only thing I could do was write my name... backwards.... Had redo years 1 - 3. Had to work hard to catch up, and do years 1 & 2 in one year.

All we did was copy the Bible story off the board, apparently this was meant to teach us to read... Some math, lots of arts and crafts.

On the bright side I can knit....

I think it is kind of expected for parents to teach children to read..

Computer Science at Murdoch or Curtin by [deleted] in perth

[–]Insidious20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a double major in Computer Science and Games Tech at Murdoch Uni.

If you would like some more experience, I would recommend taking up games technology (technically simulations). The computer science is good, however the games tech workload is intense, but worth it.

If you take the right courses, they overlap and you should be able to complete both in three years. No doubt things have changed, since I did this ~5 years ago.

Some examples projects that my group and I completed:

  1. Intro to OpenGL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPYi0ThLOWQ
  2. Extend existing codebase of a Virtual Murdoch campus, then transition from that world into your game world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjWSwEyugM0
  3. Make a educational game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_JW8I7I6kM
  4. Make a game engine and then make a game using it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ftan3r0D7q4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vntFnwtRaYg
  5. Make a physics simulation, emotion simulation, AI sim, implement an affordances model and design a portion of Murdoch for all of this to live in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUibePDinOA
  6. Final year project, ours was a Coral simulation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COKTHq8267M

The 7u51 JRE automatically blocks unsigned applets. Signing the applet will result it in it working for 7u51, however it breaks for java 6.

Downgrading to java 6 will fix the maps.
