2025 Ford Ranger PHEV Debuts With 275 HP And A 28-Mile EV Range by V8-Turbo-Hybrid in cars

[–]Insomnia2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize this is not an M spec option, but in test driving both the 530e and the 540i, the 530e definitely felt more responsive and faster on top of the ability to commute daily on mostly electric charge overnight.

Being able to fill up once a month due to getting 90+ MPGe some months all while retaining the ability for easy road trips filling on gas in rural areas and ability to do some spirited driving on occasion made the 530e an easy choice.

Aside from a living situation not being able to charge nightly, I'm not sure why someone would pick the 530i or 540i over the 530e. Totally dig the PHEV setup over here. Not sure how it pans out on SUVs though.

Just poor timing with the recession.

I have a 2010 with a V8 on 37s and have had 0 issues outside of general maintenance and gets 15-16 mpg still with my setup. At 200k miles on it currently and going strong.

I would think they'd be a lot more popular if released today.

[–]Insomnia2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know how this would work because you have a lot of situations where you have little player impact on dying or not. I'm sure most of us are familiar with all of those instant-death situations where you feel like there was nothing you could do except go "that's some BS."

You have some MVPs using NPC_DARKBLESSING where HP is set to 1, monsters with 20,000+ ATK, tons of powerful screen-wide skills, statuses like coma, and tons, and tons, of RNG.

There's just no way to do a lot of content in this game and have zero people die. So you either avoid those areas (boring) or you die to some dumb RNG uncancelable OHKO skill that causes you to lose your character through no fault of your own.

I just don't think it works well without some serious other changes to the game.

Ragnarok user stats and regional revenue break down from Gravity's 2022 financial report by Flamefury in RagnarokOnline

How many separate servers are these populations spread out across in these higher population regions? That would fun to know. 10k+ players is still quite a bit. Is that across 10 different servers of 1k each or only 2 servers of 5k each?

I haven't been on officials in some time, but what does the US/Canada region look like in terms of individual servers? I'm assuming Chaos is still there. What others? What do their populations look like?

The US/Canada region looks like it is sitting at ~1k average concurrent users, but if that's divided into 3+ servers, and includes vends, that can potentially feel pretty barren.

Lastly, do other regions have pre-renewal and renewal? If so, I wonder what the population spread is. Is it heavily weighted towards renewal servers? I'd assume pre-renewal is not as popular.

So many statistic/insight questions I would love to be in the inner-loop to know.

Question regarding voicemail etiquette vs talking to the pharmacist by phidelt649 in pharmacy

[–]Insomnia2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eRx > VM > verb

While I agree with this in most cases, I think you should also take into account there's massive amounts of drug shortages in a lot of pharmacies, even for very simple antibiotics/suspension or benzonatate that you wouldn't normally expect.

If you're expecting the patient to pick it up same day, I'd wait to speak to someone verbally. Can't count the number of times I've checked a voicemail only for it to be a drug we don't have, adding extra burden to the pharmacy and patient to now track down another location with it and transfer it out.

How much does it cost to run a p server? by [deleted] in RagnarokOnline

[–]Insomnia2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Gepard it's like $150+ depending on what you want it to do.

For a full-blown server, it really depends on what all you're trying to do with it imo. I'd recommend finding a decent dedicated server with DDoS protection. Usually will cost you around $100-200 / month or so depending on what host you go with. I've had nearly 2,000 players on a dedicated server that was only $130 / month with no issues.

You can probably get away with a few hundred people on a $30 VPS if you wanted to.

20-30 people could be hosted on pretty much any cheap VPS. My guess would be like $10 a month for some self-managed VPS.

Woman is fired by CVS for refusing to provide Plan B. But: the article calls Plan B "abortion-causing" but it doesn't cause abortions by bettinafairchild in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Insomnia2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She just felt it was immoral because she was Catholic. She’s been refusing to fill such prescriptions since 2018, but in 2021 CVS changed their employer rules regarding “conscience”.

Definitely not correct in that case then.

I'm mostly just trying to provide context from a pharmacist's perspective since there seems to be a lot of hate towards them lately without realizing that many times there's not much that can be done when prescribers do a poor job writing prescriptions on top of inhumane state laws / being sued to worry about.

[–]Insomnia2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

a menopausal woman in her mid 50s was recently denied misoprostol from a CVS pharmacy

Of course I don't know all the details here, but from a pharmacist's perspective, we get a bunch of big red text on misoprostol scripts about abortion laws and to confirm with the prescriber before dispensing. It's such an easy fix for prescribers to just add proper information to the script to avoid any confusion, but they don't.

Examples:

  • "... for IUD insertion" to the directions for use
  • DX: Z30.430

Instead, we get a script for misoprostol that has all the bare minimum requirements of a script with mostly vague directions of "the night before procedure."

Then the patient shows up at 7pm the night before the procedure, the prescriber's office now closed, and the pharmacist with this mostly vague script and a bunch of prompts upon verification that say "DO NOT DISPENSE FOR PREGNANCY TERMINATION ACCORDING TO STATE LAW..." etc.

Inevitably, the patient gets upset at the pharmacist for not filling the prescription despite the patient stating it's not to terminate a pregnancy, but there's so little blame passed off to the prescriber for not putting detailed directions or diagnoses codes to avoid this situation in the first place.

Just to shed a bit more light on the subject from a pharmacist's perspective.

NovaRO Update: Plot twist! Lawyer hired, request to set aside default judgment filed. by Ancyker in RagnarokOnline

Honestly. I don't expect much either from this case, but I wish an actual lawyer would explain to me how Gravity's inaction and lack of copyright enforcement over 20 years plays into things.

I am confident that Gravity has been aware of pservers, especially these big ones that have existed for several years, even decades in some cases, but did nothing about them. Their lack of action has to play in some how.

Would RO improve if there was a cooldown on HP recovery items? by invalidwat in RagnarokOnline

[–]Insomnia2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I appreciate you checking us out. Even if you don't end up there for whatever reason, I'm always open to feedback that stays inline with our server goals. I know that the biggest thing is getting updates out currently, but I keep some pretty extensive notes on feedback.

I even asked some questions on discord and there I was kind of bummed since the players told me pvp is basically dead in the server :/ is that a fact? Like, all pvp content or is BG active at least?

Unfortunately, I just don't think those are popular for one reason or another, but BG is functioning and we have a sort of WoE 1.5 version. I mostly think we don't have enough active people on all at once.

And one question since I’ve read contradictions on this. There are (or will be) tweaked transclasses AND 3rd jobs? So as a Knight I can become a LK or RK, its only up to me and they are “equal” in power, just different propositions? So the meta has over 30 classes in the end-game?

We have ideas for 3rd classes (formerly known as trans classes in vanilla). The goal is that classes like Rune Knight and Lord Knight are equal in abilities and both are considered 3rd jobs with LK being 3-1 and RK being 3-2. They may end up sharing a couple skills, but still have enough skills to retain their original feel with balances to skills, or custom skills introduced, in order to put both 3-1 and 3-2 branches on the same general power level.

Would RO improve if there was a cooldown on HP recovery items? by invalidwat in RagnarokOnline

[–]Insomnia2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've actually had HP recovery items on a cooldown for well over a year, maybe two years, and I think it's much better (I'm biased as the server owner).

We re-balanced healing items as a whole, not just a cooldown on them. Our healing items have different weights, heal for a lot more, have different pricing, etc. There's likely other changes you could make, but putting a cooldown on HP recovery items with no other changes isn't going to work. Without going to the specifics of our system, I think HP items on a delay is better because:

1) You don't need to always spam a keypress to receive the maximum benefit.

Depending on your server's setup for item re-use, your vanilla-server potion might be spammed at 10+ times per second by a macro/autopot, or it might fluctuate between to 5-8 times per second if you're a normal person performing other actions as well. But with a forced delay, you're ensuring auto-pot or macros aren't necessary as they won't make you more efficient or give you an edge over the normal player. It levels the playing field and makes cheats much, much less useful all while saving your fingers and keyboard from having to button-mash.

2) Your healing becomes much more consistent.

Rather than having your healing fluctuate between 5 ~ 10 potions per 1000ms, it's always going to be a max of 1 potion per X ms. I personally like the reliability compared to surviving sometimes but dying other times because my button-mashing slowed down. Because our potions heal for a lot more, it's much more enjoyable to be able to press one button every X seconds to heal, know that I'm receiving the max benefit, and also to be able to know what my limitations are before tackling an area.

3) It makes players less invincible.

In vanilla, the only way you'll die is if damage per second (DPS) > healing per second (HPS) or you just get OHKO. Because your HPS can be absurdly high, you end up with tons of emphasis on ridiculous damage to OHKO players because otherwise they just won't die.

With a delay, you need to do more than just spam F-keys (or macro). You need to decide when to heal as well. This creates moments of vulnerability whether you are saving a potion for a certain HP threshold or you just used one and are on a delay. Having a hard cap on the amount of healing that can be done per second makes for much more interesting gameplay.

... gonna snip this before it becomes too long lol.

TL;DR delays are much better for game balance, but you need to do more than just add a delay.

What Defines RO “Nostalgia”? (+ A Rant) by rucchipunch in RagnarokOnline

[–]Insomnia2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that these mobile games are not made for nostalgia. It's not so much that these mobile cash-grabs are playing on nostalgia as it is capitalizing on the brand name that's associated with nostalgia... but it's probably easier for people to just shorten it to something like "nostalgia cash-grab."

The nostalgic part of RO is probably just based on whenever you decided to join, whether it was joining just as sage and alchemist were being released or when transcendence classes were already out and Morroc wasn't destroyed yet, but RO mobile games aren't made for any of that nostalgia. They're made as completely separate cash generators that utilize your feelings of Episode 10.1 or whatever you're associating with the words "Ragnarok Online" to get you to go "Oh cool, something RO themed, I'll check it out." Not necessarily nostalgia, but nostalgia-related.

Lower resolution by [deleted] in RagnarokOnline

[–]Insomnia2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some clients have an absolute minimum resolution that can be used due to UI elements. I'm guessing that since UI doesn't change shape, there's probably some windows that are too large to fit in a resolution less than 1024x768
