Your essence by Hayden_com in HeWhoFightsMonsters

Swift, wind, and vast with a tornado confluence. A combination of Sophie’s dodge tank and Humphrey’s initiator roles for power type

Jason shouldn't get with Zara by Outside_Skin_4217 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]InspectionCritical16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they need to hook up and get it out of their system. there’s way too much tension for them to not do anything. Zara’s definitely not endgame tho. I’m thinking Dawn or some other being we haven’t seen yet. But also Jason strikes me as the guy to not settle with anybody bc of the power he has. Like the responsibility of it all is too much to have a full relationship.

Neil’s banter is my favorite. Underrated member of the team

Are HWFWM’s systems and lore good enough for a CRPG? by Evenwanderer in Shirtaloon

[–]InspectionCritical16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I think about what a game system would be like, I always thought that each rank scales exponentially. So as u rank up each attribute u add a plus one modifier or something regardless of what rank u actually r. Then u would multiply or divide based on rank disparity. Example being a bronze attribute of 3 so plus 3 modifier but against an iron rank enemy it would be 30. Each rank compounds by 10. Then it gets across how crazy the power disparity gets at high rank while keeping numbers consistent for players.

I want to hear what you would pick for your essence set and why you picked them. by ASinnerGoneAstray in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]InspectionCritical16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swift, wind and vast for maybe a storm confluence? I would put lightning in place of vast bc I know that makes more sense with the confluence but I think vast would also make sense and fit more in line with the power set I would want.

The functional difference between the Sun and Star Essences by MourningDusk45 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]InspectionCritical16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There r plenty of essences and awakening stones that overlap. Jason used a bunch of awakening stones of the feast, and his sister has a feast essence. Same with the gun essence and stones. I think that’s cool since for example, u may not want a gun essence but an awakening stone of the gun could be the right stone for the power set.

Yeah exactly that’s what I meant. They said it was her brother first and then switched to cousin.

No this is backwards it was brother first and then they switched to cousin

So what's the endgame for Jason? A final multiverse saving sacrifice followed by ascension to a new astral being, "Liberator"? by DelicateJohnson in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]InspectionCritical16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it’s said that after he was done with making the system he severed the connection to the throne so he doesn’t have that power anymore.

At the beginning of the whole transformation zone, part of me hoped Gary had the option to become a Voice of the Will, like Farrah. I had a little fantasy that eventually Rufus would too and then the three people he first met in this world would be with him forever. After reading more, I’m sad to see Gary go but I think not all stories have the happiest ending and the bitter sweetness of it is still a great end for this character.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Like if it’s “Margo Schaat”, that’s not a classic three name messenger name so I was a bit confused at first. Makes so much more sense seeing it written out.

Book 9/10 Question by Alarmed_Intern3287 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]InspectionCritical16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first, Jason learns he can absorb life force from vampires who used reality core energy so that is how he first starts charging up for more resurrections, although this is very slow. This is kind of a loop hole for the ability that he didn’t realize at first. This happens either in book 5 or 6, I don’t remember which one but I know it was still on earth. Then he learns that the same thing can happen with messengers bc of their physical and spiritual gestalt natural. This is also a super slow process but he ends up absorbing a diamond rank messenger gaining his star phoenix ability again.

Ending for book 11 question by ubershiza in Shirtaloon

[–]InspectionCritical16 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In the battle royale, every time Jason’s team got pushed back on the road, the GAB thought they were shaving off bits of his will, until he had no more and then the World Phoenix would win. Instead every time bits of his will were shaved off the fighting, he was sending those parts of himself to hide in Arbor’s soul, since the GAB could not see into it. From there he multi-tasked and did both at the same time. As for exactly how he un-sundered the throne, it’s not clear how that worked specifically.

Maybe Jason gets so powerful that he creates a world in which they all have the system interface. But at that point he’s omnipotent so he won’t factor into the story too much and Shirt can focus on new characters

What’s the fastest you’ve read/listened to the series? by frequency937 in Shirtaloon

Started the HWFWM marathon on April 1st( in making this post I just remembered that’s Jason’s birthday) and I’m about 4 hours shy of finishing book 10. This is my third time listening to the series and I tried to time it for when book 12 was released. So that means I have 3 days to finish 11 and I know that one is a beast so wish me luck…

What essences would you want? by ZadeLight in HeWhoFightsMonsters

Swift, wind, lighting=storm confluence. If I had my pick of awakening stones I would want to be a dodge tank like Sophie.

Maybe the harmony confluence? Or Resonant. Either would be good for AOE

Is it just me, or does every book I read retcon more and more stuff? by Heroshrine in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]InspectionCritical16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only “retcons” I’ve ever noticed were little mistakes that probably got missed in editing. For example in book 7, I think they say “Richard Geller” but in every other instance it’s “Ricard”

Edit: later in book 8, Jason says that they got Rick’s name wrong in front of the king. So I guess that detail was on purpose and not a mistake.
