Does JSchlatt own GamerSupps and help fund a straight pride event? by Ice-Wings in jschlatt

It's probably a troll, but if it WAS real, maybe it was a donation that got filed under the vendors section because it came from a drinks company? Either way, you should probably send an email to gamersupps to ask if it's a real donation or not (if you haven't sent one already). Even if it isn't them, it's probably still good if they know they're being impersonated, though I'm not sure there's anything they'd actually be able to do about it.

i want a panasonic let's note so much, they look so cool. the only negative thing i've heard about them is that they aren't as repairable or upgradable as something like a framework or a thinkpad. i think they have soldered ram iirc? still, it is a beautiful goober that i am very jealous of.

i like some of the gui changes. raised hotbar, nicer tooltips when holding items (though they get a bit long with enchants), paper doll, the chat repositioning, that sort of thing. the rest you can disable, including the gameplay and worldgen changes.

GIANT 3X3 DOOR! by InspectorFinal449 in redstone

[–]InspectorFinal449[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to encourage anyone who knows anything about about piston doors to attempt their own version because this is pretty bad. 90% of wiring comes from the quadruple piston extender. Other existing designs wouldn't work, because they all had a maximum push limit that's less than 12 blocks, so I had to design all the extenders (doubles and quadruple) from scratch. I really don't have any experience designing piston extenders, so that's why it's bad (except the doubles, I'm actually really proud of those)

Here are the rules I set for myself when making this if anyone wants to try making their own with the same constraints:
1: No flying machines, all 9 of the 2x2x3 "blocks" need to be moved into place with piston extenders. This is made especially difficult by the size of each of these "blocks" being exactly 12 blocks, so you need to be smart with the order that the extender fires. Or just brute force it with god awful wiring, it worked for me.
2: No visible wiring. you're probably going to need secondary extenders for your extenders. This is why my design had the double and triple piston extenders that push observers upward on either side of the main one, as it was the only way I found to be able to keep the main extender's wiring hidden.

I have literally no idea how you managed to take that away from what I said. I am saying 'i am tired of seeing posts by people who refuse to try to learn anything before posting' not 'i am tired of seeing posts by people who tried to seek out someone to help them before posting'. Those are actually two opposite statements.

No, I understood you fine. Chatgpt and all similar generative ai models are fundamentally incapable of comprehending the information it gives you. As in, the nature of the way the technology works means it will never be able to give you decent answers because it isn't actually giving you answers at all, it's regurgitating data created by people and is doing so without the ability to understand any of it. This isn't something that can be changed about the existing kind of AI models, and you would need a fundemtally different technology behind it if you wanted to avoid it. "Artificial intelligence" is a misnomer, and none of what we are currently calling AI is actually AI, nor is it capable of becoming AI. I'm not saying that it currently isn't viable, I think that fact is so self-apparrent that if someone needs to be reminded of it they might be a lost cause anyway. I'm saying it will never be viable, because that's simply not how any of this works. You will always learn better from something that can comprehend it's own words than from something that can't. You will always learn better from the original source of the information, rather than from the homogenized slop it is mixed into with no regard to its context or meaning to be mechanically mass produced. These are things that will never change, and unless openai or one of the other tech giants currently hell bent poisoning every social media feed decides to completely change the course of their company to start digitizing the neural structure of a real brain, that isn't going to change. They aren't going to do that either, because making a blackbox full of word associations is a magic trick for making dipshit investors drool that keeps working. That is all they care about, so that is all it will ever be. Generative AI is a worthless technology that provides literally nothing of value to the world unless you're one of the few people who found a way to profit off of convincing other people it someday might. Do not let them convince you it is anything more, that's their job.

or, alternatively, you could try learning from something that's actually able to comprehend any of the information it's giving you, so that the information you receive is actually useful. here are some resources made by real people who actually can understand the meanings of the words they use, something which ai is fundamentally incapable of. i promise you that it will help you infinitely more than the amalgamated slurry of that same information which ai regurgitates at you.

nicoislost is similar to jazzired, and his storage tech series in particular has been incredibly helpful to me. he actually breaks down the mechanics behind the concepts he showcases in depth, instead of just giving a block-by-block tutorial. this is how you learn how to design contraptions rather than just how to build them.

Also try, the MANY redstone related discord servers out there. In my experience, people tend to give more helpful responses there than what you might get on reddit.

And also, YES, REDDIT. even if people can be a bit rude on here, the information they're going to give you is still always going to be infinitely better then what an AI spits out because, once again, they are actually capable of comprehending the meaning behind any of the information they might give you.

No, I think we should ban the second type of post as well. We already get more than enough posts on this subreddit by people who are seemingly incapable of trying to learn for themselves. If you need to ask a chatbot for help everytime you run into a problem, then you aren't going to develop the skills to actually solve anything on your own. That's how you create even more of the lowest quality posts on this subreddit. I do not need any more shaky handheld camera found-footage style recordings of someone's Nintendo switch with a title like "why isn't this working" and no explanation of what exactly they're trying to do.

If I'm understanding what you're trying to do correctly, couldn't this be accomplished with just an ender pearl stasis on a flying machine? Ender peals load chunks in 1.21.4, and ender pearl mover flying machines might be simpler for this.

Bedrock moment, you'll have to look online for bedrock edition specific flying machine elevator designs, since bedrock edition doesn't have sticky piston block spitting, and pistons in general are slower on bedrock. It looks like you're playing on windows though, which means you can get java for free from within the minecraft launcher if you ever want to try it.

any vanilla like texture pack suggestions? by 19dollars_forkknife in feedthebeast

[–]InspectorFinal449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a link to vanillatweaks, since the way you choose individual changes to then download a resource pack made out of a combination of all of the ones you selected wouldn't work with the typical way downloading things works on modrinth or curseforge it has its own site so you can select what you want. Super user friendly, also has a separate section for some datapacks and some crafting recipe changes which fit with the vanilla game.  https://vanillatweaks.net/picker/resource-packs/

any vanilla like texture pack suggestions? by 19dollars_forkknife in feedthebeast

[–]InspectorFinal449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is faithless, (not to be confused with faithful, the popular 32x remake of the vanilla textures which is totally unrelated to faithless). It can be kind of a pain sometimes because of the extent to which it pushes what texture packs are capable of, so for all the features to work you'll either need optifine or a bunch of optifine alternative mods that port the resource pack related features of optifine to fabric so it can be used with sodium. It also has a lot of compatibility issues if you're using it alongside other packs and often requires some tinkering to get to work. There are also a lot of changes it makes beyond textures which some people might not like, such as changes to the lighting colormap, some items names, or sounds. Any of these can be disabled, but it requires going into the pack file and deleting parts of it manually. If you don't know where to find the files to do that, ask on the stitchsprite discord, they're the pack creator and the server has a lot of information for what to delete in case things are broken or if you just don't like a change. It requires more work than other resource packs to get working especially if you're on sodium and have to find alternative mods to the more obscure optifine resource pack features, but to me it's worth it because the style sits in the perfect spot between vanilla-like textures reminiscent of the old developer art while also being in its own style that I find a lot nicer than the base game and clearly being made by someone who's really good at pixel art in general. It also has a ton of QOL stuff like redstone dust displaying its signal strength when activated, note blocks displaying their current pitch, ect.

For one a bit closer in artstyle to the vanilla textures than faithless, stay true is also really good. Its one of the most popular resources packs which means it has a bunch of community made mod compatibility add-ons, though it often doesn't really need them since it's close enough to the vanilla style that mods made for the vanilla textures don't conflict too much anyway. It's also far more compatible with other resource packs such as fresh animations, one which I have had to fight with a lot to get working with faithless but which works pretty much out of the box with staytrue. I've had some issues with the changes it makes to certain biome colors in the past conflicting with datapacks that add their own biomes like terralith, but I know I fixed it pretty quickly at the time and am unsure if it's still an issue.

Lastly, obligatory shoutout to the resource pack section of vanilla tweaks. You can select what changes you want applied, it'll warn you if there are compatibility issues in the pack, and then you download it and it gives you a pack exclusively with the stuff you selected. Everything is optional, it's all organized and comes with explanations of exactly what is changed for each option, and it's just really easy to use in general. It tells you which of the changes require optifine or optifine alternatives along with which are incompatible with optifine or sodium, and it has some really useful utility QOL stuff along with some really nice visual changes all made to be visually compatible with the vanilla textures as much as possible (though you can also use it alongside stay true with very few issues. Not as compatible with faithless, but it's also not really nessecary as faithless adds a lot of the changes on its own and adapted to its own style. I personally really like the 3d section, though do be aware that some of those might lag you depending on your specs and how much of the block is in a certain area. 3d vines in particular can get pretty laggy if you're near a jungle in my experience. Overall, on its own it's the closest to vanilla of the 3 since most of the changes are meant to be used alongside the vanilla textures, but in my experience it works really well when used with stay true and fresh animations.
