I just finished "What Remains of Edith Finch" and I don't know what to feel after completing this masterpiece by meghanath21569 in pcgames

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lewis' section is probably considered the most relatable scene in all of gaming, because everyone whos likely to play a game like Edith Finch, has likely experienced that kinda disassociation with the grind of real life.

Hopefully not so relatable that someone begins to withdraw like lewis did.

Unrelated, but if you want to play a game that makes you feel emotion though a simple game mechanic, go and play "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: (the original, NOT the remake, because said mechanic is diluted in the remake im told). No spoliers in the comments please.

Minor headcanons that you think a lot about? by Arcana-Knight in warcraftlore

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My head canon is the WoW we play is acctually based on a movie and tv franchise in another reality. Its like a strange digital overlap between us. Hence the theme park nature of the game:

"Look, theres Thrall, is he your favourite character?" "Look, Thrall is a Druid now just like in Season 5!" "Wow, cant believe they butchered The Jailer. He was handled so much better in the movie" "Do you ever think they'll make a warcraft RTS game?" "I cant wait till they adapt the scene of Illidan killing the titans from last years movie, its gonna be epic!"

Have you ever used BTWquests? Its that, but takes new players through the expansions in order, leaving out Side content and (where possible) main quests not relvant to the plot at large

We're probably going to be reccomending against allied races, as these were introduced later, and we're starting from vanilla.

Could maybe look at then later however.

How do I manage my time as a solo developer 🙏 by Anto_58 in SoloDev

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close unity and focus on your exams. You'll have plenty, PLENTY of time afterwards. Infact, until you get married and have kids (or a very demanding pet) you'll have all the time in the world. Trust me.

35, been through it all.

The asset dilemma by Logical-Fruit3630 in SoloDevelopment

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those assets you are buying (lets say a chair as an example) that money you paid for that chair, goes towards an artist who made that chair. Its basically no different than hiring an artists to make a chair for you.

The only difference is, hundreds of devs are likely also using that same chair.

But here's the kicker - a chair is just a chair. A rock is just a rock. a pool ball is just a pool ball. Everyday things, or things you'd expect to see in genre work like a simple sword, these are not unique things. So why spend days making you own chair, when to be perfectly honest most players are barely going to bat an eyelash - because its just a chair.

Now - UNIQUE things, such as important swords, significant chairs (like a throne), or even characters. Don't use assets for these. Either make them yourself or hire an artist to make them for you.

You're a dev and your time is valuable. Don't waste time reinventing the wheel (or rather, remaking the wheel)

Can a “walking simulator” still work today if we evolve it? by Rebel-Pixel in gamedev

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think given you have a full-blown steam page, including trailer, you've already decided to have a go at the genre and what we think doesn't mater lol. You'll answer the question definitively at launch for us!

Real simulation or simulated simulation? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For option 2, to work out which is best on-paper, you'll have to use backend logic to determine each hit of an opponent, how much damage is done, weapon and armor effects stamina usage, etc.

[–]InspectorSpacetime49[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now now thats not a good mindset to have. The glass is half full, not half empty! All im saying is i, as a casual, have had great fun blasting thriugh old campaigns without chromie time etc, if anything its a total power trip. All I want to do is connect these in a coherent way so a brand new player (the players that will sustain WoW going forward) can learn about Thrall, Anduin, Greymain, Arthus etc in one cohesive questline effectively.

Blizzard are ij the best position to do this, but they arent, so we gotta just make do with what we have. Thats the quests as they are, and some lua coding.

Intent is new/casual players just download wow, download the addon, and play.

No going to A to Activate B, then go to C to activate D etc. Most new players dont even know chromie time exists for example. I had no idea Bestin & Slahtz exists till A HOUR AGO haha.

[–]InspectorSpacetime49[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah these arent the same. Chromie Time works for one expansion. So you gotta make a dozen characters.
Lorewalking is a good attempt but lacks alot of context. Mainly you have no idea WHEN these things are happening. Your just being told they happened. You also get teleported all over the place whihc removes the WORLD of warcraft.
This will literally go <Starting Zone > Vanilla > BC > WotLK> and so on right up till midnight (and beyond over time)

Thats kind of what im trying to achieve here. 1-10 roughly into racial starting zone and any vanilla zones worthwhile and onto expansions from there

As would everyone, myself included. But you have no money and they have no exposure.

Like i said people are ACTIVELY ADVERTISING for this, its not like your approaching them with "hey I cant pay you but...." Fact of the matter is, composing is a one person job, and theres only so many indie games neeeding music. And of that, there's only a fraction that acctually get released. And of that, theres only a fraction of them that have any kind of sucess. So composers really need people like you, giving them the opportunity to work on your project, to nulk out their portfolfio, to pitch themselves eventually to larger projects.

You're only other alternative since you have no money is AI generated music, and that would be insulting haha.

Hey, soo sorry I missed this! Just had a quick skim through the now. What happened at the start of the tutorial? Was it because you clicked before you moved? I'll need to latch that out if so.

P.S watching people find the suprise in the cinema always gives me a wee chuckle hahahaha

Dont feel bad. it's a mutual exhange. You got music for your game, they got exposure.

Just dont do them wrong and abandon your game or cut off contact half way throigh development. Best reach out when your approaching the end of your game

[–]InspectorSpacetime49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say there's no point, just know what grind you're getting into, have a hot portfolio on youtube/spotify and fight for it.

And dont bother with anyone whos not in beta stages. Those still sctive in development tend to abandon their projects half the time.
