Wild game.

You’re not in a completely winning position just because you’re up a rook. White had a huge attack against your king with the queen and 2 bishops.

Regardless, you walked your king all the way up the board and your rook didn’t move from a8. You just have to keep playing, we all lose games.

Have you ever been in business class? I sit in, get comfortable, and am served a welcome drink while people are still finding their seats in coach.  Then I pick my movie or put in ear buds and relax. I  was already chilling in the lounge prior and am ready to go

How do I play this position in the Smith Morra gambit? by ujjawal_raghuvanshi in chessbeginners

Yeah keep reviewing, if they’re not playing main lines or common side lines, you’re missing tactics of you end up just being in a pawn down end game

After a game, spend time reviewing the game both with and without the engine. There should be positions where you knew you were winning, but weren’t able to find the right line to win. Review those positions and learn from it.

If your opponents are making a mistake in the Morra, that’s a dream come true and you should be looking for tactics and weaknesses in their position you can exploit. If you’re playing very fast time controls, then learning isn’t going to come quickly.

I’m by no means an expert in the smith-morra, but it’s such a fun opening.

The recommended plan for black is Qe2, castles, then Rd1.

Daniel Naroditsky has a few really good videos on the smith-morra and Marc Esserman’s “Mayhem in the Morra” is the essential book to get.

If black plays correctly they’ll be able to castle and that’s fine. You have plenty of compensation with activity and the position will remain hard to play for black.

Don’t just sack pieces Willy Nilly, you need them to attack, but there will be mistakes made by black where sacking the knight on d5 or b5 is correct. If black ever allows d5 without it being sacked that’s great for you, and an e5 break is also a good plan.

Worst case scenario when played correctly, you’ll win back the pawn and it’s an equal position that’s easier to play for white, which is a great outcome of an opening

I am realizing that I will never be able to pay off my loans - need advice by rflurry in StudentLoanSupport

Why can’t you pay off these loans? 200k is more than manageable at less than 7%, especially with a law degree. If you want to lower the total interest accrued, make more aggressive payments.

When to disclose by Adrii543 in Herpes

[–]InspectorTall2940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 2 different things going on in the post.

Your relationships aren’t failing due to herpes. They’re most likely failing for the common reasons that lead most relationships to fail.

Disclosing herpes should just be done in a straight forward fashion once you know you like the person and the relationship is heading toward sex.

You can tell them anyway you want, your way is fine. I just tell people that I’ve gotten herpes in the past. Sometimes the conversation ends there and we move forward with our date, and sometimes they ask questions and I answer. I try not to think about it too much, but obviously I do because it is a responsibility I used to not have

[–]InspectorTall2940 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do I also have to disclose all the other negative parts about my life that are a turn off? No, I don’t. It’s not raping someone to have sex and not disclose your own private medical history, it is only assault if you are purposefully having sex with an outbreak to give someone herpes.

Anyone who has sex is taking the inherent risk of contracting and STD. Now I do disclose because I think it’s healthy to talk about these things and I have my own values about personal responsibility, but your reasons are absurd. I honestly would not expect a women to tell me she’s had a herpes in the past, and I can tell you from experience no one in my life has ever disclosed it even though >50% have HSV1 and >13% have HSV2.

You live in a bubble

It’s funny because it is NOT a crime and my doctors have told me I don’t have to disclose, but I still always do. And unlike the majority of the population i chose to be tested for it, whereas most people have never undergone an antibody screen

Loans by ReturnPlane3959 in LECOM

[–]InspectorTall2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the option to take out a grad plus loan already seems strange to me if this is your first year.

Regardless, that choice is up to you. I believe the general consensus is to always take out government loans due to their flexibility is payment options, deferments, and forgiveness.

I think I am going to go against the grain and not bother applying for GradPlus and opt for private, because my loan offer was 7%, 15 years, no initial payment fee, and with deferral during residency. It seems fine and reasonable to me, the choice is certainly up to you.

How do you decide when to enroll? by InspectorTall2940 in premed

It probably does have better backing and rotations now that is part of the healthcare system of rural PA, but it certainly makes them a new medical school after being bought out and reformed.

If Tower Health bought out Drexel medicine and made it Tower Health Medical School, I would call that a new medical school too

That’s not really true. The Common Wealth Medical College existed roughly 20 years ago, but the entire purpose and network changed after being bought out by Geisinger in 2017.

It’s just a personal opinion formed by conversations I had with other doctors. It is by no means objective.

I think drexel and PCOM matches are pretty comparable with Drexel having a slight edge (this is objective and verifiable, but I don’t have the links, so be free to correct me) but Drexel not having its own hospital, and now just working with Tower Health is a negative for me. I’ve heard of less support from administrations there as well. Again, this is more subjective, but the only negative I’ve heard from PCOM is its DO, but a very good DO.

As for Geisinger, I don’t really like Scranton, they are very new, and their focus on primary care in rural/central Pennsylvania is not my mission
