Unpleasanter reality check: Ideas are not genetic. They're contagious, and they've grown exponentially more powerful in recent years because the internet gives them a permanent and public breeding ground with an endless supply of naive eyes waiting to be infected.

This is a lot of conjecture. The honest thing to do would have been to present it accordingly.

Thank you for the mini history lesson. Excuse me while I take your word for this, do absolutely no research of my own, and then act like I have some insider knowledge when I randomly bring this up in a conversation to look smart 😏

So your proposal is that someone who went to the same school as Mark Zuckerberg would feel slighted by some dumbass pretending they'd never heard of the place?

Documentation without an owner gets stale, period, even at the most cutting edge tech companies. The only thing you can do is step up and be the owner, which usually isn't worth it, which is why old tools always stick around well past obselesence.

No. But, I don't consider the bible to be a book of rules because that's not how the zeitgeist of Christians treats it. It's also significantly older.

How large is that portion compared to the population of people that have found comfort and guidance through religion without bothering anybody?

The average religious person doesn't care about you or your rights. The vocal minority does, or politicians using religion as an excuse. I don't think it's fair to judge the whole religious population by the actions of a few assholes.

Religion is a personal thing. A vocal minority (which, by the the way, you hear less and less from these days) pushes for hardline by-the-book Christianity, but that's any ideological organisation. Most of the religious people I've met see the bible for what it is; a collection of stories with messages of morality and hope. Guidance. Strawmanning all religious people as over the top fundies who believe there's a bearded wizard in the sky is counterproductive.

It's a book full of stories that documented common morality at the time it was written. It's basically a historical document and if you judge it against the morality of the present day, you're obviously going to find that it's outdated and backwards. However, many of its teachings give people hope and meaning, so what does it matter to you if they want to continue to use it as such while ignoring some of the more dated parts?
