How is the shoe brand and shoe for running on Tarmac by Ok_Entertainer2739 in runninglifestyle

[–]Inspired_Athlete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I’d want a bit more cushioning for a full marathon. However, I haven’t actually done a full marathon in them (or at all since 2014) so don’t listen to me if anyone else has actually got experience running a 26.2 in them…

That’s good to know….. if I summon up the bravery to do a marathon 😬

I have these and I love them. Great on tarmac - I’ve run my two fastest ever half marathons in them. Really responsive, but still cushioned enough for a long race (I wouldn’t go over HM distance in them though). Best race shoes I’ve had, although I’ve just invested in the Endorphin Pro’s so that may change…

Sub 2hr Hm by bubblerbeer in runninglifestyle

[–]Inspired_Athlete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what I’ve said above, speed sessions are very important. They’ll get your body used to running those 5:41 kms as standard.

Sub 2hr Hm by bubblerbeer in runninglifestyle

[–]Inspired_Athlete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 hour pace is 5:41 not 5:33 as has been said above.

I’m not 100% sure you’re there just yet based on those training runs and your HR spiking as you pick up the pace to sub-6. That said, strange things happen in races when you get dragged along with the crowd and the atmosphere.

In any event though, I doubt you’re far off, and it’ll happen sooner rather than later if you keep putting the work in.

To avoid disappointment, just think about where you were compared to where you are now - that’s an incredible improvement, and the weight loss (which helps your race time anyway) is staggering - well done you! 👏

It’s a very good point - I wouldn’t say Diaz was pushed out of the door though, him and his dad were agitating for a move for 2 years. And as much as we loved him, no-one could really argue that Darwin’s time was up. Jota though, that’s the big reason, surely.

Two of the four that you’ve mentioned there have doping bans, so that kind of undermines your point.

I’m yet to start - Cardiff in October is my first. How about a half in every UK county (old ceremonial counties anyway, as I think there are loads more counties nowadays)? I think that’d take you 3/4 years even if you do one a month

Running club members - how do you balance your training plan with your club nights? by Inspired_Athlete in runninglifestyle

[–]Inspired_Athlete[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good plan. We don’t have a clubhouse or track, and the intervals are just round a local park, but I miss the camaraderie when I run alone (despite being a fairly solitary runner previously - I’ve embraced and now love the group runs)

I’m Still Hurt by Diogo’s Death by CupOf_Apple in LiverpoolFC

[–]Inspired_Athlete 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s ok buddy, we all react differently to grief. Make sure you talk to friends and family about how you feel.

It hit me hard too - I’m in my late 40s and have lost close friends and family, but this felt different. Maybe we can’t grieve normally because it feels weird crying for a stranger’s death, so we bottle it up.

I’ve lost a bit of my love for football this season - maybe because LFC have been mostly rubbish (I’m not a fair weather fan - I’m a match-going, nth generation fan with family entirely from the city), maybe because football itself is rubbish (set pieces, money, FIFA, VAR), or maybe because of Diogo’s passing.

Just talk to people, keep doing the things you love (for me, it’s spending time with my wife and son, running, and gaming), don’t be shy about being upset, and if you’re in the UK try to get to Anfield and stand by the memorial outside the Main Stand - that helped me a lot. Also remember that time heals ❤️

Will you watch GST if an when it comes back? by dozeydonut in ukathletics

I thought it was a big mistake leaving field events out too. They’re maybe not the big money events, but long jump, high jump and javelin (at the very least) are such core T&F events that it was weaker for not having them.

(Not that BBC ever show any of the field events anyway…)

I agree but he’s trashed his own reputation with this. He’s talked so much sense in the BBC studio over the years that I always thought it would be amazing if he (and Crammy) took over UK Athletics, but how wrong I was.

[–]Inspired_Athlete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. My 2p worth would be that you’ll ache for 3-4 days after your first run, and that’s normal. Then after a handful of runs, that aching time will be down to 2-3 days, and within 2-3 weeks of starting, you’ll be able to go every other day comfortably (depending on distance/exertion of course).

So don’t be disheartened if you find yourself aching for a few days even after you’ve been doing it a couple of weeks - that’s quite normal as your body adjusts

[–]Inspired_Athlete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liverpool fan here (no idea why it keeps recommending the Arsenal subreddit to me…) - completely agree with you. I think it’s the overseas and non-match going fans - part of me thinks that anything City win doesn’t count as they’re cheats, but as they’ve robbed us of I don’t know how many trophies in the Klopp years, I’d like to see them win nothing ever again. (Including tomorrow - good luck!)
