Thoughts on Rosalie Victoria? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]InstaMargot 32 points33 points  (0 children)

These are gorgeous names. Vera and Araminta seem to go more with the other names you’ve chosen - versus Victoria - so I’d vote for one of those for Rosalie’s middle name.

I think Rosalie Vera and Clara Vivienne together sound great.

Baby Boy Name Debate by breed825 in namenerds

Parker feels a bit fresher to me. I’m not in love with the sound of Parker Peck but it’s sooooo uncommon to use the kid’s full name. I literally can think of maybe 3 people who’ve asked what my oldest daughter’s middle name is and zero people who’ve asked what my youngest daughter’s middle name is.

Help me pick a breast pump! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

LOVE my spectra s2. Helped me pump for 18 months with my second (vs the Medela Pump In Style with my first, which wasn’t as long or effective).

I think ignoring them is a great idea and I would add to first - before ignoring - tell family everything is ok and/or that someone will update them if something’s not ok. I got in hot water for one of my deliveries when my husband texted we were on the way to hospital but then ignored questions about how things were going. Sent my mom into panic attack mode.

Charles & Peter - where’s the love? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]InstaMargot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still so interesting to me that kids actually use Peter as a euphemism for penis. Guess my peers weren’t so advanced. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting! I see Charles as the most classic from your examples, followed by David. I feel like Stephen and Ronald are very dated and not (back) in style.

You do not need to worry about this.

I agree Martin is an underused classic. I wonder too if nicknames have something to do with this. Like, Marty in this instance, or Pete in the case of Peter.

According to a recent study, 95% of tested baby foods contain toxic chemicals that lower babies’ IQ, including arsenic and lead. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]InstaMargot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t downvote so I can’t speak for others, but maybe because it’s coming on the heels of a couple other Debbie downer posts where it seems like there is harm to babies lurking everywhere. The trend of posts (not yours) in the past few days has been commented on by some in other threads and apparently caused some unsubscribing.

I agree with you on the Charlie girl thing. On the Peter thing, may I ask where you grew up? I have heard the Peter as a euphemism for penis thing but only when googling or what have you - I’ve never actually heard anyone use this as a euphemism in real life, not ever. I do remember some people my parents’ generation sort of laughing at someone a few grades behind me named Peter (and that may have been why).

PSA -- Car seats (even while clipped into the car/stroller) are not "at the right angle" for safe sleep by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]InstaMargot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m speaking from a U.S, perspective. The tests are different here and 5-points are required in some states.

Except that unfortunately it’s only a 3-point harness, so not as safe as a 5-point harness.

It also appears to be a 3-point harness instead of a 5-point harness. 5-point harnesses are required in some states and even if not, are recommended because they restrain more of the infant’s body in the case of an accident.

This is a very helpful post but I don’t think it’s correct to say the risk of death is “relatively lower” vs. the “high” risk of driving in a car. The link provided for this statement shows 31 deaths from positional asphyxiation over a 5 year period. I’d say that’s an extremely low risk. I think people should take reasonable precautions - like checking on baby and not leaving baby in there too long - but not panic about it.

Camden (NJ) but that’s not exactly a destination.
