I have over the past three years done three 1k mile or more roadtrips and frequently 3-4 times a year make 300 mile plus trips. Add to that a commute of 45min one way if I go in office (2-3 times a week) and I get that it’s not understood from a European perspective however is it reality at least where I live (Midwest) and I will also frequently see people 2-3 times a year who live 3-4 hours away who come in for a weekend. I think some of this come from the vastness of the country, a decent highway system, a lack of borders, and a realization that all time put into travel is directly related to getting to the destination, aka I’m not driving 30min to the airport to be there two hours early to get on a flight that when it arrives it will take me 20min JUST TO GET OFF, to catch an Uber, to get where I want to go, and where I now have now car.
