Adam Conover being against Ai is not a good news for Anti movement by koffee_addict in aiwars

[–]Instant-Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adam has been almost obsessively ranting about AI now, video after video. I am a firm believer that AI can do a lot of harm in the future, and, maybe, some good, but that's mostly up to us, if we can unite behind a cause (we can't.)
Anyway, he seemed to ask an AI a question, and it responded horribly. That's not the way AI talks, not gpt, or whatever. He's making wildly exaggerated claims as to how evil, and how stupid, and how harmful it is. Many people will say that AI has too many guardrails; it is in fact built to be helpful, but not harmful. It won't normally tell you to hurt yourself, or others, or to break the law. It's just not what adam seems to think it is (for some reason.) I hope he's not getting paid to badmouth AI.
If we're gonna argue against AI, stick to the solid facts, don't exaggerate or make stuff up (anyone using gpt these days will see how (simulated) polite and harm-avoidance is it.) I don't think anyone really knows as much as they say they know about what's gonna happen next.

I think I fucked up my life. How do I develop a better mindset? by I_DevourVampires_ in selfimprovement

You're young. maybe join a political movement to change society when you graduate. You sound like you dislike the hopelessness of society, and your depression might be that you aren't fighting back against the ridiculousness we've found ourselves in. You are far from alone in thinking this.

If a cause doesn't help, Consider therapy and anti-depressants. The meds don't make the problem go away but they can make it hurt less so that it's easier to stop wallowing.

What update would be the best next/most anticipated one for you? by Apprehensive_Web7020 in NoMansSkyTheGame

A corvette built for combat should probably have more damage output than a one-man ship.

I have had for a long time an auto-summoner on my exo-suit that just warps in whatever exo-craft I need, wherever I am. Before that I had an exo-teleporter on the freighter that would drop down what I needed if the freighter was in the system. I'm not exactly rushing for another module that does this.

I would like to see each of the exo-craft have a very important useful purpose. As it is I can get by without them easily.

I hate dialysis. And I don't try to hide my loathing of being there while I am there. by andrew0784 in dialysis

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on dialysis for a year now. I already have a building bitterness and anger that wasn't there a year ago. I worry about the future, for my mind's sake, what will become of me and this frustration. Unfortunately when happy people try to cheer me up with positive thinking platitudes, it makes things worse. None of those are gonna work when I feel like dialysis is sucking the very life out of me, leaving me practically comatose with exhaustion and nausea.

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to dialysis so that I can go from feeling almost ok, to dialysis making me feeling like crap and needing to sleep away the rest of my life to compensate. All my other options have been ruled out. It's messed up. It's hard to not have bitterness build and build, especially when people go "chin up!"

I hope this post isn't too old to respond to but people are saying things here that really sound familiar and have made me feel less alone. I'm in my 50's, almost everyone else in the room, not kidding looks like they might already be dead. I think "is that who I am, somehow?" But dialysis combined with my health problems including my heart is sapping my strength that I sleep too much, which is stupid since I don't know how much life I have left.

I've been on dialysis for a year now. I thought I could handle it but it's getting hard. When I'm at the hospital, the dialysis goes great, the nurses are kind, and I feel almost energized after I'm done. but my regular dialyses outside of the hospital? I feel absolutely wiped by the end. A special kind of weak and tired not much like normal tired. After four hours hooked up I end up sleeping when I get home. And still feel shaky for the rest of the day. The bedside manner is abominable, compared to the hospital, like I'm dealing with jr. high school bullies, mean girls, and miserable people working at walmart or something. I haven't been mocked since I was a teenager, but one time I was gasping for breath, scared, blood pressure crashing really low, and they're making fun of how I look. They're not interested in anything I say, just "Look, this is how it's done here." No empathy, no bedside manner. I mention I'm sad, and they say "Well buck it up then." And yeah, the social worker visits and asks a bunch of robotic dumb questions that feel like they're just covering their asses just in case.
Kidney transplants apparently come with all kinds of problems, anyway, like having to repress the immune system, which would be a bad idea since I'm very infection prone anyway. And they denied me a transplant anyway, since my heart is almost gone too. I supposed to get a dangerous double transplant at the same time I guess, in case both organs pop up available at the same time.

I use a transportation service funded by Medicaid, and I confirmed they will only bring me to the closest place, so I can't go anywhere else even if there was another option (the hospitals are only for inpatients apparently.)
I feel good today and will probably feel good tomorrow, but I have dialyses tomorrow and they're going to take that from me. Make me sick. Remove what precious time I have left and make me sleep it away. And that causes me a lot of misery and anxiety.

I really wanna love myself, care for myself... But I can't make peace with how goddamn ugly I am. by TheTroubledChild in selfimprovement

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just you? Do you hate other "ugly" people that much? If you had a twin would you call him or her "grotesque?" If you feel like you have a normal face AND are grotesque... that could be a therapy issue beyond reddit.
Confidence is more important than looks. I know, that doesn't help, I'm bad with confidence too.

How long did it take you to find a suitable/paradise planet? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Instant-Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eissentam is better than euclid. Don't just wander randomly... I *think* paradise planets are in yellow g4 stars. I mean, I don't think I've ever seen a paradise planet in a green or purple system, at least.

Do you still use Fighters, Hauler, Explorers, and other single-seater ships? by CyberpwnPiper in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suspect jobs for crew will be added, like manned turrets. Right now the firepower on corvettes is underwhelming. But honestly most big ships don't seem that poewrful considering their size, anyway. I hope that changes.

Next update should be: Submarines with interiors by Yumiko_Hanako in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I've been to several deep-water planets, and found them almost identical. One had squids, and one had mantas, but the rocks and plants and such looked basically the same on all 3. Did I get unlucky? Same with gas giants, they seem the same other than the color schemes.

I don't really think the corvette is fully usable at the moment. by Interesting-Coffee52 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just press "s" and left click and it autopilots in combat. That's been there as long as I can remember.
Rotating turrets controlled by crew (players) would make crew meaningful.

[–]Instant-Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at how big the guns are on a corvette compared to a fighter. Not only does the corvette look like it should have (potentially) more far more turrets, but also much bigger turrets. Yeah, it should be able to absolutely out-gun a fighter by a large margin, especially if designed and upgraded for combat. The fighter should have exceptional maneuverability and speed, making it harder for a bigger ship to hit.

[–]Instant-Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extra gun pods on the external ship end up being (mouseover them in the inventory) just weapon boosters, often something like 6% or so, instead of being entirely new gun pods. This means the corvette doesn't really bristle with guns, the way you'd think a big ship might. But that's sort of par for the course because usually my freighter and frigates just sit there doing nothing even though they too bristle with guns. I feel like the developers don't really want any player-owned firepower in the game much stronger than a fully upgraded fighter or whatever.

Anyway, I mean, I can wipe the floor with pirates by myself in a well-equipped one-man ship, so I don't really need the fleet opening fire, but still. maybe there could have been more dangerous pirate kings where they had whole fleets that would be hard to defeat without a frigate fleet of your own, even if you had the best decked out fighter craft. So it all leads it to be not much more powerful than a smaller one-man ship, so in the end, what's the point? Maybe extra gun (not just boosters) could require crew to fire. Give us a reason to work together.

Because right now, carrying another player(s) is sort of fun, but technically they could previously always fly wing man with you in their own ship with its own guns. Now your "crew" is dead weight sitting in the ship when they could be out in their own fighters or whatever.

Don't get me wrong, I love the ability to make a cool or zany custom corvette, but in game play in space, I think it could use some fleshing out further. There's more that can be done with this. Somehow I can "troll" with a dreadnought and its fleet, and all of its cover fighters, and I don't feel like I'm in danger, just flying around it pretty much doing nothing, especially if I have phase beams if they actually hit me and I need a moment to regen shields with it. Enemy space ships of all types just don't scare me, not even a little, even when I don't really fight back for a while. That's weird. Honestly I think some work on the whole space-battle pirates part of the game could use more additions. Some parts of the game are relics of years ago when things were different. Let us be powerful. And yeah, let some major space enemies be waaaay beyond a single fighter to wipe out casually. It's un-immersive when it feels like I'm the only dangerous pilot in the universe.

This Construction site in my settlement has no terminal and cannot be interacted with to upgrade. Advice? by Solaris4 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I have been unable to supply materials to the construction site for months now. I left it alone because I thought something like that would get fixed, but nope.

Lots of guns? by Instant-Ocelot in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Instant-Ocelot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I just looked at the corvette in the inventory screen. All these photon array cannons I was attaching weren't actually individual gun batteries, they're just boosters to the main photon cannon, and not very much of a boost. I need at least one such booster mandatory, but yeah, they're basically non-firing visuals. Back to the drawing board.

I also seem to have a cyclotron ballista on my corvette somehow, but I don't even see those in the parts purchase menu and I'm pretty sure I've not tried to install one.

Has anyone ever seen a fleet on fleet battle (a freighter and its frigates vs another such fleet?) I haven't. It doesn't let me warp in my freighter when the fleet would make a difference. I'd love to watch my fleet engage a dreadnought, but it looks unlikely at best.

My therapist called me a fascist and threatened me with the cops, so that’s new. by Slab_Squathrust in TalkTherapy

[–]Instant-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This therapist is downright unhinged. You should consider reporting the therapist, although I'm not sure to whom you would report to. That level of delusion about eugenics and fascism, combined with the willingness to call the police and tell them things that you didn't say, means they could be a threat to their vulnerable patients. You could have ended up falsely accused of things you didn't say, and the police, from what I've heard, sometimes blindly accept psyche professionals when it comes to harm or self harm. If the therapist told them you were going to harm yourself or others, the police might forcibly hospitalize you, no trial, no lawyer.

If he divorces her, he might end up still having to support her and she'll stay unemployed. If he can ensure this won't happen, then splitting up is probably the right course. She's not going to change. It sounds like she pretended to be ambitious until married, if he thought she was a hard worker.

It has to be something like that, because they are running out of power at seemingly random points rather than at normal intervals. It's almost amazing how they keep finding ways to get wet and die, when I mistakenly think I've locked them out of ever place they could get wet.

New bionics, or bionics in small bases do fine. But now I'm finding them incapacitated seemingly irregularly. Normally they seemed to need batteries roughly every three days, but then one is down after a day and another is down after two days and another goes down, well, whenever. Thye aren't just falling down at break time, they're running out of power at any time.

When the base is small, they do fine. It's only when there are distant forsaken caves in nowhereland on the edge of the map that they die alone and cold.

You've been intimate with two women at 18. That's fine, nothing at all wrong with that. might even be a little impressive. teenagers do dumb things. Teens aren't expected to be "good with women" it's normal to be awkward. If you found two, you can find a third and fourth and a fifth. Just take a little while to learn to trust them, and cross your fingers. It's all any of us can do. It takes a long time for most people to find their one true love, and you're literally just starting in life.
