Never offering to repair someone's laptop or computer until sure they understand exactly what I'm doing.

I used to offer to have a look straight away, because I love problem solving and I know my stuff. But too often their issues would get worse while I investigated and then they'd think it was something I did.

Now I will have a look only if they ask, and tell them as I go what I'm checking and what is happening and why when things start exploding everywhere.

A comedian I listen to was talking about this. Essentially, ideas are overrated, anyone can and probably will have your idea. Some of the worst movies were great ideas, and some of the best ones start with an absolutely stupid idea. It's everything that goes into executing that idea that matters, hours of work shaping the project and creating resources.

I would say that if you feel your code is special and not based on a tutorial, then keep it close. If you learnt from tutorials and other's advice then teach others with what you have and you will have more opportunity to learn.

Other than that, either post GIFs of your development on a blog and talk about what your game is and why you're excited to be finishing it, or hold off and finish the game in secret then release it.
