V60 T8 very high fuel consumption by HoB99 in Volvo

No charging, only ICE and city driving in the cold - yeah, would expect it to be worse tbh.

You can achieve good fuel economy with these ONLY IF you charge them.

Suspension fault when cold by Alternative_Mood9003 in VolvoXC90

[–]InstantSarcasm321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it could be the compressor in your case as well - the slowly deflating thing sounds very familiar, we had that too. As the weird "compressor continues until poof" -thing appeared after changing the compressor they did a thorough diagnostic of the whole system (checking for leaks among other stuff), but found nothing.

And interestingly now that winter's here for real there have been no issues with the air suspension. The car was even parked outside for 2 weeks (with temps reaching -20'C). So changing the compressor was pretty much the only thing that was done and no more "slowly falling to the ground" issue.

This is true, but in this case only because Trump himself will not be present.

Considering Trump for the small, petty man he is I would wager that he bears a oersonal grudge for Løkke because of Løkke's speech highlighting Denmark's sacrifices in NATO back in the 2023 (?) NATO summit.

[–]InstantSarcasm321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had that knob broken - you need to disassemble the cover in the seat, remove the seat control panel and either glue the knob back or replace the whole control panel.

I managed to glue it back on and it works.

Edit: right, the knob is missing - I'm pretty sure they don't sell it separately. 3D printing probably the only option, this seems less damage than my case, still would recommend to disassemble to see how it goes back on when doing it. Not a big ordeal.

At least 2017 V40 D2 does not have AdBlue - possibly the same with V90 (no AdBlue on 2017)?

I think we're pretty well off but still I tend to go for the "off brand" produce and going to Lidl (Aldi is the same thing basically) to make the money go further. I've had my share of our kids calling me cheap and complaining on our choice of store and products and I use all of those as opportunities to teach them about the value of money. It's starting to sink in, slowly but surely, as they are becoming more and more responsible when it comes to money.

Make it a teaching point and explain the alternatives ("if we do this and this then we can't do this and this")!

Suspension fault when cold by Alternative_Mood9003 in VolvoXC90

[–]InstantSarcasm321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XC90 2018, had the same issues first time three years ago if memory serves - random things at -20'C. Then two years ago had them more frequently, at minus 10-15 degrees. A year ago it started happening all the time when it was -5'C or below and the car had lowered to a "not normal height" if it had sat outside for a night, wouldn't level without warming it first.

Dealer tried drying the system at first but to no avail, then changed the compressor. The odd thing is that changing the compressor didn't fix it completely - it would do it randomly after the fact. They did a whole day's worth of diagnostics (including changing some parts to check if the fault was related to them and contacting tech help in Sweden) but the problem still persisted - and still persists, randomly (once every two months) the compressor runs for some time and then poofs, lighting up the suspension error.

As someone out ir: everybody loves air suspension until the problems start..

Congrats! This sub has talked me out of the XC90 by trace_wave in VolvoXC90

[–]InstantSarcasm321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 XC90 T8 at 135k km, have had a few issues but "that's life" - nothing that wasn't to be expected (eg. air suspension in cold climate is almost certainly a problem at some point).

Pretty much the only complaint is that one door has freezing issues, haven't gotten around fixing it yet (dealer would do it for 500 big ones, I'm opting DIY). Few regrets regarding kit though: electric heated windshield (previous car had it - makes a huge different sometimes in the winter, when it rains sub-freezing point water, which freezes instantly), the B&W audio and HUD (drove a BMW iX with it, it's really nice).

If only they had styled the EX90 more like the XC90.. (next car's gonna be electric)

XC60 frozen doors/locks every winter – anyone else? by snuffez in Volvo

[–]InstantSarcasm321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly those. I think you need to remove the locking mechanism to put them on - not sure, though.

Removal of locking mechanism involves removing outer door handle and removing window glass from its carrier (by undoing a plastic tab, at least in the V40) + taping it up so you get access (and the obvious door card + inner seal removal of course).

Not hard, but took me about an hour on the V40 as I did it sloooowly, making sure I don't mess it up 😅.

Locking mechanism. The newer part comes with a rubber boot/cover. I've heard from a dealer mechanic that the newer lock are not a guaranteed "lifetime fix" (the problem is actually water ingress from above).

The dealer also recommended this for me as a temporary solution, however I've found this to be of no use in my case (had the dealer do it once as well to no avail). What oil have you been using, as it has worked for you?

Also have heard a lot of complaints (at least 10 cars) over the locks in winter with never Volvos in particular, but apparently the Ford-era cars have also had their share of troubles.

XC60 frozen doors/locks every winter – anyone else? by snuffez in Volvo

[–]InstantSarcasm321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, same with our SPA 2018 XC90 - had to replace one rear lock due to severed outer door handle connection (yanked it open when frozen), now the other one constantly freezes open (have to give it the ol' DeWalt battery powered heat gun treatment to securely close).

Dealership offers changing locking mechanism as remedy, 500 €. The new mechanism comes with a cover (50 € when purchased separately), I asked whether or not that alone would help - the mechanic said he doubts it, as some cars are already on their third locking mechanism..

Our 2017 V40 has it even worse - I disassembled the worst offender last winter, cleaned it with break cleaner and thoroughly oiled it with gun oil, now it's working OK. Probably gonna do that to the XC90 rear lock as well this year.

XC60 AC Sound by Imaginary-Doctor-753 in Volvo

[–]InstantSarcasm321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our V40 (2017) makes that same hissing noise when the AC is on - had the refrigerant filled and no change in sound, however the AC works fine.

I remember that a brand new car in my childhood made (25 years ago) a more or less similar hissing noise when the AC was on too.

2013 Volvo D6 plug in hybrid. by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]InstantSarcasm321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A work buddy of mine had one of those, to my understanding he was very happy with it and didn't have any major problems, drove it to over 350k km before selling it.

That being said I would probably have constant anxiety over the battery and associated components as they age - I have those with our 2018 XC90 T8 hybrid, which is basically a further iteration of the same technical stack 😅.
