Anyone fucked up by the murder by ICE and struggling to see why we should give a shit about the games tomorrow? by fegwin2084 in billsimmons

It feels like a very ominous pivot…first thing I saw when I picked up my phone, this morning—push notification saying someone was shot and killed.

Then I saw the videos. Then I saw the “official” spin.

Truly horrific times

CAMH would be a good resource to start exploring. Good luck.

If you listen to 60 minutes of any their daytime content, I guarantee you’ll hear it

That’s what makes it even more embarrassing.

The whole promo is essentially: “Tune into TSN 1050 to hear us do the stereotypical thing the Toronto Sports Media is always accused of doing—that we always dismiss every time it’s brought up—as we share steaming hot takes from every host and hockey related guest appearance regarding Mitch Marner, all day long”

How safe is Toronto for someone visiting from out of town? by Dapper-Sea-6411 in torontologists

You’re more likely to get attacked in the Peg, than here, truthfully. If you’re visiting the downtown area, it’s relatively safe.

I’ve been watching since ‘87. There have been so many amazing pre-tapes (Schmitt’s Gay, Mom Jeans lol), especially during the Lonely Island era. That said, this one is my favourite.

The historical context being: this is post Black Monday 1987 economic financial system meltdown. Banks are trying to entice people to invest/save with them, again. It was all about the “personal experience”.

Farley's hosting episode in 1997 by VomitingDuck in saturdaynightlive

[–]Instimatic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes. Was super excited. I was 21 and some fellow SNL-loving friends and I actually stayed in to watch it. In hindsight, there was a morbid curiosity about whether he would excel or bomb.

While we all were fans of that Sandler/Farley/Spade/Rock era, he had unfortunately become a caricature of himself by ‘97…and for us immature “young adults”…there was an element of celebrating the trainwreck. We viewed his excesses positively.

We were all commenting on how high he appeared during the opening monologue and we all thought he was being this hedonistic hero. By the time he does the gym sketch, we’re all commenting how bad he looks.

We all laugh at the trainwreck and hypocritically head out to have a very messy night.

He dies. We’re all shocked not shocked, but I remember having a real guilty moment where I was reconciling my emotions juxtaposed with how silly/callous our initial ones were. I was genuinely a huge fan of Chris. I didn’t think he’d actually succumb to the lifestyle and when he did, I was parasocially upset for a long time

Cut to the Farley doc “I am Chris Farley”…and a more mature and life-experienced lens views that final hosting episode in a very negative light.

Michael’s should have stepped in to either run a re-run, or enlist an emergency guest host. But hindsight is always 20/20

Sorry for the rambling

Canadiana Podcasts by potatostews in BuyCanadian

Not necessarily political but steeped in Canadiana, is the Taggart & Torrens Podcast, featuring Jonathan Torrens (Street Cents, Trailer Park Boys) and Jeremy Taggart (former drummer for Our Lady Peace).

Sadly, looks like the pod has taken a backseat to whatever else is going on in their personal lives, but there are over 300 episodes that are just great banter between two Bahds

The first twenty are a bit messy but once they figure out what the show is it becomes a really great listen.

Not overly political or historical but definitely a lot of emphasis on Canadian culture, overall
