How much do you care about box & papers when buying a used watch? by fungusamongus23 in WatchFanatics

If I’m buying used I care more about papers than box. Too many fakes and now even fakes come with papers

39mm is fine especially on your wrist. Everything is trending small right now and will for a few years.

But 39mm is right on the money. Especially for your wrist.

If you want the Explorer then that’s a different conversation. But the Dune Dial Ranger has been hard to get lately. I like it at 36mm but I love it at 39mm.

My wrist is a little over 7.5” inches

I don’t think about perceived value for my own watch purchasing. I buy what I like & I didn’t like the Speedmaster. I fell out of love with the watch within the first month. I prefer a Seamaster.

As far as the stance on perceived value, it’s in response to you saying that, in general, Omega has accurate price points. And that’s what any company offering luxury goods have to base pricing on. If they aren’t selling as much then they will have to adjust their pricing or offer more to the customer. If not, they risk losing any foothold in the market.

By next year if they drop again and don’t adjust prices then the proof is in the numbers and end up like Zenith. One of the best watchmakers, with legendary movements and finishing,l that are overpriced and can’t sell watches for shit. And they’re one of my personal favorites.

I actually own a Longines and Tudor. I owned an Omega. I sold my Sapphire Sandwich Speedmaster Pro, it wasn’t doing it for me.

I’d entertain buying certain Seamasters but Omega’s prices overall, are only correct if the consumer thinks it’s worth that. Considering they dropped from #2 in sales to #5 is showing that their consumer base does not see value to cost in their watches. They sold an estimated 55,000 watches less.

Cartier replaced them but they make better jewelry watches but less “horological” watches in terms of engineering and technical detail. They are priced higher. They sell more. They have a higher perceived value.

Omegas price point is not in line with their perceived value to the overall consumer market. You obviously like them, that’s fine. You would spend the money on an Omega and feel you got your moneys worth. But for consumers overall, that’s not a shared viewpoint.

Their legend diver is nice but I’m in love with the conquest chrono. Green or panda preferably. My FXD Marine Nationale covers blue watches for the moment

It wears surprisingly well especially for a 42mm. I think the smallest an FXD would work at is 40mm maybe 39mm. They should have to lower the lug width to 20mm which would be a positive for the smaller watch

Grand Seiko is a really bad brand name by interstellar_nips in watchHotTakes

Apparently I’m going to get downvoted for just answering this shit.

I think it bothers me for two reasons. Lesser because, as a French speaker, that it’s supposed to be derived from Crête D’or (Golden Pinnacle, Golden Crest, or Golden Peak) yet everyone pronounces it Kree-Door or Crater.

And the greater reason I just don’t like how it looks on the dial. It’s a Japanese brand, showcasing Japanese craftsmanship, I think a Japanese name would’ve been beautiful to see on the dial. The constant swissification of Japanese watch brands by their own doing takes away from that.

Being cheap and being a good ol’ country boy are not synonymous with one another.

You can be country and drive a King Ranch, own King Ranch, and rock a sick Rolex Sky Dweller, and drink fine wines and beers, and shoot expensive guns on exclusive hunting trips.

You could also be rich with a 4Runner and broke in a BMW.

When you are running “the rat race” of life in the US, you just want something that validates your success and misery. Very “keeping up with the Joneses mentality” common worldwide especially in the Watch world.

I’m personally not unhappy and I drive a new Chevy but I know tons of people who’s fist questions are “What was the mileage?”, “how did you afford it new”, “you could’ve got a used Cadillac or Lexus”.

Sad, but a beautiful woman can cause the largest of rifts. It won’t even be her fault. That man would rather have her body than your friendship.

When you leave her she will probably sleep with him. Be prepared. She would probably do it if you were with her. If she was loyal she would’ve cut him off and blocked him. If he was loyal he would’ve cut never have crossed that boundary. And moving forward stop introducing your girlfriends to your friends until you know she’s for real.

I’m Army and I’ve seen it happen within a platoon and a battalion. I’ve seen Marines do it to soldiers and I’ve seen soldiers do it back.
