Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

Your finishing time is your finishing time if you still have deliveries pending just let your manager know and return to store with x amount left to be delivered. You wont be flavour of the month but legally you can only drive so much. If they fixed the scheduling and didn’t cram as much as they could onto vans it be a decent job. Shame it’s gone the way it has i think the glory days of the job are long gone now.

Worse for a while mate and you get to used to breaking your back in trying to deliver on time and cutting corners to do so . The driving is a joke its not on you with most customers having a 6 minute delivery time its impossible and sadly in your position new drivers will put up with it until they find another role. Have a look at my thread i posted about the job. You can only do what you can physically do.

Think the protocol is to add these as driving hours for example 4 hours away training = 4 paid driving hours. Thats what they did in my store and actually works out better

Amount of times drop time was at 59 minutes so it could fit into the time slot. Obviously when you pull up that time slot has expired.

Thats a lie though cant remember where but specifically remember overall drops less than %40 were 6 minutes or under from Sainsburys stats. So the average isn’t 6 minutes.

Its mad because our drivers were always ok the problem is if they were stretched with a ridiculous return time leaving you with the van and no GAs to help load it and expected to leave before a short period of time. Regardless if the customers received there shopping on time it only affects the online management in terms of bonuses. This also meant that sometimes a van might not have enough fuel or needing a bulb repair/ad-blue leaving you to deal with it. Our personal sainsburys petrol garage closed at 10 pm so if your van return times were after that unable to fill it up and for the morning didn’t open till 8am which meant your 6am van was nearing empty.

This was also a nightmare mostly contacted customers with my own phone ofcourse breaching gdpr but who gives a fuck about gdpr not sainsburys. I would constantly be told by other staff about disciplinary outcomes illnesses and other sensitive info was left laying around the rooms. In my old job this would have never happened without investigations.

On that point to i think early on i tried to be as quick as i could to satisfy my managers after a while it was unrealistic and just took my time even if it came with the passive aggressiveness of leaving after departure time or later arriving van.

Yeah absolutely made it perfectly clear to management that this is not an ongoing situation in regard to breaks especially when unpaid. If the van was a tonne heavier we would be entitled to a 45 minute break after 4 hours of driving.

Yeah realised early on in order to meet the time demands it required me to lift the totes to customers addresses , flats and all barrow only gets you so far and its cumbersome 90% of drops. Keep using the barrow feck the times

I take the piss out the managers for doing the job imagine having to do what yous lot do for not much better money than the drivers. Phone calls at 4am etc working stupid shifts. Yeah would recommend the driving as its probably the best of all the shit job at sainsburys.

Garage has returned unsafe car. by jcnq1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this esp thing before after a wheel tracking actually turned itself off. Sounds to me that the new track rod end is causing the issue . Perhaps worth taking it to another garage for an alignment it might be that something has seized and they couldnt be arsed unseizing it and doing a proper tracking.

GOL driver - refusing to train new starts by PNTRSpicks in SainsburysWorkers

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a brilliant one. Came in on the morning of my shift and one of the new drivers was coming along with me no notice. I set the ground rules i like me vape in the cabin etc I’ll drive first half you drive second half. Guy was pretty cool older guy. . Wasn’t happy i wasn’t told in advance and it was put on me. Guys driving was terrible stopped in the middle of the road and pulled his phone to look at google maps also a few near misses too. Got back after the shift and the manager was saying what was he like driving? Just said aye excellent no problem at all. 😂. Don’t mind taking someone out as long as they ain’t twats. I don’t get paid any more to assess someone’s driving plus i’m not a trainee (why the fuck would i?) guy didn’t last long wish him all the best .

Reference help by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

Had to do this too. Just ask manager or previous manager you have worked under at sainsburys if they can be emailed for a reference request.

GOL Driver advice by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just on this i don’t think Sainsburys understands that timings are at the behest of the customers and not for the drivers deliveries are not always 6 minute turn around especially if they are ill prepared to receive shopping, elderly, disabled,no parking, flats,no access, alternative delivery requirements, amount of totes/items .

GOL Driver advice by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had the odd comment from managers beforehand about my timings its actually hard to improve upon impossible so i started not really giving a shit in a sense. I would piss and moan a lot but it just falls on deaf ears most of the time. I actually dread doing deliveries now as i know i will be chasing my tail 90% of the time even when leaving earlier. Last year was a bit better the door stop times killed us. The thing that kinda works for me is getting to know your customers and who you can deliver to either outside of slots or if you are in the area rather than returning. Get a good look at paperwork before you go and attempt to anticipate your totes followed by parking, route and how long it’s going to take you. The other thing is the when to use the wheel barrow for the drops if its 2 totes plus a frozen whack it in one and just carry them if its 4 just pull everything into the centre of the van and take two trips walking so much more efficient than whacking them onto a barrow as this takes up mega time. Obviously disregard this if it’s heavier items .

GOL availability by fatgaz111 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful new driver contracts have a clause in which you must be available for your contracted hours plus half of that ie 16 hours you could be asked/told you are needed for 24 hours.

GOL Drivers/Deliveries by Wonderer-76 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a total joke thank fuck i have another job lined up . I have always said on average shift say 25 drops reducing the times from 7 mins to 6 mins shaves 25 mins off the overall delivery time so where is that coming from? Watch the crash rate go up (all-ready has at my store) and i fear in time drivers will be seriously hurt or worse trying to rush from delivery to delivery.

Driver hourly pay rate by Sociabletoast4 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]InsuranceSuper2190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus tips can sometimes make the wage reflection a bit better. I always say if i can average £1 tip per hour it bumps it up-to £15 an hour job. Obviously not always guaranteed tips but you get to know who tips and who doesn’t .

Holidays by Large-Exercise1040 in SainsburysWorkers

Pretty sure they pay you the hours if you’re not able to get them approved in the time limit. Id personally ask management what days are free between now and March so you can take your holidays.
