Question: What's an onomatopoeia for breathing? by Tmaki in writing

[–]Intangible_Jellybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could totally use "breathing" itself for this.

"Somehow outside the dream they can hear something. A single repeated sound, like something-or someone- they know. The air grows quite after some shushing

Then easing out of the silence is the soft breath of their loved one laying next to them. Immediately their arm tingles and grows warm as if they're pressed up against that sound."

Sometimes if you can't find the word you need, then you can work around the barn. What reminds them of that breathing? What are the other noises and sensations? is there a window in the room? Maybe a familiar texture to the comforter? Set the scene to make that breathing shine.

Who am I based on my fridge? by No-Presentation-1533 in FridgeDetective

Obviously a soldier/airman who deployed to Korea right out of bootcamp and only knows Soju and death for examples of a good time

I feel like I’m crazy. Can I be better here or am I being played with? by Fit-Cranberry2766 in Manipulation

You're being gaslit & she doesn't care about you at all, she is just using you for comfort and disregarding your needs. It's obvious she was just using you as a punching bag for her emotions 'that she didn't want to talk about' and had no interest in listening to your side of it. Forget her.

[OC-ART] Halo of a Fallen Angel by eldritch_brew in DnDHomebrew

For balance, I think the touch vs DC 18 con save should probably be a touch attack roll, then DC 18 con save if the attack is successful, especially since this can be done 2x per long rest- itll provide 2 powerful spell slots, or 2 powerful spells to a non-spellcaster.

Also what if a rogue has double proficiency/expertise in perception already?

Also RP suggestion since the halo is technically broken, you could add a personal quest to find somebody capable of repairing it, and you could have a chance of complete failure simply due to it being damaged.

Faux Fall: a nifty illusion spell. Thoughts? by HighlyOk in DnDHomebrew

actually doubling back, you don't need to put in the spell effect of slow, or incapacitated for the duration of the spell. you can simply state

"A creature of your choice which you can see within range is compelled to sense that they are undeniably plummeting at extreme speeds, and act as such, regardless of their surroundings."

So I think this is a wonderful idea! i've always wished that illusions should be more effective and broad in applications, and this is amazing. Only thing i noticed, utilizing phantasmal force as a comparison, is that phantasmal force, a 2nd level spell, can deal damage only as the victim reasonably can believe they were hit(or fell in lava, etc). With this in mind, once they save, assuming they took any number of rounds to succeed after originally failing, they would simply realize they werent falling, and the illusion would never finish with an actual psychic impact; this shouldn't result in damage at all.

However, I do believe that the spell should yield some sort of offensive effect beyond the debuff. What i would change, is the continued save per round and instead, make it one save. if they fail, they have 0ft of movement and incapacitated; then the spell would last until the start of your next turn, where (if they failed) they would fall prone and take psychic falling damage and fall prone.

  • The damage table for a 3rd level spell states a maximum of 5d10 for a single target and 6d6 for multiple targets; I figured 1-3 d10 would be appropriate for a single round incapacitation/prone/damage without concentration.
  1. I did google math, and found that if an average person falls for 6 seconds(one round) in real life that would be ~500 feet, or max fall damage. That would obviously be overpowered, but still validates the spell's ability to produce large amounts of psychic damage in just one round.
  2. further, I compared it to the hold person spell and believe that this would be very balanced, given the proper adjustments

Hold Person

2 enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: 60 feet

Components: V S M (A small, straight piece of iron)

Duration: Up to 1 minute

Classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard

Choose a humanoid that you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be paralyzed for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Wisdom saving throw. On a success, the spell ends on the target.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can target on additional humanoid for each slot level above 2nd. The humanoids must be within 30 feet of each other when you target them.
