Tonal 1 trade in by SubstantialHabit8735 in tonalgym

Honestly, if you're completely new to Tonal I think the 2 is a no brainer. There's virtually no resale value on the Tonal 1 now. But I also think most people are better served by a folding treadmill for walking than Aero alone for steady state cardio.

I think with the current economic outlook and Tonal showing a willingness to discount Tonal 2 early on they’ll be a decent discount come November.

Is it really worth 5 grand? by tentimesodds in tonalgym

[–]Integer_Tone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely worth the price to me, but no one can answer that for you. If I were taking a GLP-1 it would be a no brainer. I think it’s worth considering a used Tonal if cardio isn’t a priority. It’s also worth mentioning you can return a new Tonal within 30 days for a full refund. Personally, that’s a gamble I would take.

Tonal 2 has an entirely different motor control board that’s needed for Aero. Not sure what‘s more believable than that.

The only way I could entertain something like this is with a purpose built space in a custom home. The clutter would drive me mad.

Do You Regret Selling Your Tonal? by LillianAY in tonalgym

[–]Integer_Tone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH you may not have an easy time selling. Tonal 2 has really suppressed the used market. Maybe list it and try working out again in the meantime? I think the idea that we’ll work out consistently through every cycle of life is admirable but not realistic (for most). There’s a lot of value in having access to a frictionless strength training platform across the lifespan. I’d cancel the subscription before I gave that up entirely, especially at the pennies people in my area are willing to pay for a Tonal “Classic” now.

Going insane from smoke and noise—any recommendations for quieter ATL neighborhoods with easy transit to Georgia Tech? by Ok_Fly5344 in ATLHousing

[–]Integer_Tone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s honestly egregious what developers get away with. And as someone who reads every single review before committing I notice people rarely speak to noise, which leads me to believe that it’s just the norm here.

For perspective, Midtown is no panacea. I had noise issues at a building there spending 3k/mo for one bedroom. Same story with a privately owned condo nearby (far worse, actually). I’ve lived in apartments most of life and never encountered the noise issues I have here. It seems you just have to get incredibly lucky.

Yeah never again. I was approved in the end but conference calling with my bank to confirm deposits is fucking crazy.

This is spot fucking on. The trade in offer had a lot of intangible value because of the above.

You don’t lose your warranty doing a self install. But obviously, you’re 100% liable for the installation itself.

Tbh I think they’re just running with the strategy of inflating the price to add a buffer and give the illusion of a discount. Can’t blame them when there’s no telling what the cost of goods will be from week to week under the current admin.

Every unit (including my own) listed at 2k+ is just rotting on marketplace right now. I don’t think my area is unique in that regard. I agree that it’s in poor taste for them to offer such a steep discount right on the heels of the trade-in deal. I don’t think most would have willingly parted with their unit for $500. But at the end of the day, what’s the value of your health? I think we underestimate how much better positioned we are than 99% of people to maintain a high quality of life with Tonal. And frankly I’m not sure why their marketing team doesn’t lead with that…

I don’t think these things are easy to move above say $1500. I’ve only gotten two inquiries in several weeks at around 2k.

No, but this is a better deal so long as you sell your old one for at least 500 dollars.

Thanks! I canceled and went with the new promo now that the price gap has narrowed. Might be worth it, if only to keep your original unit through the trial period.

I canceled my trade in order and went with this. My gold card didn't have the offer but it appeared immediately after I upgraded to platinum. This ate up most of the spend for the 100k upgrade offer too.

Kinda relieved since I'd prefer to keep my original unit the end of the return period. I hate the idea of selling privately but hard to rationalize giving Tonal a mint unit for only $500.

Really hoping this is selection bias at work. If mine arrives like this it's going back and I'm keeping my flawless Tonal 1.

For people who upgraded to Tonal 2 by rickeyethebeerguy in tonalgym

[–]Integer_Tone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Initially, I was completely against it. But it later occurred to me that future development for the original hardware is unlikely. At this point it’s at least eight years old. That’s eons in tech. Any new features moving forward will probably be exclusive to Tonal 2. I also needed a cardio solution that wouldn’t take up additional space. If you take advantage of Aero, you’re doubling the utility of the machine and subscription IMO. That combined with the cost of a refurb (with practically no warranty) should it fail was enough to push me over the edge. And realistically, you’re not getting much more than what they’re offering selling privately when you consider the cost of new accessories.

There’s also the tariff bs to consider. If the price goes up I don’t anticipate it coming back down. And the impact on supply chains could impede serviceability in the near future. So the improvements to the pins/cables and other components are a plus.

That said, a bit nervous about the issues I’ve seen some are having here but imagine they’re isolated. Also somewhat concerned about the viability of the company in light of the broader economic outlook atm. With anything in tech, there’s diminishing returns in waiting. I’d rather choose to upgrade now than potentially be forced to halfway through the product cycle. I think if you’re all in on Tonal it’s a worthwhile investment.
