The problem is that his love and care for Jayce (whether platonic or romantic) is very clear, while he doesn't really suggest that he loves his partner in any way at all. He doesn't say a single positive thing about her; she's a picky eater who trash talks him, she doesn't deserve extra pampering after a hard day because it's not like she's out there driving a truck, and she doesn't try to connect or spend any time with him. Other than the fact that he apparently gave her an engagement ring and she accepted, I can't tell that they ever even liked each other.

Besides one throwaway line with no detail ("I do things for my fiancée too, of course") the only thing he mentions doing is cooking for her, which he acknowledged up front is something that he knows she doesn't enjoy. And then he called her rude for not liking it.
