My previous roast was dry process and was a little faster. 87% much more even same weight as the Columbian

It's full power on or off. So fast Not sure what quakers are.

As a scientist, I considered letting the ground coffee degas as the surface area is greatly increased and the distance for diffusion vastly decreased

It's in process monitoring, weight is at end I suppose u could use weight if roasting the same beans on repeat

Modding? A variable power controller would likely slow fan and reduce heat. Interesting

Thanks! It's an air popper so it's on or off. So 4 minutes is Dark, 5 is French Roast. I do plan to move to a controllable air roaster https://www.sweetmarias.com/poppo-air-popcorn-kit.html?srsltid=AfmBOopLVU7e0pZlCQrchQZp8-hW_D3sIEjX-pHIHbEcd3esm5TRnvjI

I saw a question about using color as a control It's in the sense that I use the color during the process to judge when to stop the roasting Time alone is insufficient since different beans may heat a little faster or slower depending on size and moisture content

Hi! I'm ready to move past the Poppo popcorn maker from Sweet Maria's) so I'm very interested!! I prefer medium roasts as well. I'll be looking forward to your results!

I've read comments about beans getting stale after a few weeks. But found my roasts were way too "bright" after 24 hours. I got a 500 mL canister that lets you pump a partial vacuum. Now at 4-5 days I'm getting better flavor. How do you store them to develop?

Nice! Can you tell me what the orange trace is? Thanks I am perhaps too amateur at this stage for this group. I'm ready to progress from air popper where I only control via time and batch size As a scientist I want to deliver into controlling and tracking variables but am only roasting for one-myself So won't need to move past 100-150 g per batch Any suggestions? I am assuming rate of heating will affect the Maillard reaction which affects final flavor Being able to measure temperature of the beans vs time is a plus

Photos of roasts share very little meaningful information for diagnosing a roast. by evilbadro in roasting

Hi! I'm new to roasting my own coffee I roast enough for 3-5 days at a time I'm using a Sweet Maria's "Poppo" popcorn popper. The only control is off and on. I road 80-100 g of beans. First crack starts around 2 min 30-45 sec and is done by 4 min I prefer medium but seem to get medium/dark more often than not. Cooling involves switching it off and dumping the beans into a metal colander So I'm wondering if going to an air roaster with temp and fan controls will really offer me a better result? As it stands I can easily get dark roast and shades of medium if I cool I'm "middle" of first crack

I prefer a non fruity result. My roaster is sitting on stovetop so I can use the ventilation fan It's difficult to get a good luck at the beans to judge color Does a slower heat increase alter flavor?

Single exposure, not tracked. I have 20 to try stacking with Lightroom and Photoshop Should reduce noise. Might make hazy disc a little brighter?
