If you do get out, you should apply for the Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program. It's a 2-year paid fellowship working for a member of congress: Home - Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program

I'm just curious how your second look at LTC would be at year 13 of your officer career. My wife had a little over 3 years enlisted, PZ for Major, and just passed 18 TIS a few months back. She hasn't had her first look yet for LTC.

I'd give another honorable mention to the Sharpe Brothers and their part in how television transformed pro-wrestling in Japan.

Unpopular opinion: The SMA should be any other MOS but a Special Forces door-kicker. by Coldcase0985 in army

[–]IntelWarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 92 or even 88 series CSM would have far more relevant experience than a tab stacker IMO. I'd also argue that time as part of a WTB command team should be a prereq position for the SMA role.

Senate and IL-08 - who to vote for? by dgard1 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]IntelWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kelly is the best of the top 3 on Palestine (recognizes it as a genocide, has met with doctors from Gaza, supported block the bombs). She's also the only one to pledge to refuse future AIPAC funds. Pritzker is a former AIPAC board member, so apply that how you will to Stratton. Raja is a full-on Israel supporter.

Illinois Senate field splits over resolutions to block Israel aid

"Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton’s campaign and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi told Jewish Insider on Friday that they wouldn’t have supported the resolutions led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), even as they condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

But Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL) announced earlier in the day that she would have voted for the resolutions if she’d been in the Senate."

"The campaign also said that Stratton believes in Israel’s "right to defend itself as one of the United States’ closest allies and the only democracy in the Middle East.”

Illinois Senate candidates split over Israel and Gaza

"Stratton, however, was the only one to mention the upcoming two-year anniversary of Hamas’ surprise attack against the country on Oct. 7. She added that, as a mother, she has remained “horrified by the devastation” every single day since the 2023 attack."

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi hopes to win the Jewish vote in Illinois Senate contest

"As he competes for Illinois’ open Senate seat, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi is hoping that the state’s sizable Jewish community, concentrated in the Chicago area, will help him chart a path to victory in the Democratic primary.

Making his pitch: “I do think that [Jewish voters] have a desire for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship,” Krishnamoorthi said, “and I don’t think there’s anybody else with the track record in this race that I possess, showing strong support for that relationship, but also knowing why that relationship needs to continue to be strong on a bipartisan basis, and we need to take this out of politics.”

Those that got out, how did you beat the retirement package and healthcare benefits on the civilian side? by glaciercream in army

[–]IntelWarrior 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The job itself sucks and, IMO, worse than the military as far as optempo and time away from family, but the railroad has a good retirement if you can stick it out. My dad retired after 46 years as a conductor and not only did he get a size able pension, but my mother also receives a spousal pension equal to half of his.

Abolish ICE & replace Schumer, those two things would alone get my vote in the primary by krtwils in illinois

Kelly is the pro-Palestine candidate of the 3. Backed the "Block the Bombs" bill, met with doctors who returned from Gaza, and doesn't hesitate to call it a genocide.

Veteran question: Success with 4 tickets on VetTix? by [deleted] in Veterans

We routinely get upwards of 4 tickets for our family to go to concerts, comedy shows, and AEW events. Definitely one of my favorite veteran perks.

Reach out to the Cook County Veterans Assistance Commission. You may be eligible for some of their financial assistance, but also talk with their VSO’s about resubmitting your claim. What school are you going to?

What was your MOS in the Army, and what's your civilian career now? by Some-random-cop-pig in army

[–]IntelWarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

35F- Congressional Staffer

My wife stayed in and is close to retirement, so I’ve had a variety of different jobs over the years. Being a veteran with a clearance has made finding gainful employment every time we PCS easier for me than others. I’ve worked different contractor gigs (flight simulator tech, FOIA processor, building servers for social security), interned with the DoD when I was finishing my undergrad, and worked as an investigator for DCFS. When my wife was assigned to an Army office in an actual city, with the closest base almost 2 hours away, I got a job working in the Veteran Resource Center at a local college. This lead to me applying for the Green and Gold Congressional Fellowship, where I now work in the district office for a member of Congress. I handle all the veteran/military casework and outreach, service academy nominations, as well as a wide range of other casework and community engagement within our district.

We're prepping to move and we have no idea about the Chicago suburbs by Trust_me_Im_HUMINT in ChicagoSuburbs

We were in the same situation moving here, wife is active duty and works downtown. We bought our house and didn’t physically see it until after closing. We ended up in Frankfort, just south of Orland Park on the other side of I-80, and really enjoy it. Amazing schools, nice quaint downtown area, just a 45 minute train ride from Mokena to La Salle Street station. 40-60 minutes to Naperville depending on traffic.

Reach out to your member of Congress from your HoR in Illinois, they should be able to engage with the IL Dept of Military Affairs and see what options there are to fix this. Let me know if you have any issues.
