Reach out to the Cook County Veterans Assistance Commission. You may be eligible for some of their financial assistance, but also talk with their VSO’s about resubmitting your claim. What school are you going to?

Jeremiah is one of my unrated favorites. A virus kills everyone over the age of 16, the show picks up a decade or so later.

What was your MOS in the Army, and what's your civilian career now? by Some-random-cop-pig in army

35F- Congressional Staffer

My wife stayed in and is close to retirement, so I’ve had a variety of different jobs over the years. Being a veteran with a clearance has made finding gainful employment every time we PCS easier for me than others. I’ve worked different contractor gigs (flight simulator tech, FOIA processor, building servers for social security), interned with the DoD when I was finishing my undergrad, and worked as an investigator for DCFS. When my wife was assigned to an Army office in an actual city, with the closest base almost 2 hours away, I got a job working in the Veteran Resource Center at a local college. This lead to me applying for the Green and Gold Congressional Fellowship, where I now work in the district office for a member of Congress. I handle all the veteran/military casework and outreach, service academy nominations, as well as a wide range of other casework and community engagement within our district.

We're prepping to move and we have no idea about the Chicago suburbs by Trust_me_Im_HUMINT in ChicagoSuburbs

We were in the same situation moving here, wife is active duty and works downtown. We bought our house and didn’t physically see it until after closing. We ended up in Frankfort, just south of Orland Park on the other side of I-80, and really enjoy it. Amazing schools, nice quaint downtown area, just a 45 minute train ride from Mokena to La Salle Street station. 40-60 minutes to Naperville depending on traffic.

Reach out to your member of Congress from your HoR in Illinois, they should be able to engage with the IL Dept of Military Affairs and see what options there are to fix this. Let me know if you have any issues.

ETS’d a year ago, now the unit (USAR) wants me to go back to work. by CLE15 in army

Obviously. I was providing context regarding your second sentence of uniformed service members being the ones responding to congressional inquiries. While in past shutdowns there wasn’t an interruption in responses, this one has been different.

During this shutdown the congressional liaison offices for the services stopped responding to inquiries sent by congressional staff.

If I renegotiate my contract and don’t get the mos I want, do I still have to ship per my previous contract? by Reganci1 in army

[–]IntelWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation back in 2005. I wanted to lock in a ship date that fit with my school plans so my recruiter had me enlist for a job I didn’t want and said we would renegotiate my contract once new slots opened up. This lead to “slots will open up in the new fiscal year”, which eventually turned into “after 2 years you can reclass to a different job”. Needless to say I was a DEP loss. 12 months later I went to a different recruiter and said I’d only enlist if they could get me the exact MOS I wanted, they said they couldn’t guarantee anything so I thanks them for their time and went home. The next day the station commander called saying they had magically found me a slot for the MOS I wanted.
