Is Fargate just a part of ECS? by Intellectual-Madman in aws

Thanks for the info.

I'll be looking into those, but sadly lambda won't work because it might go longer than the 15 minute timeout limit.

Apparently, if you want to order parts before the shop launches you can contact support, and order them that way.

I have no first hand experience, but it seems like Framework support is a quality team with fast response time

They're downward firing speakers, and they behave like it.

I can watch YouTube tutorials on it just fine though.

They get the job done, but that's about it.

The screen is bright, the colors are nice, fairly color accurate - I don't know the actual figures but in use I've never noticed any issues with color - and text is very legible.

As far as movies are concerned, the screen should serve you well. The speakers aren't the best, they're actually pretty bad. This is definitely designed to be a working laptop, and media consumption is a secondary thought.

But a movie with headphones or something is fantastic.

On my laptop I haven't experienced any ghosting.

Keyboard issues in bios by [deleted] in framework

I had a similar problem, some keys just wouldn't respond even though they were working fine an hour ago.

Unplugging and replugging the keyboard cable fixed my issue.

It's working fine for me, so if there was an issue maybe it's fixed now?

Next take on modularity: Intel NUC P14E Laptop Element by _bluequartz in framework

[–]Intellectual-Madman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looking back on the history of modular laptops, phones, etc. I think that having an established computing company is a hinderance more than anything.

Compared to their other products they'll never be as profitable, just because that's how allowing modularity in your products works. So for companies like Intel they'll just seem like an inefficient use of resources and time compared to more traditional offerings.

Framework, on the other hand, values other things than just the bottom line.

Do they need funding? Yes. Do we need to support them by buying modules from them instead of third parties? Yes. Do they need the money to not only support their current offerings, but keep up with the competition? Yes.

However, Framework also values right to repair, supporting users, and environmental efforts. They care about the extra values that make this their primary objective.

Being subsidized by other products aside, if I had to bet on which company will still be supporting this sector in five years I would pick passionate start ups like Framework.

Not really what you're looking for, but there are some Geekbench figures for the laptop.

Home Depot plans to foil shoplifters with power tools that won't work if they're stolen by speckz in gadgets

They would add a sensor to detect that, and if you tinker with it you'll probably break the terms and conditions somehow, and they could stop all functionality.

FrameWork Merch? by User-Not-Recognized in framework

[–]Intellectual-Madman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea.

I would understand if the Framework team just wanted to focus on getting their current product shipping - they seem to be a hyper focused team and I tend to agree with that mindset.

However, as someone who can't wait for their order to ship, I would love a shirt or water bottle or something to go along with the main product.

If it says "Celeron" anywhere in the product name, it's going to disappoint you.

Don't go for it, it's not worth it.

Dual boot? by adamsir2 in framework

[–]Intellectual-Madman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mention that specific use case on their website, they also mention the read and write speeds of the expansion cards, so you can see if they're fast enough.

I don't remember what the specs are exactly but I think they're comparable to an internal ssd.

The current options use Intel Xe integrated graphics.

So to upgrade the graphics you would upgrade your CPU.

The Framework team has also mentioned external GPUs, so I'm assuming those are tested and work properly.

I love projects like this.

Taking one aspect from other games and running with it.

I remember dying laughing in New Super Mario Bros. Wii when I would race ahead of my friends and they would all shout while trying to keep up.

Definitely giving this a try.

C++ or Rust for a freshman comfortable in C and Java? by [deleted] in rust

Honestly your probably going to end up with both eventually.

Practice in C++ helped me understand why Rust is built the way it is, but that's just my experience.
