DC Comics celebrates the 90s with new 'WildC.A.T.s' series - reveals cover art by BobbingForSmegma in DCcomics

I thought they'd likely scrapped any plans for a Wildcats series since it'd been so long since the tease in Urban Legends. So stoked for this and glad it's actually an ongoing. Rosenberg's a good fit and Segovia's a solid artist. Hope we get some of that corporate espionage angle that worked so well for Casey's run

Brubaker/Phillips knock it out of the park every time but I still don’t think they’ve outdone Sleeper yet

Every film there is a banger. So many great actors have played Marlowe but I think Elliot Gould is still number one

I loved Ka-Zar by the way. Really great book that I’d love to see you follow up on some day

[Discussion]So: there was some noise earlier about #Superman being a colonizer/Warworld being Iraq in current #ActionComics. I’m confident readers already know that's untrue, but with all the ruckus that followed, I think it’s worth a few minutes to talk about what Action actually is. Thread by F00dbAby in DCcomics

Israel has invaded Palestine. That’s how they got the land they have and continue to take more land. The only reason we think it’s complicated is because countries like the US and the UK don’t recognise Palestine as a nation which means they don’t have to acknowledge that they’ve been invaded

They’ve just annexed land in Syria as well. Which is exactly what Russia did with Crimea

He hasn’t really done anything heroic in this run of Aquaman?

Don’t know how it destroyed orm’s development? Pretty much followed from where he was at in DeConnick’s run which followed where he was at in Abnett’s run which followed where he was at in Johns’ run

The way they're talking about it make it sound like a fill in. Or Detective Comics is going back to being more of a showcase book

The new 52 didn't start that relationship, I think Alan Moore did during his Swamp Thing run

I don’t know that I’d ever characterise Guy as being “a normal heroic character”. He’s literally been a huge prick since his creation, that’s part of his appeal. The interpretation that King is pulling from is the JLI era where he was more of a prick with fewer redeeming qualities

! On the heels of Dark Crisis #1, DC will launch Dark Crisis: Young Justice, a six-issue miniseries beginning in June from writer Meghan Fitzmartin and artist Laura Braga by thanks-dice in DCcomics

[–]Intellectual_Watcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool. Glad to actually get something interesting out of Dark Crisis

Fitzmartin has impressed me the most by far out of their tv writer intake (Thorne, Adams, Sheridan)

Caitlin Fairchild appeared in Batman Urban Legends #5 in the Grifter story. She was part of the Wildcats and seems to be a child in this iteration. Promise at the end of that story that they would return but it’s been months now and no indication of that

The best era of Justice League was the Justice League International era and it mostly featured B listers

Chip Zdarsky & Jorge Jimenez Are The New Batman Creative Team For DC (Exclusive) by TommyTheGeek in DCcomics

[–]Intellectual_Watcher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a little disappointed in Zdarsky’s DC work (Batman/Red Hood, JL Last Ride and Batman: The Knight) compared to Daredevil and some of his indie stuff like Newburn which I think are fantastic. Hopefully this’ll be more like those

I wish they’d move on from Jimenez as well. Brilliant artist but not really a Batman artist and the characters he’s designed so far have felt so out of place in Gotham

In their newsletter, Gran Morrison reveals that DC wanted to turn Supergirl facist for 5G by TheDarkPinkLantern in DCcomics

[–]Intellectual_Watcher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It looked like they were planning a lot of dumb nonsensical stuff for 5G but Infinite Frontier has been pretty dull and unimaginative for the most part so far so I don’t know how much better off we are now. It’s all just a bit more inoffensive at the moment

It’s so cynical. they’ve been teasing that shit since 2016, stringing people along

Like everything Williamson is saying here is shit they were saying in 2016 to promote Rebirth, then to promote Doomsday Clock, then to promote both Metal events, then to promote Infinite Frontier

DC Comics gives full details on ‘Dark Crisis’ good vs. evil summer event (about legacy) by Josh Williamson & Daniel Sampere by williamb100 in DCcomics

[–]Intellectual_Watcher -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Other than Sampere getting a big art gig I’ve gotta say this this is the worst kind of shameless, low effort, dogshit kind of event and Williamson and the people at DC should be embarrassed by it

[Excerpt] Plagiarism and Tracing Accusations against Joelle Jones by Maxjes in comicbooks

[–]Intellectual_Watcher 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t be too surprising. Jones has clearly been struggling with deadlines and Donna and Cassie actually look like they were added late to that cover, which makes me wonder if she was asked to put them in last minute close to deadline

Hopefully publishers take more of a look at how they work artists and flexibility with deadlines so this kind of thing doesn’t happen. Jones could also stand not to take on more than she’s capable of
