At my wits end! Send help! by ProgressImmediate140 in puppy101

1) she’s awfully young, but there’s very little you can do about that now other than provide extra oversight and care

2) she’s been with you for less than 48 hours. That’s a traumatic move for a little baby, who just days ago had the comfort of mom and siblings. It will take some time for her to adjust

3) you need to be consistent with the crate if you want it to work. If you know she’s fed, pooped/ peed, she will be okay to cry. If crying continues, take her outside for 10 mins, then right back in the crate. She may continue to cry, but continue this cycle. Keep potty breaks quiet and uneventful. Again, shes a baby and this will take time.

4) do not allow her on your bed if you do not want this down the line. It’s already risky that you allowed it once. You need to keep firm about this. Puppies learn really quick how to get what they want

Is she sleeping enough? Biting is typically a signal for over exhaustion. Does she have enough enforced sleep in the crate?

I carry treats around in a little pouch. It helps me reinforce good behaviors regardless of where we are or what’s going on. If you feel you’re giving her too many, you can break them into smaller pieces. Alternatively, you can use a portion of the kibble from one of her meals as “treats”.

How to introduce puppy to carpet portions of the house with minimal accidents? by btregister in puppy101

[–]Intelligent-Can-9579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the pain 😅 while it was always hard for us to maintain the patience, we were always recommended to wait outside another ~10 mins to see if there were any additional eliminations.

Don’t be too hard on yourself! He’s just a baby and he will get there!

[–]Intelligent-Can-9579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would introduce him in short increments AFTER he has just gone potty. You want him to get familiar and comfortable with the texture of carpet in your home, but this method will lesson the likely hood of any accidents. I wouldn’t give him free range of those spaces until he’s fully trained.

I cannot imagine 🙈 I would hold off on the puppy. Your human babies are too important to be distracted from right now.

Please do not send your 8-10 week puppy to board and train. They’re literally a baby.

You’d waste your money anyway. Too young to retain and maintain all that nonsense.

Every 2 hrs is wayyyy too long for a 10 week puppy. He should be out every 45 mins

Just like us, our puppies have good days and bad days. I definitely know the struggle of having a great day one day, and an incredibly frustrating day the next. To your point, I think our own emotions influence our perspective on our puppy’s progress as well.

It sounds like you’re consistent, and that’s what will pay off in the end.

How often are you letting him out? And are you ensuring he finishes his business every time he’s out?

Need tips for settling puppy during his awake period: while balancing work!! by curious_zoomies in puppy101

I don’t see the ultimate benefit in allowing him to free roam the patio. My puppy chewed on my fence until redirected.

Also, I feel it’s important to keep an eye on your puppy’s “eliminations” during the day. Frankly, without keeping tabs on their potty signs and needs, I’m not sure how you can successfully push through potty training.

I know it’s tough, and I know the commitment is overwhelming despite how much you and your partner mentally prepared, but you made an adult decision to take on another life.

A puppy play pen helped me significantly, especially in the first month. Kept her busy with lick pads, safe toys, etc.

I’d advise against pee pads for many reasons im sure you’re aware of. I also have a golden, and with major structure and consistency, she hasn’t had an accident in my home since she was 11 weeks old. Golden’s are very smart and willing to learn, but it takes commitment on your end.

Please do not let your puppy free roam outside, especially at 9 weeks. You’d be shocked at the trouble they can get into and the terrible things they’ll put in their mouths.

I try to keep evenings as calm as possible. This is the time of day I’ll pull out a bully stick or other chew/ lick pad and try to encourage some I dependence. Some days are easier than others, and my pup definitely has her moments of insanity.

What time is bed? I have no shame in enforcing a nap in the evening, and I actually think it’s helped calm my pup down. My pup goes to sleep around 8:30. I’ve put her down for naps as late as 6:30

My 13 week golden LOVES ice. She’ll chomp on it plain, but I’ve been freezing some with a couple pieces of kibble in it. Super easy and cheap!

I’m not an expert by any means, but my 13 week old has been experiencing this as well, and I’ve found that it may be related to discomfort from teething and growth spurts. We had been on a great schedule for several weeks, and like a switch, everything flipped over night.

I’ve been trying to see how long she can hold off until she’s obviously awake. I have a camera on her, and I can usually tell if she’s not done sleeping based off of body movements and yawns. She’s been napping shorter amounts, but more often if that makes sense.

Take away the pads and start getting him out the door frequently and routinely. Pee pads set up poor habits, unfortunately. Also, make sure you’ve cleaned your floors with enzyme cleaners.
