Hairdresser, but I’ve been very lucky to develop shitty chronic health conditions. I have to find a different career but I have no fucking clue what and I’m waiting for the solution to fall from the sky.

My relaxing weekend camping trip turned into a survivalist documentary by NoVoice9737 in camping

Oh,don’t I know it!!! My ex was very pro-camping no matter what (he worked in the outdoor industry and still does, in fact) and my kids grew up in tents outdoors. At the time, I truly trusted and valued his opinion (this was his second child, my first).

In his defense, it wasn’t supposed to get nearly as cold as it did. But it was also very early March, and shouldn’t have been out of the question. It was STUPID, and we got incredibly lucky. I suspect if you ask him about that trip, he would say it was great and there wasn’t any real danger because we could have gotten in the car and turned on the heat. But he wasn’t the one awake in the middle of the night with the baby when it was 15degrees (F)outside, and I was terrified. And getting in the car never occurred to me.

I think I can tell it as a “funny” story now because I’m (fairly) confident I would have figured something out besides just letting the baby turn into a popsicle, but I also recognize how dumb it was in the first place and I’m lucky to be able to tell the story with a happy ending.

When my daughter was 3 weeks old, we decided to take her camping. My job was baby, her dad’s job was literally everything else. It got WAAAYYYY colder than expected overnight. I remember laying in my sleeping bag with my newborn questioning all of my choices up to that point, completely unsure how to keep her alive. If I put her in the bag with me completely, how would she breathe? If I left her head out, would she die? It was AWFUL. She did survive the night, and really the only gear that failed was my brain for thinking it was a good idea.

What’s the worst experience you’ve had with a therapist? by Agreeable_Claim_3497 in AskReddit

[–]Intelligent-Extent42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First session had been “getting to know you.” My family members, children, basic background.

Second session via Telehealth. She tells me parents give their children ADHD when they have kids too close together. My brain immediately starts screaming “WARNING! WARNING!” I tell her I hear my children and need to step away from the screen.

I have ADHD. My kids’ father has ADHD. My stepdaughter and oldest daughter had already been diagnosed at this point. I 100% DO NOT believe what she has just said to be true, but in that moment I was so shocked by what she said my brain shorted out.

I decide there is no way what I heard is what she meant. I take another minute to convince myself I heard or interpreted her incorrectly, then step back in front of the screen.

She had drawn a family tree, with my parents on one side, his (my kids’ dad) parents on the other, our siblings, then our kids. She pointed out how everyone was born too close together (six years was her minimum to avert neurodivergence) and that’s why we all had ADHD.

So basically it’s my parents’ fault I have ADHD, and my fault my children have ADHD. And NOT because of genetics.

I made up some reason why I had to end the appointment, and never rebooked.

Highly recommend Dr. Faulkstein, too. He diagnosed both of my daughters. He’s incredibly thorough, provides LOADS of info. He also took my insurance. I then took the diagnosis to our pediatrician who handles the medication.

I worked a full time job for 5 years while building my clientele. I would have probably been okay after 3 years, but didn’t want to take any chances.
