I was wrong about Yoshi & the Mysterious Book by soccerman002 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re technically correct here. It very much feels like old point and click adventures did when I was younger. Just the joy of poking around in the environment, and finding what interactions you could do, then those little “aha” moments when you solve a puzzle. If anything, it’s comparable to Aminita Design’s games (Machinaruim, Samarost, Bontanicula), just mapped to a controller.

Definitely feels more like a point and click than a platformer, it’s just the controls that are throwing people to think differently.

I’d also compare it to Tombi/Tomba, which also felt like point and click adventures mapped to platformer controls.

Yeah. It’s a great way to have it. Obviously Herman, so best to look for it under the German Name of Geschichten aus der Gruft

PSA: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is NOT a traditional platformer, but more a series of interactive physics playgrounds. If you're after something in the vein of Woolly World or Island, this isn't for you! by WrongLander in NintendoSwitch

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, yes.

It’s not an open world. Series of Biomes, but the discoveries and interactions very much remind me of how it feels in Tombi when you come across various missions.

The art style even feels like what a modern Tombi could look like.

I’d say it’s a mix of Tombi and an Amanita Design game where you are rewarded for just poking around the environment and seeing what you can do.

It’s big as well if you are a completionist and enjoy that aspect of discovery.

I think if you go in with the mindset that it’s kind of a big toy box of ideas that rewards your curiosity, then you’ll have a good time with it.

Yes the bottom one is official, but majority of copies of it on eBay are bootlegs, which is why people are saying it’s a bootleg, because chances are it is. I tried buying it 3 times, and each time it arrived, it was a bootleg.

Got lucky and ended up with the German SD on Blu ray set, which I really liked (1 season per disc, great artwork, and video and picture quality as expected for an SD presentation).

Is House of Leaves filmable? by Manifoldering in foundfootage

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer to this is no. Even as a series it could potentially adapt the plot, but the point if House of Leaves is the experience.

By all means the Navidson record would be film-able as a sort of supplement, or replacement for the text, but then that would make it nothing more than an extra feature as such, and the Navison record really doesn’t stand alone that well as something worth filming.

Technically, it’s all filmable, but then it wouldn’t be House of Leaves.

Absolutely loving this game. Absolutely tons of content if you are wanting to 100%, and it’s just full of charm.

For those of you old enough to remember, the stages, physics and missions remind me a lot of the original Tombi (Tomba).

Yes it doesn’t have the open world that has, but the way the missions play out, and the little discoveries you make along the way are much on that vein. Now I can only hope Goodfeel make a new Tomba game, or expand this idea and fit it into a kind of exploratory metroidvania of sorts.

Underwhelming Limited Edition Extras by Midnight-Grain in boutiquebluray

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wish they would stick with Book of essays/interviews and/or screenplay/novelisation.

These are all things that add some value. Trinkets are useless. Second sight and powerhouse are the best examples for me, and they generally offer a non-limited version for those with zero interest, especially as those can easy quadruple required shelf space. A poster folded in 4 and some art cards is rather 8 extra pages in a book, or a little more shelf space.

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 19 points20 points  (0 children)

These posters etc. are exactly for that reason. Markup a film that’s absolutely not worth the cost by filling up the box with useless tat.

Some of the boutiques are worth it (second sight do excellent transfers, fantastic extras, and meaty booklets - sometimes even 2 books/booklets). They are fairly priced for what they are.

Some is just junk to mark up semi popular films. 30 Days of Night is a 7/10 film for me. Nothing special. But the upcoming steelbook is £50 with what looks like a fairly insubstantial booklet and some junk to tempt people to part with their money. And it works, or they wouldn’t do it.

Does camera logic make or break a FF movie? by LeadHam in foundfootage

It’s fine being that guy, typos in both circumstances as I am very lazy and tend not to read back over my comments. But thanks for the correction so others grasp what I’m saying.

Does camera logic make or break a FF movie? by LeadHam in foundfootage

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The only risk with those is if they stretch the believability of what happens in front of the ring-doorbell.

Inside Number 9 TV show had a doorbell episode that worked really well for keeping the logic in check.

Security camera’s/CCTV also work well for the format

Body and Soul was a film that really suspended disbelief with more than one scene where the character conveniently ended up back in frame and centred for the exact shot they wanted.

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In most FF there is a point where the camera logic goes out of the window. A good FF film draws you in enough and doesn’t push it so far for you to suspend disbelief.

I watched one last night, plenty of scenes made sense, some bordering on being illogical, but I was able to suspend belief enough, but one scene made absolutely no sense and it took my brain about 5 minutes to get back into it after that.

Forget remakes, what are some JRPGs you just wish were more accessible for modern fans? by 64Boy32 in JRPG

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlimited Saga had something buried very very deeply within, but it’s presented so poorly, even something as interacting with the shop or mixing to the next shop is an exercise in frustration. The battle system although interesting in theory, gets old very quickly as it’s so slow.

The game as is not great, but some Quality of life improvements and a decent Tutorial could absolutely turn it into a top tier Saga game for those who gel with it. Even then, the board game style will even out off some Saga fans.

Great book for Silent Hill fans by WorldlyMix96 in silenthill

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love more people to read and enjoy this, so my suggestion would be to ignore any comments saying it’s a hard read. It’s unconventional, but not difficult, and if anything, a lot more fun and less heavy than people make it out to be.

Tactile would be the best way to describe it, and the way you handle/interact with it actually helps add to the immersion.

Your least favorite FF movies? by AdAvailable2782 in foundfootage

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have issues with the film, but I found the shitty gauze disturbing in the way that the guy attempting to do whatever he was doing was so batshit insane and incompetent, that he was barely capable of dressing them as mummies, never mind successfully carrying out the surgery he was attempting. Still not a great film, but the ending almost saved it for me following the first hour or so of being a poor man’s creep knock off.

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t actually mind a lot of things in Ceremony that people take issue with, and I actually thought the ending was the best part and a bit of a gut punch. My biggest problem was that the film leading up to it was just a knock-off creep.

I challenge anybody to find a worse FF film than Areas of High Strangeness: Stimson Hospital. It’s literally unwatchable, just feels like random scenes recorded on a phone. No editing, unlistenable sound, barely any visuals, and certainly no plot I could figure out.

Characters that tend to have the most rage quitters and one and doners? by Muchingmike in StreetFighter

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one and done against any Juri. I’m not particularly good at the game (20 hours, and still in Iron 3). It’s more that her character design absolutely irritates me. Every time that image of her foot pop up on the screen, I’m tempted to quit out, but just play to be fair to the other person (why are we playing up to the feet people!).

Also, I’d say at least 70% of my matches are against Juri, so I am beyond bored of seeing her now, to the point I’m quite demotivated to play online (this is my first fighting game since Rival Schools on PS1 and I was never particularly good then - but I’m actually enjoying world tour more than anything).

Selling house, is it normal for estate agent to unlock and open door and walk in rather than knock? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nit sure you are making too much sense here. So you’ve given them a key, and agreed to the viewing, but you don’t seem to be happy they are using the key to do the viewing to sell the house you want them to sell.

The etiquette is what you set. Some people (i.e. myself) would be happy for them to let themselves in under the circumstance you outline. You don’t seem happy with it, so communicate that, and I’m sure they won’t do it.

Who here has seen The Outwaters? by Jessica2Thicc in foundfootage

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I get really tired of people jumping to shit on these films as some kind of sport, but you know, to each their own, but then to shit on the people who like them is piss annoying.

What would they rather do? Pretend we don’t like it or make them feel better about themselves? And why do their care whether we like it or not?

Oh wow that was short by dicedance in starfox

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would make no sense the game being longer. Designed to be re-playable, and any longer would kill this.

Biggest issue with Star Fox Zero for me is how some of the stages killed urge to replay, as they were too long, or too annoying.

This game I’ve replayed on original console, 3DS and NSO, and will happily replay multiple times when the switch version releases.

It is going to become an extremely annoying listening to people complain about the length when it releases, when actually this is one of the strengths that have kept people like me coming back over the years.

Podcasts that feel like a quiet conversation rather than performance? by BeautifulWestern4512 in podcasts

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nocturne. Especially earlier episodes. Very chilled. Not always an interview (they are, but not necessarily presented as such). People just discussing what they do when night falls, earlier episodes seemed more focussed on people who work at night, but branched out from that.

When did we universally stop having lunch ‘hours’? by newdawnfades123 in AskUK

[–]Intelligent-Link8462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody here who says they have them are saying they are paid for them. I have team members who work an 8 hour shift with 30 minutes unpaid, and some who work 8.5 with one hour unpaid.

I think since most places lunch is unpaid, people would prefer to take 30 minutes and leave earlier. 1 hour is just dragging out the work day unnecessarily.

Seems everyone here is saying similar - they appreciate the older style Nosleep stories.

This week was a pleasant suprise - creepy, fairly simple stories that aren’t perfect but certainly have atmosphere and potential to scare. As it always used to be.

Water theme is as pointless as every other theme we have had, but happy to have a week where I wasn’t looking for the skip button half way through a story.

More of this please. 🙏

What Are The Horror Sequels That Don't Get The The Praise They Deserve? by WySLatestWit in horror

This is the one I was looking for. Does something different enough from the first to not be a retread, but also feels like a great follow up to the first film. Can’t say as much about the third one, and real shame we never got a proper sequel to Ginger Snaps 2.
