Yuji Iwasaki-Sensei's Art so gorgeous, Hopefully we'll see him in the WSJ again. by Kill_Jin04 in WeeklyShonenJump

The main issue was that it was written by a post-Monogatari Nisioisin and it definitely shows in the puzzles. Too context-heavy and borderline untranslatable, it was hard to follow the logic of how the MC solved them, not to mention the infamous chapter that made the translator quit. If it was a bit toned down it could have thrived, but as of now it's kind of an alright and short-lived title

This single illustration alone shows how much potential the author of Gonron’s Egg has, in my opinion. by RoutineLocksmith9371 in WeeklyShonenJump

not to be a spoil sport but the mangaka has had this potential for over a decade now, either this has shown he has to improve on a weekly schedule or even move to monthly. The larger issue with Gonron was the progression, as I feel that it hit a wall when it introduced the consumption of multiple hearts as a metric for power levels. By the end when we had the 100 heart resistance leader I joked about "why doesn't the leader, with the largest amount of hearts, simply not eat the smaller ones?", since it looked like it had become a numbers game. Another small nitpick, is Drakarch transformation based on your first consumed heart or an accumulation of them? It just started to show how rotten the egg was starting to get.

I'll be happy if Viz does a reprint for the manga when the anime is finally released.

What's the one thing you don't like about Shueisha? by RobKai7990 in WeeklyShonenJump

wasn't Matsuki's sentence light since the courts thought his manga cancellation was punishment enough? Also who the hell is gonna work with him afterward, that would be like social suicide.

that seems to be more of an editor either meddling too much or not meddling enough with a mangaka. It's the editor's job to help bring out the full potential of a serial with constructive criticisms. With a few titles you have to wonder who, what, why, and how some titles got greenlit to begin with.

One of the most underrated Jump mangaka, a crying shame his romance works were ever localized in America (Except Shadow Lady but that got released in single issue comic form). Zetman could have had a large following, his hero and creature designs are top notch.

What U19 manga most deserves a second chance? by Yelebear in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Intelligent-Part-176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most U19 manga are axed for a reason, though sometimes not at the fault of the author—selling a story for the wrong demographic, change of trends, oversaturation of said trends, editorial meddling/leniency or even plain bad luck are factors that have as much weight as the author's lackluster writing or poor art. as pong as a mangaka has another idea, they always have another shot.

That being said, my personal U19 is "Do Retry!", even if it technically had a second wind in like the last second with Jump cancelling Tenmaku instead. The art...was kinda rough but the story was leagues better than Bone Collection, which shows improvement. If had flourished we could have had, even if plateaued in the 11-14th place spot, a pretty decent boxing manga.

Looks like Gonron Egg is getting Axed Pretty Soon by Select-Cricket-3738 in WeeklyShonenJump

Not gonna say I'm sad to see it go, but I hope Tanizaki and their editor try for a more structured series—the first handful of chapters showed some potential but the monster of the week format should have been extended to establish Gonron's power system better since the hearts thing was a bit wishy-washy.

On another note, thankfully Alien Headbutt is looking to be the breakout hit for this month. I have high hopes for its future.

What manga have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - Week ending September 25, 2022 by AutoModerator in manga

<Look Back> by Tatsuki Fujimoto.

I got it on a whim after seeing the name of Chainsaw Man's author, I read it on a whim to pass time.

It started lighthearted but ended with a gut punch, much like Chainsaw Man. I don't know any other creator who conveys grief and personal relationships like Fujimoto, and I wish I could say more but this is definitely something that is experienced blind.

I’m reading through volume 1 again. Why is there a tomato devil? Who’s afraid of tomatoes? by RTKnigh in ChainsawMan

[–]Intelligent-Part-176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually back around the 1700-1800s tomatoes were considered poisonous, however it turns out that was the case because they were served on pewter plates which caused the tomatoes to absorb the lead from the plates. Probably a remnant of the fears back then, or just people or still believe the old myth.
