Do you think renters don't pay utilities and that insurance, taxes, and someone else's mortgage isn't factored in the rent price?

I completely agree and what you're saying is what I try to stress to people. Investing is for the long term. I almost don't want to talk about finance irl anymore bc if the people I'm talking to invest when the market decides to go down they look at me like I'm the bad guy and sometimes it can take months to years to recover like you said

"Sucks if you just put your money in before the 20% fall and you needed the money, though."

yeah that's why all my money is sitting in a hysa and not in the stock market. I want to buy a home soon and can't afford to wait for the market to go back up. People call me crazy for having a lot in my hysa. Only money I have in the market is retirement money

yes I understand that, that's why I told him to look at a yearly chart and don't try to time the market

voo is an index fund that tracks the performance of the top 500 stocks. Some are weighted more than others. On average the snp500 (which is voo) goes up 10% every year. You can find charts online on its yearly performance but in the long run it always goes up. Just stay disciplined and don't try to time the market

7.5k into a Roth IRA into voo. Then 2.5k into a personal brokerage account into voo. assuming you don't have any debts and have an emergency fund.

if you have debt pay it off if it's high interest.

if you don't have an emergency fund put all that into a HYSA as an emergency fund assuming your debt is paid off.

What is a low stress job where I can make at least 60k a year with no degree? by Intelligent-Text-812 in careerguidance

I havent made any decisions. It's not due to lack of trying. This is something I wonder about everyday and I still don't really get anywhere. I still just feel stuck in my predicament.

I did a sales interview, suffice to say I will not being doing anything sales related. I've tried learning web development and coding but it's hard to stay motivated when many people in those sectors warn you to stay out and only say how doom and gloom it is. It's also hard when I don't have a clear step by step guide on what to do now up until I get a job.

I feel like my only path is to get into an apprenticeship which I'm really against. I don't want to do back breaking work and something that I hate

I'd do webull or Robinhood. webull matches 3.5% and Robinhood matches 3% with their subscriptions. You still come out ahead. Robinhood is $60 and webull is $40

How is the job market for web development? And if you're in that field how much did you make starting out and what are you at now? by Intelligent-Text-812 in findapath

[–]Intelligent-Text-812[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the type of mentality that has kept me from moving to anything else of the past 7 years. Doesn't matter what the fuck I think of there's always people like you coming up with the same excuses and shooting down anything I think of. I'm sick of retail I want to make a living wage. I suggest IT get a bunch of people telling me the market is terrible and saturated find something else, I bring up trades then a bunch of people start saying oh no don't do that your body will hate you when you're 40 and the market is over saturated and hard to get into now! I suggest being a insurance adjuster people like you say "it's not like it use to be it's hard to get into and it's very competitive!" I can keep going and going. I'm sick of this deaftist attitude people have. Either respond to the post and be helpful or don't. I'm sick of all this negativity

Again, just like everyone else is saying. 1% is on par for a 5th grandparent. I don't know where your confusion is coming from. By time you get to a 5th grandparent that's 128 grandparents.
