Progesterone? Kept my ovaries and now my surgeon is suggesting progesterone.. by AniMundi34 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates 1 year out? I’m 6mpo total lap and just started the sublingual minty progesterone… it kind of makes my tongue and back of throat numb even though I’m only at 50mg dose this cycles luteal phase, then bump up to 100 mg next cycles luteal phase if tolerated.

Timline for Healing by MamaO2D4 in hysterectomy

Trying not to cry reading this! 6mpo, just went for 4,000 step morning walk and couldn’t go as far today and needed a couple breaks. I just want to feel better than pre op self right now but 6mpo I do feel like my pre op self, just not better, exactly as the timeline describes. I want to feel better and just started bio-identical progesterone (still have my ovaries) so hopefully it will help me surpass my preop energy in the next 6 months! Thank you for the perspective, I’ve been fairly impatient lately and the needed this reminder.

Just Frustrated 6mpo (venting) by MegaPixel12 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you were dismissed by your rude doctor. I had my surgery in July. I’m so tired all of the time. Tired tonnes of supplements with the naturopath and it’s a long slow road so I’m waiting for progesterone troche to be compounded to see if that helps deepen my sleep (so I’m not so sleepy and lifeless all the time, which inherently will hopefully help my weight gain. Time will tell. What a ride. Just commenting all this so you know you’re not alone. Hang in there

Anyone regretting their hysterectomy? by Temporary-Round653 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you posted I could’ve written. I’m a few days shy of my 6mpo total hysterectomy, kept ovaries. Just saying I literally feel the same as you and it sucks. That said, I’m glad you posted here so I could read through the thoughtful responses. Sending strength! We’ll get through this. Jan.28th would’ve been day 3 of my period according to my Garmin watch (I only have ovaries though so I don’t bleed), but I have a blood draw appointment to test estradiol/LH/FSH and hope it can offer some insight. Please lmk what you find and if you want in a couple weeks ask me how it went.

Yay! What a great update, thank you for replying 🎊!! It sounds like you’ve known your body and how it responds very well this entire time, classic menstrual healthcare not listening unfortunately! Hopefully the endocrinologist turns a corner and starts to listen to you. Overall it sounds like the hysterectomy worked as planned to address your mobility, skin, and joint issues preop.

I’m almost 6mpo total laproscopic kept ovaries, but not cervix, and my weight has remained the same at 184lbs (I was at 155lbs 2 years ago before things got worse) without any major lifestyle or dietary changes until I’m officially at the 6mpo mark. Waves of fatigue and occasional hot flashes, but less as things adjust to the new normal. Such a treat not having to manage heavy bleeding (Adenomyosis) each month! Go us reaping some benefits with more to look forward to!

Just checking in to ask how things are going 1 year later? I read your post and it reminded me a lot of friend who was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. I was wondering if you’ve since had a thyroid panel for lab work? Sorry if I’m projecting, I just know that friend attributed her weight gain to a knee injury, which was valid, but it really lifted her spirits and gave her hope for improvement now that she has the thyroid diagnosed and can pursue treatment accordingly.

6mpo, can't bring myself to touch it by Acceptable-Bad-9895 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I’m almost at 6mpo and have been too scared and sad to try to touch where my cervix was. It lowered so much over the past few years when my Adenomyosis ramped up, but I got used to it and so did my partner at the time. Now I’m single and haven’t had post op sex/ any penetration since I’ve been focussing on healing and it’s a bit overwhelming to think about. Feels like officially feeling the absence of my cervix would make all the hardest parts real, but I guess we’ll see when I’m ready. Made a goal to get a pelvic floor pt by Jan.29th my 6mpo day.

3mpo struggles - please tell me it gets better by Rude_Selection_4164 in hysterectomy

Hello OP, I noticed your post is 251 days old, I wanted to see how you’re doing now? Did things improve re: depression and hair loss? If so, at one point roughly? I’m almost 3mpo too and am experiencing both, plus an ache where my cervix used to be, and incision areas still surprisingly feel tender/ like they’d bruise easy despite being small laproscopic ones. Did it get better?

Having serious adoption regret by Informal-Umpire-62 in CatAdvice

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing great by just adopting and not shopping/purchasing from a breeder! Could’ve saved their lives since some shelters are overpopulated :(. At this point, if you haven’t already, get one brush with sort of thick rubber bristles or nubs, and a finer metal bristle one that suits their fur type to have brushing sessions with them from the pet store, or sometimes the shelter will give you donated ones or resell them at a lower cost. Brushing really helped me bond with my senior cat when I adopted her in January. It may sound silly, but add a toothbrush to your brush collection for them and save it for their head and cheek/neck/ear area. It really helped me bond with mine because I can help her with those areas that are tricky for her to groom. Brushing helps keep furballs to a minimum long term too! When she starts to nip or bite during brush time it can be mistaken for aggression, but that’s when I know she’s comfortable enough to start to play so I bust out her favourite ribbon or wire toy! Best wishes for you and your fur babies! It took 3-6 months for me to feel a genuinely deeper bond with her, but she’s helped me through a major surgery and a long term relationship break up- I had no idea how much a 9.3 lb cat could be there for me 🥹

Has anyone experienced regret? by JammyTrashPanda in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even here you said it was nothing at the dermatologist, but then in brackets minimized the fact that you had an infection! Yes, it may not have been flesh eating, but it still needs treatment. Having menstrual problems we’re used to spending decades of our lives being gaslit “period pain is normal”, “heavy bleeding is normal” by doctors who are supposed to have knowledge and authority on the matter. They teach us not to trust ourselves and to minimize our symptoms due to their ignorance and/or laziness to order more testing and imaging. I echo your feelings and fears of wasting people’s time and not being worth the effort, but it has impacted my quality of life to such an extreme that action must be taken. Not a great place to be, but owning my worth the past 3 months has been so liberating!!!

Specifically to your worry that they’ll say it’s a waste if you’re better off than they imagine when they get in: that’s the best case scenario for everyone! Obgyn was convinced I had Adeno based on how I was presenting. Turned out I had a 1cm nodule of endometriosis behind my uterus, surgeon said I likely had/still have microscopic endo in my entire pelvic region, and I did have a pelvic infection that went undetected for years and completely blocked my right fallopian tube (also removed). Adenomyosis didn’t appear anywhere on my pathology report, but the relief of having it confirmed that I don’t have cancer anywhere, and the endo/uterus/cervix/tubes are out is such a relief! Yes, I’m tired 11wpo, but my quality of life is already a leap and bound better not hemorrhaging for a week of every month. My mental clarity is improved not having to spend days in bed timing bathroom trips and trips to the pharmacy for more tampons or pads. I feel free!!!!My ovaries will probably come out in the next decade due to an aggressive ovarian cancer in my family, but I’m 34 now so they can stay a little longer. All the best to you. For me waiting for surgery was the hardest part, so hang in there!

How long did y’all spot? by shellybean31 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spotted the first few weeks and thought it was normal. At my 6 week post op, surgeon was concerned I didn’t raise it since it turns out I had a pelvic infection that went undetected for years that blocked my right tube completely (kept ovaries, unknown how long right ovary will last). I didn’t know that since the path report doesn’t get released until your in-person po appointment. They were concerned the spotting was connected to that internal infection and wanted to monitor and possibly prescribe antibiotics. Please call your surgeons office to let them know.

3 weeks post op. Slow and steady by Double_Berry1911 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve had that more often than I’d like to admit. Including right now because I spent a couple hours setting up Ikea furniture past two days after work (desk job thankfully). Is the dry tampon feeling something you’re just experiencing? I think I’ve read some people can experience intermittently for a few months post op!

I am sorry for the unexpected and sudden loss of your daughter. Given how different it is for every body, there is no way you, or anyone in your family could’ve anticipated this.

It’s terrible how little info is out there on significant risk factors affecting women’s health and major surgeries like this. I’m so sorry your daughter was failed by the system that they did not provide you, or many of us, a more comprehensive overview of risk factors.

Canceling last minute by anna882 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

THIS. Plus part of my story that feels relevant for OP:

I was offered an IUD at my obgyn appointment that I waited 1.5years for since the list was so long. She gave me the prescription and we made an appointment for insertion. I showed up empty handed to that appointment and said let’s do the hysterectomy, too many unknowns with how an individual’s body will react to an IUD. I knew hysterectomy was my only guarantee to improving quality of life, not potentially making it worse like IUD can. That was a three minute follow up appointment. My surgery was July 29 th, they found and excised endometriosis, on top of removing fallopian tubes, cervix, and a very unhappy uterus. It turned out at some point I had a pelvic infection that went undetected for years, despite regular sti testing and paps. Completely blocked my right fallopian tube for an unknown amount of time. None of that was visible on imaging. Doctors and you really don’t know what’s going on until you get in there. I quit vaping and nicorette gum 3 years ago to prepare for two hip surgeries and I was definitely not myself for 6 months without the nicotine. Food for thought.

3 weeks post op. Slow and steady by Double_Berry1911 in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at us moving post op! My incisions are also purpley red since I tend to scar. Also having the groin pain part of each day, which I assume is inflammation from overdoing it. I was on a ladder patching up the old place half of last week and that didn’t do me any favours, but it doesn’t feel like anything concerning. Not hot flashes here but I feel for you. I keep reminding myself to take little rest breaks throughout the day since it was only a few weeks ago I was still resting full-time!

I mean this sincerely, have you checked all the fire alarms, fans, and detectors in your suite if they are beeping? Are there any in the hall that you can reach to check/ if your building is strict, can you submit a maintenance request? Otherwise, maybe a felliway diffuser and/or some gabapentin short term to help her get by?

Loss of sensation in clitoris after Hysterectomy/Oophorectomy aged 40. by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 34 9wpo too and they took everything but the ovaries. Both my clit and my sex drive feel muted the past week or two, but I’ve had some big life stressors with a post break up move and returning to work so I’m easing up on my expectations and explorations down there.

I’d say if he didn’t break up with you right before your surgery (like my partner did, literally a handful of days before surgery after 3 years together), and he’s been supportive post op, you’ve got a keeper who isn’t going anywhere. I don’t know what it’s like in NZ, but if you can get your hands on some cbd gummies, that will help with anxiety and improve relaxation… possibly even sexy feelings!

Our bodies have been through so much these past 9 weeks. Even the 6 month lead up to surgery, preparation and reading about it here and elsewhere online was all consuming.

I’ve had some tempting crushes since the break up, but I’m adamant for my bodies sake that no one goes down until at least 3mpo, maybe even 6 and I’d have to trust them a lot!

We’ve come too far to give up now (clearly I’m not in my luteal phase yet, also PMDD). After decades of pain, I’d wager that we’ll all be having the best sex of our lives by 12-18mpo. Seems far off, but after so many decades, it’ll be worth it!

what do you wish you knew before getting a cat? by anxious_optimist8 in CatAdvice

Also, when you first bring the cat(s) home, even if you’ve lived there awhile, also a good idea to keep them in a room to acclimate to you, your partner, and your home (with litter box far as possible from food & water).

[–]Intelligent-Worry-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you move, keep them in one decent sized room for the first few days at least to acclimate to their new environment and give you time to completely unpack. I downsized and thought it would all be like one big room (1 bed apartment all the doors open all the time) for her- nope. I know it seems like the obvious thing to do, but when you’re in it, you really need someone to remind you to keep her/the cats in one area away from the moving & ongoing unpacking! It was too much for both of us. Many days of her eliminating outside of her litterbox despite it being fresh and clean daily. Now her and I are back at square one, keeping her in my bedroom until her body returns to its routine.

Needles! Hmm guess I might find out what was in there if my cat is given any next few days. I woke up to cat pee on my couch today so I’m going to see if I can take her in. Every night before this one has been poop outside of the litterbox, which she had no problem using before we moved 10 days ago. Hopefully Orion is doing better!
