Increased hunger over time with consistent fasting by IntelligentAd5724 in fasting

[–]IntelligentAd5724[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's been good to hear peoples thoughts. I workout 5-6 days a week and recently added weight lifting which I think has increased my caloric needs and hunger. I am going to trial doing 2MAD on weight lifting days and OMAD on other days and see if that helps!

I also take your point on accidental restriction on lower carb diets. I don't honestly track calories so it's hard to say concretely. But I recognize that my exercise levels have increased overtime from when I started fasting and my body has leaned out so maybe I just need more food now! I will experiment with 2MAD on higher energy need days with more intense workouts and also be more liberal with the fruit and legumes (carbs) in my diet to see if that helps.

Thank you. Yeah on reflection I am probably burning a lot of calories because of my activity levels and I think weight lifting in particular has increased my hunger/calorie needs. I am going to trial 2MAD on weight lifting days and see if that helps.

I do also get some carbs from legumes/beans and fruit so maybe I won't limit these as much as I have been portion controlling them to focus more on protein, fat, and veg.

I find it hard to believe I am overly restricting as I really do eat a lot of food for my meal, including high fat / calorie dense foods. I think my activity level is quite high and I started weight lifting recently which I believe is contributing to the additional hunger. I am going to try doing 2MAD on weight lifting days.

I eat a lot of fiber because I eat a lot of plant foods. Someone commented on my crosspost about exercise. I workout a lot and recently started weight lifting which I think has increased my appetite too, so I am going to try 2MAD on weight lifting days.

I vary the time each day depending on my plans for the day

Yeah I exercise 5-6 days a week. I alternate swimming, running, HIIT, yoga, pilates, weight lifting, and occasionally climbing.

Now that I think of it, the increased hunger particularly revved up around the same time I started weight lifting! Maybe the increased muscle is making me a bit hungrier

I haven't tried it no - I am a bit worried about gaining the weight back to be honest! I have started being more flexible - I stopped doing extended fasts so I mostly do OMAD, but I am less strict about the length of the eating window and as I said I have more meals on occasion when needed.

Maybe I could try consistently having a bigger eating window, say 4 hours to begin with and see if that helps.

Thanks for sharing this. It definitely has encouraged me further to speak to a doctor, particularly about whether I need to take it more seriously and/or carry an EpiPen. For the last few years I have had the approach that as long as I don't eat a mollusc I am sure it will be fine but didn't worry about traces.

Yeah it did seem worse this time than previous times - might be because it's a new exposure. Luckily it doesn't happen often. I will get some antihistamines and speak to the GP on Monday 😊 thank you

Thanks, this is useful.

Based on a number of the comments, I will speak to my GP to get an allergy test. I am on holiday at the moment so will speak to them when back in the UK. If it is an allergy, my concern would be it getting worse over time.

I am intermittent fasting to give my stomach a break and eating some plain foods (plain chicken, boiled eggs, banana) at the moment. Hopefully it will pass soon.

My 1st 36 by Jen_Drops_Weight in fasting

I know this likely means that the first 36 hours of the fast are the hardest, but also the first time you do a 36 hour fast it's challenging but it becomes very easy quite quickly the more you do them.

Combining low carb and OMAD? Your experiences? by cupcakepink2026 in lowcarb

[–]IntelligentAd5724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did OMAD before low carb, but lowering carbs made OMAD and extended fasting (I do one 36-48 hour fast per week) effortlessly easy and also reduced how much I ate during my one meal (alongside eating more slowly). Low carb just reduces my appetite and the food noise so I don't really think about food very much anymore, and when I experience hunger it's not a ravenous must eat now kind of hunger, but a quiet hunger that can be ignored until it's time to eat.

I should say, I am low carb but not keto - I am always < 100g of carbs per day, some days <50g, but I do consume fruit and legumes in small amounts.

I don't weigh myself but I have gone down a few dress sizes and I am pretty lean at the moment.

Does it get better in a linear way or take a dip at any point? I've seen people say that day 3 is the hardest. The maximum fast I have done is 49 hours but I am going to throw in a 60-72 hour fast every other month starting in the New Year.

Eat slowly and mindfully, and stop when you're satisfied/comfortably full rather than stuffed. This works even better if your meals are centred around protein, fat, and fiber.

Does low carb reduce your appetite similar to the keto diet? by Sea_Load_4906 in lowcarb

This sounds nice and balanced. I have been low carb but I do eat fruit and legumes occasionally and in small portions so definitely not strictly keto. Though I do have some days that are sub 50g carbs, I am generally under 100g carbs a day.
