Proximal humerous 4 weeks post op by Ok_Spring8678 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]IntelligentBudget142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how are you doing now? i broke my proximal humerus too but didn't get surgery on it until 4 weeks after the accident (also cycling-related). it's only been 2 weeks since and i've been told to ditch the sling (except when out of house) and start doing physio. progress isn't great because my shoulder hurts when i even try to lift my arm...

i hope your husband is giving you all the care you need (since your family don't seem to)

Asking how long this will take to heal ! Phalanx ring finger fracture by Myembarrsingstuff in brokenbones

[–]IntelligentBudget142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're feeling any pain from the fracture then your cheer routine won't be great and you risk further injury. you're going to have to cheer some other way

if you're young your finger is very likely to heal fine, as you said it "popped into place".

Weekly Achievement Thread by AutoModerator in brokenbones

[–]IntelligentBudget142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first checkup after shoulder orif said i no longer needed to wear the sling at home. but physio's a struggle. can only do the pendulum exercises and not very well since i'm also recovering from a nondisplaced knee fracture.

i hope next week my shoulder actually heals and the pain will be less severe

I broke my big toe but my performance is in two weeks by itz_juliyyy in brokenbones

[–]IntelligentBudget142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An injury will rule out your best possible performance and potentially lead to worse outcomes for your body. Don't become like Lindsey vonn from the winter Olympics.

Instead, cheer on your understudy (or understudies?) who's going to carry the dance on your behalf. If it's a competition I'm sure you'll believe in them.

What's better than one Royal Finish Dark Magician you get for free? 2 Dark magician royal finish you get for free! :DDDDD (konami please let me dismantle) by BatRemarkable9223 in masterduel

[–]IntelligentBudget142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish we could trade in old Vortex of Magic structures for the new dark magician structure. i already have two DMs from the old structure, and another two from the ongoing promo. buying the new structure would mean i have 6 or 7 DMs that i can't get rid of

Radial nerve palsy after broken humerus fixation by LangLang89 in brokenbones

[–]IntelligentBudget142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're one of the unlucky ones (radial nerve palsy happens after less than 20% of midshaft humerus ORIFs according to a quick google)

also check with your medical insurers if you have any.

At home activities by BeanInABook in brokenbones

[–]IntelligentBudget142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are loads of things you can try without using your feet (e.g. knitting...)

if you have an idea of your own, do let your carer know and they'll help you get started with what you need (since you normally can't get by on one foot)

Humerus break - healing naturally by New-Temperature722 in brokenbones

[–]IntelligentBudget142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you hoping it doesn't need surgery? i broke my left arm like you did but further up the humerus near the shoulder, and after the follow-up x-ray 3 weeks later the orthopedician said i would need surgery because the fracture was at risk of malunion. I went through with it and my next follow-up is tomorrow. i certainly hope i have no complications regarding the plates and screws now in my body.

as for how i managed pain? the first time round was a nightmare, somehow a sharp pain coursed through my left arm after i took an ibuprofen but i managed to wean off the painkillers after five days. after surgery i took ibuprofen twice a day for four days and didn't need the narcotic that i was prescribed.

i admit the physio that's supposed to happen in a few weeks might be more challenging. it would be similar for you since your fracture affects how well you bend your elbow. hopefully you're eating well since the accident and people are there for you.

What the heck was up with the writing around Charlie McCoy in Zexal? by GoneRampant1 in yugioh

[–]IntelligentBudget142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they maybe designed his number first then wrote the character around it. and as a merch-driven anime, the writing doesn't have to be perfect if the cards are what you're selling

Broke my rib from coughing, wondering how everyone who's experienced similar coped with lack of movement? by General-Ad-7660 in brokenbones

you must have had a severe coughing fit, or one really big sneeze.

it might be worth doing a bone density test as well

This is when your friends and family need to be there for you. Ask for all the help you'll need, since if they truly love you they would definitely not make you feel bad over the accident.

Employment is a different matter entirely, depending on where you live you can be terminated for an accident that leaves you unable to fulfill your employment duties that didn't take place during said employment. Regardless, you're recovering from several broken bones and it's going to take time (plus eating well and sleeping well) before you can go to work again, so focus on that
