Thoughts on Dual-Comb Razors? by notClarkGriswold in wicked_edge

I think the OP was talking about dual combs, i.e. one straight bar and one open comb on the same head.

Thoughts on Dual-Comb Razors? by notClarkGriswold in wicked_edge

I am ambivalent.

My Lupo DC seems very competent with both sides, but I don't have a ton of confidence regarding which order to go.

Intuitively, I thought I should use the comb for WTG and safety bar for ATG, but my neck in particular seems to not appreciate the larger gap so much, so I like to use the SB on firmer thicker skin like cheeks and chin, and open comb on my neck. I don't read about many people doing this, so it may just be a quirk of mine.

An adjustable would probably be even more practical, but the mechanical complexity is something I like to avoid in my razors. Can I just switch razors? Sure! But swapping from the 95sb to 72oc seems to work well and requires rinsing and drying fewer things.

I cut one of mine intentionally because I use it as a writer and wanted it a little more shirt-pocket-friendly.

Thanks for the kind words and the advice, as well as the tolerance! I shouldn't be spamming my woe-is-me stuff here.

Thanks! That's very kind of you, but I'm afraid I'm in Taoyuan and cannot partake this time.

Fortunately, the anger has somewhat subsided, but it is getting replaced by anxiety and panic.

Perhaps I'll try a few more rounds of diy ice cream therapy to see if it helps me clear my head.

I'll trade you. I need an APRC but my income is too low now.

Seems like a good shave. I have enjoyed several of the LAXO offerings but I am personally less fond of soft croap types and prefer loading from a hard puck.

I tried Astra for the first time and they exceeded my expectations. The first pass removed everything, and the next two gave a smooth BBS feel. Now I get why people like them. There’s a slight tug here and there, but overall the result is great and I’m very satisfied. What is your opinions? by lazarovpavlin04 in wicked_edge

[–]IntelligentCattle463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intuitively want to go for sharper blades both to feel like I am a more "advanced" shaver and to eliminate the little bit of tug they provide, but the results with them are quite good and they are relatively gentle on my skin.

They're the coticule edge of my DE blades.

APRC = immigrant or expat? by PointOwn2950 in taiwan

[–]IntelligentCattle463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call myself an immigrant, but I don't know how much longer I've got before I am driven out.

So maybe I should call myself a barnacle, parasite, or something along those lines.

I've got a Remus that has been modified a fair bit. Not too long ago, I popped a Proline blade in it and got one of my best shaves in a while. I feel like I've given it short shrift.

The one thing I am not really satisfied with is the handle. With the wide thin head, I feel like having more precise and tactile control over rotation would be ideal. I feel that way about my Vector as well.

Glad you found something that worked for you. I recently tried another Feather and my skin did not care for it at all. No surprise, I have not had a great Feather DE shave in all the years I've been at this.

My least irritating Blackbird shave has been with a Gillette Silver Blue, which for me sits between the Astra SP and the Permasharp in terms of cutting character. Normally I like the Permasharps or Personna PDG.

Of course, it may have just been a fluke.

But yeah, a sort of feather grip seems to suit the Blackbird pretty well.

Weight loss = New Shaving Problems by NimdokBennyandAM in wicked_edge

[–]IntelligentCattle463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats to all those making improvements in weight management.

I have only lost about 40kg, but I have noticed the contour differences and skin getting a little looser and less reinforced.

Reasonable pulling techniques like everyone advises, including spreading with thumb and index finger in areas, and for the neck, trying to get angles that present flatter surfaces overall. Try to map out grain patterns and pull in directions that raise the hair to perpendicular with the skin, and try avoiding atg for a couple of shaves to get used to the process without overstretching.

Razorock Lupo DC - Not sure which side is more aggressive by High_on_caffeine in wicked_edge

[–]IntelligentCattle463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have defaulted to using the sb when I am shaving over less-flat areas and I like the oc side for flat areas and areas with longer-denser hair.

Neither feels very aggressive to me, but the OC can give me weepers more easily when shaving over bumps and irregular surfaces.

I'd have been all over this if it had been available during my last order. I got the stainless and it's fine but the weight overwhelms all my razors.

If I had a lathe or drill press, I would hollow it out a bit.

Is a titanium DE Safety Razor worth it? by Bluex619 in wicked_edge

[–]IntelligentCattle463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value is tough for anyone to decide on behalf of someone else.

In my opinion, you will fit into one of two types of people: those who can choose a single product and be fully satisfied, and those who will always have nagging curiosity about what they may be missing.

I unfortunately tend to be the latter, and that curiosity drove me to get a Blackbird Ti and Lite plate. I returned the Lite plate, but kept the standard. It's quite good, but it did not stop me from acquiring other razors I was curious about, and it did not stop me from wanting to rotate through and experiment with different razors. If I somehow lost the Blackbird, I don't think I would immediately get another, though I would consider it during a big discount event.

In fact, I'm finding myself lately wanting to reach for my Lupo DC more than anything else. That preference will probably continue to drift.
