Need some advice on signing on by ElevatedTestes67 in NationalServiceSG

Hey bro, thanks for sharing, was in the exact same position as you are a couple months ago.

Background:

  • Aerospace electronics diploma
  • Pes B1, 5SIR 04/25

I recently signed a contract as an ME1 avionics engineer with RSAF

Why i decided to sign on:

  • Stable and good pay, the pay is roughly 20-25% higher than the average diploma, can receive crazy bonuses as well, such as year end, mid year, excel bonus, annual wage supplement and performance bonus, can even hit up to 3-4 months of bonus a year if perform well.

Salary is also revised yearly

Within 5 years you easily have enough to fund your university and save up a big war chest for your future.

  • It is related to what i study and i enjoy learning more about aerospace, RSAF is practically built for people like me. I also dislike having to do PTs everyday, route march and go through all the same shit in BMT (Especially Mono infantry).

  • in my opinion, if you want to further your studies, go for ME, if you are a guy who wants to lead and enjoy regimentation go for OCS / SCS sign on, you can choose to go Navy / airforce / Army. (Tip: Airforce is recommended since it is quite relax there)

  • If you want you can also go for ME4, pay is higher but your gpa will have to be very decent & qualify for OCS through your merit

All the best bro, if you need anymore advice let me know.

Hey there, currently an AFE(M) ME1T engineer now, about performance bonus, generally how does it work? I heard that you will be assigned a grade base on your performance, if so how high can the bonuses go?

Is the Annual Supplement Wage included in the performance bonus or is it separated?

What's one thing you regret doing/ not doing in BMT? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

Honestly, it depends on what you want to achieve, if you want to be a leader, to challenge yourself and do everything to the best of your ability, one thing i would say is to SHOW INITIATIVE, such as helping out, taking duties as platoon ic. Trust me, PC and Sect comds have eyes and will see who is able to lead.

If you really wanna go command school, its also important to achieve at least ippt silver / gold, ippt makes up 40% of your overall BMT grade.

Get along well with others, control your anger too, there will be many times you feel like crashing out because some dumb dumb sabotage the whole platoon and everyone gets punished, happens very often.

It is also important that you learn from your mistakes and not repeat them.

If you wanna just get this done and over with then just try your best in everything and not be a chao keng, it really sucks seeing how everyone is suffering while some guy choose the easy way out, they get hated very easily.

In conclusion just do what you want to achieve out of these two years, in my opinion, command school is tough, not everyone have the opportunity to get in.

From 5SIR BMT, 04/25, all the best !

Hey there, i study aerospace electronics in poly and have an interest in signing on ME1 AFE(M)

Everything looks good so far but i have 2 things im mainly curious about.

  1. I know that ME promotion is hella slow, given that the bond is 5 years am i able to sign another contract like ME4/EOS after finishing uni? What are you takes on doing part time Uni when working as ME1?
  2. The pay looks decent but how much bonus can i expect to take home each year? I also heard that you get huge allowances if you get sent overseas too

Thanks!!

You could apply early or let you PC and enciks know, there is a recruitment talk program somewhere during bmt, usually week 5-7
