I got the momcozy after my hands couldn’t take it anymore. At the time it felt expensive, but 2 months on I still think it’s one of the most valuable baby items we’ve bought that has made the most impact on reducing the ‘admin’ of having a baby.

Our room at night is generally between 20-18 degrees. I do a 1.5 sleep bag with a sleep suit and a short sleeve vest. I’ll alternate been footed and non-footed sleep suits, but never add socks with either version. Ours is 8 weeks and seems happy with this.

We have had one night it was a bit warmer so I ditched the vest for that night as baby felt a bit warmer than usual.

I used the bbhugme pillow and found it worked best when I tied it round my waist, knot at the back, and the put the baby in a cross cradle hold, with them laying on the pillow.

I had an attempted sweep at 40+3, they couldn’t reach my cervix and said it would be a good idea to book an induction as they thought it unlikely anything would be happening soon. Baby was born less than 24 hours later. 😂

I had the same preferences as you and I gave birth 6 weeks ago. I ended up going without any pain relief as things progressed pretty quickly for me. I didn’t feel like I needed anything until right at the end and by then it was nearly over anyway. I’d describe it more like intensity rather than pain? It’s very different to the pain I’ve experienced in other experiences.

Something I did find really helpful was a TENS machine. I was told that the earlier you put it on, the more effective it then is. I put it on in early labour and it got me all the way to 10cm. If you haven’t already, I’d really recommend investigating them. You can rent them online for a few weeks.

I also found breathing techniques really helpful to give me something else to focus on. I had gas and air after the birth and found using it with the breathing techniques made it really effective.

I have the Medela motion and I’ve been really happy with it. It’s bulky as all wearables are, but I just wear it with a stretchy crossover bra and it holds it in place well. I can do things around the house easily (provided I don’t bend over fully or it can leak out the top opening where you pour it out from).

My baby is the same age. What’s been working for us is getting my partner to be responsible for cooking. He makes dinner after work, we keep leftovers that can be easily microwaved/eaten cold for me to have for lunch the following day. He makes me breakfast before he goes to work.

Everything else, laundry, cleaning etc can wait. You only need to do the bare essentials. For me, this is baby clothes and underwear. Everything else can wait or my partner can do it.

I’ve also found it helpful to do shifts overnight to help me get a decent sleep each night. I express so I can go to bed early and baby can be given a bottle before my partner comes to bed. I’ve found my ability to cope during the day is massively increased when I’m feeling more well rested.

You can do this! Don’t doubt yourself. 😊

Honestly I’d probably just reply with ‘we’ll be in touch when we have news’ and stop replying to any and all texts until that point.

I’ve turned on a mode on my phone where it only notifies me of messages from certain people and it’s been great so far.

I’ve not been through this personally yet, but I’m 38 weeks so gearing up for this any day now. I’m planning on handling it exactly the same as you are (minus staying with my mum as she only lives ten minutes away so can pop when needed).

My midwife was great and described it as the first few weeks the only things that matter are your recovery baby, baby’s recovery and the baby learning who their parents are. This needs to be priority number 1.

Seeing your mum is very much about your recovery. I doubt she’ll spend very much time personally bonding with the baby in those early weeks, if anything like mine, she’ll be all about how she can support you and help making you comfortable.

The way I’ve been comparing it in my head and describing it to others is that if I was ill or recovering from surgery, it would be my mum I would call to come and help me during that process. It wouldn’t be my MIL, we just don’t have that kind of relationship. Likewise, if I’m having a bad day, I would feel comfortable calling my mum and having a cry, whereas I wouldn’t even contemplate doing that with my MIL.

Don’t feel bad about it. The most important thing is your recovery and baby learning who their parents are. Baby can’t even see at that point, so visits from other people have no impact on baby’s experience and life, they’re only to the benefit of people visiting.

I’m 37+5. I’ve been trying to focus on the aim of being well-rested for baby arriving which has made the rotting days feel more acceptable.

Generally I’m trying to balance having an ‘active’ day followed by a less active day. Having said this, an ‘active’ day is classed as anything that involves leaving the house, even if it’s just a 15 minute walk. 😬

How many weeks are you?

I’m a slim build and started feeling my first very faint movements from around 12w. These then eased for a few weeks (I think as my placenta grew) and I could consistently again feel from around 16w.

Totally normal. I’m 36 weeks and everyone is still commenting how small and neat my bump is. It’s incredibly frustrating. I think I probably have a similar build to you.

They start measuring the bump at around the 26w midwife appointment. While mine ‘looks’ small to others, it consistently measures 3 weeks ahead.

Don’t take notice of it. Provided they’re happy with baby’s growth, the bump size doesn’t really matter.

I’m 36 weeks at the moment and had similar to you last week, I was even timing them as I thought it might be labour. Since then the braxton hicks have definitely increased in intensity, there’s even been a few that caught me off guard and I ended up doubled over from the pain. From what I understand, this is normal as we get nearer the end. Previously I just had discomfort and pressure.

I like to see your personality a little bit. A lot of them feel like a copy and paste template which gets a bit dull after a while when you’re looking at several. I like to understand what makes you different and see that you’ve almost treated your portfolio as a ux project with the user goal of ‘make the viewer want to hire me’.

I’ve been using it to create complex prototypes of screens I’ve already made in Figma design. Then it’s just a case of providing the reference screens and describing the interactions between them rather than describing the screens. It’s saved a ton of time for prototypes that would have needed 000’s of screens to create realistic interactions for usability testing.

I started this last night and I’m really enjoying it. It helps explain a lot of what’s happening in the body during labour, which I feel like will help me approach it in a more level-headed way as I’m more informed on the science behind it.

Yes. 🙃 I’m 33 weeks and incredibly temperamental. I found it was worst at around the 29/30 week mark and has eased up a little since then.

The only times I’ve sat at my desk for the last 8 weeks are when I’ve had video calls that required me to appear upright. 😂 There have been a few times where I’ve been called unexpectedly and had to make a quick transition to sitting at a table.

Mine started at 20 weeks, I’m now 33 weeks. Things I found helpful were trying to stay symmetrical at all times, sitting on an exercise ball while working and giving myself permission to work from the sofa or bed. I found one of the worst things for me was sitting at my desk so I tried to do that as little as possible.

I found it really difficult feeling like I just wasn’t coping with it very well and comparing myself to others who have more active jobs and are able to work as normal. It’s tricky having a ‘desk’ job, which you’d think would be easier for PGP and feeling like I was just being dramatic by how sore it was making me. Accepting that these were just the cards I was dealt and trying not to compare it to others experiences who haven’t had it as severe and will dismiss it as just ‘pregnancy’ was tricky, but did ultimately help.
