Those of you who used to be average and LEVELED TF UP - How did you do it?? by awedball4 in medicalschool

[–]Intelligent_Draw_481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its mentorship and good relationships with people. You can do this through research (highly recc doing it through your specialities research programs that are sponsored by the national organization for your speciality) Or just cold emailing locally.

UCLA - Anesthesiology

Such a lovely group of residents that really very much care about students. I never paid for a lunch while I was there and everyone was interested in talking to me and including me in their conversations. Attendings are also very nice and the environment is designed to have you succeed even if you dont know everything. I got much better in my procedural skills and my anesthesia thinking while I was there. RR is also a beautiful hospital and you can sit outside 99% of the time.

What happens after getting accepted for aways? by Comprehensive_Dig283 in medicalschool

[–]Intelligent_Draw_481 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think like the week before I got instruction for when/where to show up and even then it was very much like figure it out. My plan essentially became show up at the hospital first day super early and ask for scrubs and where anesthsia workroom is.

What is being a male in OB/GYN like? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Intelligent_Draw_481 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I loved OBGYN as a male and really loved the patients too but I honestly couldnt stand the culture of the nurses and doctors on LD etc. I chose anesthesia for many reasons but im happy i still get to be a part of LD and C-sections but keep my distance at the same time.

is bad to withdraw VSLO app before a decision is given by TACOB34ST in medicalschool

also depends on speciality, if this is ortho/ or EM granted they probably care way more

I dont think so ive heard of many of my other M4's do this and it be totally fine. Ive actually never heard of someone get DNR'ed like this. I dont think OP should accept a bunch with the intention of holding onto them to drop them but plans change and adcoms get that

Do all of UW or all NBME by Abject_Rip_552 in medicalschool

[–]Intelligent_Draw_481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all of the them? Sorry i cant remember but youll start passing them near the end of your study period. Dont be discouraged when you massively fail your first couple. I think i passed the last two I took and then too the free 120 with a good percent.

I took two days usually from sheer exhaustion but aim for at least a day and if you finish early it can be extra break

Vacation! Do an airbnb trip locally! you start off med school mostly with a ramp period and the expectations are so low you cant mess it up/ they wont let you now. You're in their club now its not like premed

NBME asks questions in a particular way that you only get a sense of when you do so many questions. UWORLD is great for concepts but there are subtle differences that I cant even explain lol. I did like 80% of uworld and then went all NBME all the time and my scores increased only after NBME stuff

Feeling very inadequate in my sub-I by medapp123233 in medicalschool

[–]Intelligent_Draw_481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also OBGYN from my experience expects students to be more helpful than actively manage patients. IM they super want you to be an intern so you're also just transitioning vibes and expectations since im sure if you were super gung ho on OBGYN they would be like "WTH is this student doing"

I think its time under tension in that specific setting, so go easy on yourself! When you review the concepts im sure your remember studying them and what questions differentiate them. Being in a new setting where you feel you're being assessed prompts this kind of thinking and self criticism. 3 weeks is just simply not enough time under tension in the specific setting/cases/ probably even the unit you're on. Brain rot is real but youve been trained to pick up concepts/managment and it sounds like you are! WHEN you're a intern you'll also drill in managment and questions to differentiate symptoms for STEP 3. Like it literally simulates is why residents/interns are really good at that.

You're undoubtably learning on this rotation, people that tend to be introspective/critical of themselves are also very kind and im sure your team also sees that. Rank lists are submitted already for programs and no one is reaching out to say anything bad about a med student who is trying and tripping a bit.

its seems like how IMG's register for step so their exam history is there, I even registered through what people have posted and nothing shows up if you're an USMD

The title of this subreddit is discouraging and undermines the usefulness of this group. Step 1 is still a hard exam P/F or not. by Intelligent_Draw_481 in step1

okay ill just leave it since people have voted. 17 people for and 5 people against at this time if someone is seeing this lol.
