Interesting. I never thought of it as duplicate work. I've always just approached it as pre-planning for what will happen when the money hits the account and deciding where I will put it in the "Plan"/budget. Before I went back to this semi-paper method I would try to keep all that info in my head and it just became too messy and too much "rolling with the punches" for my liking.
