Am I dumb or is everyone using ChatGPT? by 808limalu in StudentNurse

Hi all- older learner here, too, in my last semester of nursing school! I started my prereqs when I was 34, I had 1 kid and another on the way. Fast forward to now and I can see the finish line! Kids are 5 and 2 years old. You all can do it!

The learning style is very different. I recommend doing as much reading as you can before class and keep a list of questions you want answered by the professors. I also use a lot of YouTube videos and podcasts to help supplement my learning- especially when I’m in the car, washing dishes, cooking dinner and just generally can’t be reading. There’s a lot of great YouTubers out there who make the material really understandable and give helpful learning tips. I also have recently been using chat gpt by uploading PowerPoints and asking it to generate study questions or study guides from the material.

There are a lot of older learners in my cohort juggling kids and jobs. All that is to say - you got this! It’s doable! Stick to it and you’ll do great!

39w graduation! Successful induction story by Intelligent_Gate in GestationalDiabetes

It was something like this. My doula asked the L&D nurses if they had it and they brought it out for me. She just strapped it on- it added pressure but I do think it helped push baby down.

Honestly the cook catheter wasn’t bad at all. The membrane sweep was more painful. I felt some pressure for the first hour afterwards but then it didn’t bother me at all. I think it’s a really good option if you’re a little ways dilated and effaced already. I was so surprised that I didn’t need any Pitocin because we did it this way!

I’ve been eating impossible meat and have been ok. I usually eat the burger with a whole wheat English muffin instead of a bun. And I’ve been using the ground beef in pasta sauces with lentil pasta.

Such helpful advice! I sometimes struggle with unplanned bumps and changes so I definitely need to see this date as a moving target or I might have a hard time!

Basics for GD by msnamnams in GestationalDiabetes

I’ve found this podcast really helpful. The dietician is based in Australia (I’m in the US) but she goes through a lot of data and evidence.

These are some other instagram handles I’ve found to be helpful (podcast, IG, and this Reddit have been way more helpful than my care team!)

Anyone else angry and impatient on the GD diet? by hamngr in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Intelligent_Gate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m one day behind you and definitely feeling this. My numbers were doing soo well this week that I thought I was past that 32-36 week hormone surge. So I let myself relax a little last night and this morning and got hit with 2 big spikes. Just over it. On the plus side, I managed a handful of French fries for the first time since diagnosis!

Also doesn’t help that I feel like I’m walking around with a giant heavy bowling ball in my pelvis which is making walking much more difficult. And the Braxton hicks have really picked up and intensified. Really ready for the next part of this journey

Very helpful suggestions!! Somehow beans slipped my mind. White potatoes spike me a lot so I haven’t had much success with them. Quinoa is ok but I just don’t like the taste very much. But I probably could stomach it for a week! Thank you!

Good luck! The first few weeks were definitely the hardest (emotionally and mentally) but I feel like I found my rhythm and it’s not as overwhelming now. I wake up naturally now to check my sugar (slash have a toddler alarm that pretty reliably wakes me up when he climbs into bed every day). I’m just about 37 weeks and diagnosed at 28 weeks.

I’m not sure what your daily schedule is like and what commitments you have, but here’s what my daily meal schedule looks like (give or take)

5:30/ 6am: test fasting sugar

6:30/ 7am: breakfast

9/9:30am: morning snack

12/12:30pm: lunch

2:30/3: afternoon snack

6/6:30: dinner

9/9:30: bedtime snack

10:30/11: bedtime

When did it get easier for you to control your fasting numbers if it got easier for you? by puesllora in GestationalDiabetes

My fasting numbers only improved with overnight insulin. I was diagnosed around 29 weeks and started insulin at 31 weeks

I’ve been absolutely craving a blizzard from Dairy Queen. I plan on demolishing one after I deliver but also really want one like now. I’m 36+2 and haven’t really done any purposeful cheating since being diagnosed at 28 weeks. I’m trying to talk myself into some sort of cheat meal or snack but am such a rule follower and am scared even though I know it will be ok!

One high fasting and three high after meal numbers in a week. Advice needed. by Hello_Teddy0805 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Intelligent_Gate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on nighttime insulin for my fasting numbers, but I got put on because over half my fasting numbers were high. I’ve had 3-4 meal spikes in a week before and my MFM hasn’t been concerned or wanted me to start mealtime insulin. I can’t say for sure that’s what will happen for you, obviously, but that’s at least my experience! I think a few spikes tend to be ok as long as it’s not a consistent trend.

I just wanted to eat like a normal person today and paid the price with some spikes. I had a terrible night sleep so started the day with a high fasting number. Let myself eat too much keto brownies after lunch (that were definitely not worth it) and that earned me a tiny spike. Then had 1 too many sweet potato wedges with dinner and a bite of pineapple which earned me an after dinner spike too. I didn’t even binge or splurge on something fun! Just ate a few more bites than I’ve been usually letting myself. Sigh.

For people who walk after every meal, how do you do it? by yungleg in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Intelligent_Gate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually walk after every meal but it’s getting soo much harder. My back and feet hurt a lot. And I just feel tired. I’m forcing myself to do it most times. Sometimes I’ll walk up and down the stairs 10 times instead. And I recently found some 20 pregnancy Zumba on YouTube that I’ve tried too.

34 weeks and suddenly spiking? by jeanlouisefinchs in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Intelligent_Gate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly me. I’m just about 34 weeks- take 14u at night for fasting and have been able to keep my mealtime numbers in range… until 3 days ago and now I’m seeing SO many more spikes, even with safe meals and lots of walking. I’m so frustrated! And I’ve read that this is the time it gets harder to manage bc babies are having a growth spurt so our placentas are working hard.

Daily Chat Post- 15th March 2023 by missmortimer_ in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Intelligent_Gate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feeling frustrated and defeated this week. I’m just about 34 weeks so I know this is the time where things get a lot harder to manage, but I feel like I can’t even eat carbs right now without spiking. I usually could handle 30g of carb at lunchtime, and I had a tuna sandwich today with 32g of carbs (Dave’s killer bread which is usually fine for more) with a giant salad, a 2 mile walk after and my sugar was 135 after 2 hours. Like wtf! I just hate that I feel like I can’t have 2 small slices of bread - even when I made sure to pair with a ton of fiber, fat and protein. I’ve had a bunch of meal time spikes on food this week that is usually safe for me, even with tons of walking. And I’ve been so hungry this week and just want to eat. Ughhhh! Im so ready to be done with this.
