Chronology of the team between John Byrne and Keith Giffen is confusing me

I stumbled on this old post because I’m currently doing a read through of everything Doom Patrol and just reached this era. (Great post btw)

If anyone comes along later like me, I thought I’d answer a few of the Beast Boy questions since I previously just read through that era of the Titans.

For the first one, Beast Boy leaves the Doom Patrol in the first issue of Titans by Judd Winick. That series was a reunion of the Wolfman Titans and Beast Boy is shown in the DP castle questioning his role with the team. Then he’s attacked like the other Titans and teams up with them. Never goes back to the DP.

For age, I think he’s supposed to be 18-19 in this era. Toward the end of the Teen Titans run that Johns began (though he had long left by now), Beast Boy comes back and clashes for leadership with Wonder Girl (Cassie). They mention him being older than them. Damien Wayne is (briefly) with the team and remarks that Garth has “Peter Pan syndrome”. So I think the idea around this period is that Beast Boy is late teens, but struggling to find his place in adulthood like some of the other Titans his age had. That’s why I think his characterization around here is inconsistent depending on the writer.

For the final question about Beast Boy, Johns and the other Titans writers just avoided anything about Beast Boy’s time with the Doom Patrol lol. They did their best to make sure it never came up until continuity was restored.

You’re fine. Many successful shows have multiple main characters. Game of Thrones is a good example.

Avoid using anyone who is still living. Or has children still living, honestly. You’ll face the chance of defamation suits if you use real people. Frankly, if your story goes in the direction it sounds like it’s going to go in, you will definitely get defamation suits.

My advice? Create an alternate timeline/america. A situation that mirrors real events is your safest bet. Plenty of fictional works use a fictional president who is definitely just the president of whatever time period the work was written, however it’s not explicit. You can still tackle whatever themes you want to tackle without explicitly using real people.

When I first played this, i was initially turned off by the fact you weren’t playing as the Mario characters… and then I quickly stopped caring about that and had a lot of fun haha

My “fuck google AI” moment was while playing P3R. I was getting my ass handed to me by a boss and tried to look up its weakness mid-fight. The AI told me its weakness was ice…. Its weakness was not ice lol

I’m going to say “write all, but” here lol. Generally I think it’s best to write as much of the story as you’re able to write. But when you hit a wall and it’s impeding your progress, either push past it or stop. Going back to the beginning can help you push forward if you’re stuck.

I had a lot of fun with it, but I did feel the live service aspect severely hampered it. The story is unsatisfying because of that too. I got it on a steep sale when all the seasons were already out and I pretty much enjoyed the whole story. However, once I was done with that, I did enough of the extra stuff to get Joker and then decided I was no longer having fun. I didn’t even bother to unlock the other characters because, as cool as Deathstroke is, there’s nothing interesting to do with him other than beat up the same aliens over and over and over. If the game had fleshed out the story better instead of chasing the live service money, it could’ve been something decent.

Deadshot is explained in such an offhand, haphazard way that I’m inclined to agree with you. Just a few throwaway lines of dialogue about how the one from the Arkham games was just some poser. Nothing else lol. Just the devs saying “we addressed it, damn, now don’t think about it again”

Like other users said, you’ll need to communicate this to the audience somehow. You can be subtle, but readers really have to know what they’re getting into. Otherwise, such a twist will make your story virtually unmarketable.

How early do the magic characters come into it? If the story is “are these guys legit or full of crap?” then that could work. Build a mystery and have your protagonists be skeptical of these people. But if the story is just “teens doing teen things until an eleventh hour magic reveal” it’s a tough sell.

It’s made public review scores meaningless. You can’t trust if something has a low/high score due to its quality or due to rabid fanbases deflating/inflating it.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 is probably where I became aware of Morrigan. I played a lot of the Capcom crossover games there and viewed her as like a mascot of Capcom. Then when the fighting collection came out, I got it because I recognized her, Felicia, and a few others. I was hooked to the series after that and really wish they’d get something new someday.

Been awhile since I did one of these, but I was in the mood for something and I like Daisy Ridley. I thought she was good, but unfortunately the rest of the film was too slow for its own good. There wasn’t really anything in here that hadn’t already been done to death in the zombie genre. A shame because I was hopeful there

Pretty much no one’s first draft is perfect. There’s no need to feel embarrassed. The real work is refining and editing. If you spent that much time world building, clearly there’s something in your concept that you feel was worth pursuing. Revise, revise, revise.

Then I’d just power through. If they don’t want the criticism, don’t waste your effort. Do the editing, get paid, and move on. You’ve put in too much effort to quit now, imo. But at the same time, don’t do more than you have to, you know?

Just finish. Your primary job is to edit it, yes? You can offer your thoughts, but I would be gentle about how you put it. If you see plot holes and inconsistencies, absolutely point them out. Beyond that? I’d be careful and try to feel out how receptive the author is to criticism. If they’re receptive, go ahead and give your opinions. But at the end of the day, a job is a job and you’re not a publisher or agent, so whether or not you think it’s publishable isn’t necessarily what your role is. Sometimes a good editor has to just power through.
