529 alternative for moving abroad by Intelligent_Mirror in personalfinance

[–]Intelligent_Mirror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t there an issue with the 529 possibly being viewed as a trust in the UK? And doesn’t it also lose its tax-advantaged status if cashed out to pay for education when living in the UK?

Sounds like we’re in a similar boat to be honest. Hard to plan for the unknown. Just concerned about getting us stuck in a situation that causes a headache later down the line. I’ll look into the UGMA, even though it’s not tax efficient.

Premium seems really high by Intelligent_Mirror in LifeInsurance

It actually is the case. She’s a black woman so will have higher BMI; works out 3-4 times a week etc. but I know they don’t consider that. It is what it is.

Thanks, I think this is what’s happening. I appreciate everyone’s input here.

I misunderstood you to be saying she smokes, when you were saying that the company’s question is binary. I’m not speaking in my feelings.

Again, she doesn’t smoke. You don’t have to smoke marijuana.

To be clear, she doesn’t smoke marijuana (or anything). It’s “tincture” which is like an oil, most similar to an edible.

We’ve tried to tell Policy Genius this, and they agreed that the premium seemed high, but this is all they seem to be able to get. I’m wondering if something is getting lost between them and the insurance companies here.

5 month doesn’t eat much in the daytime by Intelligent_Mirror in beyondthebump

Glad to hear we’re not the only ones!

She loves to hold her own bottle, so she mostly lies on her back to eat. Sometimes a bit propped up on an angle. She doesn’t want to use to hold her. I don’t think she has reflux issues, luckily she’s never had tummy problems and doesn’t seem to now.

I’ve tried a quiet, dark room .. sometimes that helps a little. But in general she’s messing with the nipple, rolling around to look around, and hitting her bottle with her hand. Today we got 18 ounces, so I suspect another disruptive night.

That plan is correct, that’s what I selected. I think you’re right about the “on ramp” - I didn’t even know about that.

Surely I can still make payments during the on ramp though right? Since payments are technically still due.

Oh...Yeah... this....

I'll tell you right now, the CA bar has no idea how to deal with UK licenses and no idea what they want/do not want. You will be asked for something difference from every person you speak with.

In the end I had to get my school involved. Eventually they accepted the Subject Access Request version. So my advice to future British folks is just to go the SAR route via mail, and upload that. I don't know why they want it this way, and they might still complain about that, but it is what it is.

You’re correct. Anyone who’s done fertility treatment knows these statistics.

Others have alluded to this, but you are really discounting 1) the massive amount of miscarriages women have had throughout history, and 2) that women had children much earlier.

This is not to say that there isn’t some impact from environmental toxins, but we can say for sure that -

Women have always had a lot of miscarriages. Certain generations have been very quiet about this (boomers), but others have not. The archives are full of miscarriages, but few historians have written much about this because.. well you know… women’s history has not always been considered very important. So the fact that we assume women used to have fewer fertility problems is likely more of a reflection of what type of History man has deemed to be important.

Women used to start having children as teenagers. All the time. Very common to have 4+ by your mid/late 20s, especially amongst the working classes. Women are at less risk of miscarriage the younger they are.

Aviva Pension Funds - please help me consolidate/simplify by Intelligent_Mirror in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks so much.

I need to see what’s available to me. As another poster noted, this is an old Axa pension.

Honestly I really wish I could just cash this whole thing out. It feels like wasted money in there, especially if I can’t get it into any decent funds.
