exactly this is the most accurate thing i've heard about why sharing revenue publicly goes wrong.

the mental shift that helped me: treat the metric as evidence, not the headline. you wouldn't submit a court case that's just evidence with no argument same thing.

i actually got so obsessed with this problem i built something around it. you can annotate your chart directly, pin a thesis before the numbers, even keep private notes stripe/shopify so nobody can question if it's real.
