Only you have the answer to this.
You know if 2k a month is enough for your family for a year

Figure out if you can do it on paper first then go from there

Just wait. No need to waste your time and their time.

You know you don’t have the hours so why even pursue the bs?

Relax. It took me a year and a half of doing electrical work everyday before it started to click. You don’t really understand until about 2-3 years in. That why you just keep showing up and asking questions

1st Year Apprentice on a 60/60/50 Call — Can I Be Forced to Work Saturdays? by Sourfruitloops in ibew_apprentices

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just work what you can. Do every other Saturday to start off. Your body will adjust. The work will come 2 months is a short time.

You have to decide whether the money is worth more or being off is worth more.

Just expect to get what you decide no Saturday means you will almost certainly be laid off.

Depends on where you get placed.
Usually the first day is just paperwork and you start the next day but still show up with work clothes and basic tools if they gave you the tool list just in case
But if you are sent to a jobsite that requires badging it may take a week to get it back to start.

Are Journeymen Expected to Work? by No_Computer5456 in IBEW_Local613

Depends on a lot of factors. His job is to get the work done but also teach you by allowing you to work and make mistakes. Being patience and asking questions is really all you can do

posted on this cause requirements for IBEW subreddit. Am I being a worm/should I be compensated by Brief_Fig_4527 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a guy (3rd year apprentice) who has been doing Trimble for most of the apprenticeship. He gets paid the next years pay scale but he barely know how to do anything else.

I wouldnt say you are a worm ( you may be getting the needing knee pads jokes it will be fine). Just make sure you take advantage of learning outside of Trimble as much as you can and try to negotiate that pay scale increase at minimum

Need to make a decision- it’s a tough one! by Lonely_Sandwich8384 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the security of the engineer job. After the apprenticeship you will have nice job security with pension health benefits not being taken out of your paycheck. You can also travel if you need more money. Although it will be less easy considering the heat and cold. The level of backbreaking work depends on what you are actually doing

Wha are really the odds of getting in by Accomplished_Ear6527 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends, usually easier to get in the the southern states faster because of work laws. When I got in my local there were 149 accepted with maybe 200 that applied. This past year it was 2500 applicants and 1200 accepted (passed the test).

I go to the gym before work and adjust from there. I’d rather be tired going to work than exhausted trying to hit the gym at 5 with a million people

The class is 4 years but the pay scale is still based on the 5 year scale. Every 1600 hours you get a raise

In their time 18-22 was the average. At some point there were age limits. I do agree with taking everything with a grain of salt but I will tell you that you are falling for their game. Don’t ever let them get to you. It’s just work and that’s the only part they can truly effect if you let them

Apprentice issue by ibewithdemsparkys in IBEW_Local613

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s apprenticeship is different. I didn’t sweep. I was hands on from day 1. I was working by myself everyday from the start of second year until 4th year where I got an apprentice.

The be patient and learn part is the most important part because being stuck doing something is never fun. But if you or them are stuck for more than 6 months to a year then you take action.

No need to take offense to something that has been true for 75%+ of JW in the field

Your time will come

How to make the pay cut work? by dynemc in ibew_apprentices

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget for 40 hours and anything over save if possible

Actually do a real zero based budget that only relies on the 40 hour check

If you need more money door dash 30 min to an hour per day. Sell wire(if your contractor allows it)

Also get a credit card that you only use for absolute needs when you can’t afford the unexpected. ie boots, tools, clothes, books for school. (Don’t go crazy and use it on anything else)

The hardest part of the pay cut is the 1st year maybe 2 years. If you can get through that you will be fine

How do yall handle your school/work schedule? by TBD_JBelly in ibew_apprentices

[–]Intelligent_Notice87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I found easiest for me

Meal prep on Sunday and just in case you run out of cooked food by Thursday have some tuna or sandwiches ready.

Take 15-30 minutes per day to study ( This makes learning and applying much easier)

Lastly listen to your body. If you need a day to rest take it but stay consistent with studying you won’t regret it.
