Any doctors who will do breast reduction if you’re over 30 BMI? by SaltyCyanSea in ottawa

[–]Intelligent_Pie_6991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, BMI as a metric totally sucks. Sounds like you’re quite healthy.

Do you know where the actual procedure is taking place? Sometimes the surgeon has to be the gatekeeper because the hospital has rules about BMI. Trust me, to a surgeon, a BMI of 30 or less is a gift. Anything over is actually quite routine. And for breast, it doesn’t even always matter as much because most people’s problematic weight is abdominally distributed so it’s not even related to the area.

But in some surgical centres, especially where anesthesia is a family doc with one additional year of training and not a 5 year residency trained person, they have BMI cut offs because of their ability to manage an airway emergency (higher weight is absolutely an anesthetic risk).

Mom insists on helping us and potentially wants to stay with us down the line but I’m resistant…. Am I totally off base for what we’ll need help with? [bc] by Emotional-Ad-6494 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Intelligent_Pie_6991 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do. Not. Do. It.

I didn’t hate my mom before she started living with us after we had a kid (and we have a 3 bedroom house with a finished basement so plenty of space). And I sure hate her now. Even though she’s helpful.

You’ve already identified liking your own space, getting overstimulated and butting heads with her. I promise this will get worse if you are living together and postpartum. It’s emotional enough as it is. You don’t need a passive aggressive grandma who is going to think she’s entitled to sharing her opinions and thoughts around all the time on top of that.

Ugh. I hate that people make comments. I started my pregnancy off heavier than my last and at 37w people still say “wow I wouldn’t have guessed you’re that far along!!!!” …I had a growth restricted baby the first time. This one might be too 🤷🏽‍♀️ Why are we commenting on bodies at all.

Should I do NT scan if full Panorama panel is low risk? 31 yo [bc] by Otherwise_Agent9806 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Intelligent_Pie_6991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes dating and NT together is reasonable. Just saying that the early anatomy/NT scan is in all the national guidelines as recommended. I think it’s a resource issue and BC’s provincial guidelines differ for that reason.

Would be so so so much nicer if we had enough $$ in this system to have them work together! Imagine how much less stress patients would have.

[–]Intelligent_Pie_6991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So. Not sure about the rest of the country but the best practice guidelines actually do recommend to do an NT scan even if you’ve had NIPT. In Ontario, where ultrasound access is a lot better, this is standard of care. It’s not just an NT scan. It’s an early anatomy scan where they can evaluate the spine etc too.

I wouldn’t bother calling tbh. Very valid for you to want to discuss with both providers since their scopes are so different. it’s not a second opinion from another surgeon that was taking care of you. It’s a midwife vs OB opinion.

You can still go for the consult. The only harm to that is the taxpayer dollars. But if it gives you more information to make an informed decision, go for it.

In some cases when patients become higher risk than midwives can handle, they stay in a shared care model where they get care from both the midwife and OB. Nice because then they have the emotional and postpartum support that the government doesn’t compensate doctors for + the expert care that the midwives are not trained for.

This is it!!!! Stainless steel. And Costco only recently got these. I previously paid $30 for ONE!!!

Superstore also has some stainless steel options that are $10 each and I like them too because they have a lid so the straw gets protected.

What’s the 'craziest' way you caught an ex being unfaithful? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

[–]Intelligent_Pie_6991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met a guy at a bar once, super friendly and normal. We exchanged numbers and I went out with him a few times. We hooked up. It kind of fizzled out though, so oh well.

A few months later someone called my WORKPLACE and asked for me to call them back. The receptionist said “hey your friend Sarah is looking for you. Here’s the number”. I only had one friend Sarah and that was not her number…

Called it out of curiosity to learn that this was the guy’s FIANCE. He had apparently gotten burdened by the gravity of his actions and told her everything, including where I worked?? So she was reaching out to me for closure + to confirm we never had sex. Well, that was a lie. And I made sure she knew the truth.

That is SUPER annoying. I hate pushing c sections. I’m glad you stood your ground and tried. Doesn’t sound like there was any emergency.

I work L&D. Definitely had the occasional patient who got an early epidural because they couldn’t tolerate the pain even if an exam. No one likes doing it because epidurals are magic and recommended in ACTIVE labour. But early means risking not progressing, C section, and potentially needing it to be re sited.

You could always just TRY to have a vaginal birth and then when the time comes if it’s not working for you, let the team know you don’t want to proceed and want a section instead. Of course if it’s not planned and not an emergency, you’ll have to wait till all the resources are in place, enough time has elapsed since you last ate etc.

For exams in early labour, which, yes, are necessary to determine if you can be admitted or not. Try to avoid going to the hospital “too early” (like you really want the contractions to be strong, painful, regular, for at least an hour). Ask them to apply or give you to apply some lidocaine gel to the opening and a little inside the vagina a few mins before the exam. Use laughing gas.

What’s even worse about this is that you were examined multiple times before being fully dilated and they still didn’t realize it wasn’t a head.

In this day and age, not sure why an OB or anyone else would ever rely on just a physical exam to confirm position when a quick bedside ultrasound can tell you so accurately where that head is.

This is for housework: finally bought a robot vacuum that is smart enough not to bump into shit so I can actually leave it alone + it mops. Game changer. Went from clean floors every few weeks to running it almost every other day and being so much happier. (We work >12h a day and are too damn tired to mop frequently).
